Went the distance for me
21 February 2000
I'm a huge Bruce Willis fan ever since he made the Die Hard series. I knew right away I was going to enjoy "The Whole Nine Yards" because it really showcased Willis' versatility for every genre of film.

Other than Willis, I was delighted to see Michael Clarke Duncan and Amanda Peet perform exceedingly well. Duncan is a rising star in Hollywood and everyone should be taking notes to cast him in more parts. Peet stole Willis' thunder in this film because she really made me laugh. Her jokes were well timed and didn't make it seem like she had to become someone else to pull it off.

The only drawback I found with this film was the performance by Matthew Perry because I believe that anyone could have pulled it off better than him; he was just there because the casting director needed to fill screen space.

Pitch Black (2000)
3/10
how low can one movie sink
21 February 2000
This is the type of movie that makes me sick because nearly the whole movie was completely unsalvageable. The script was out of sequence, plot was confusing and it was a reminder of another awful movie called "Soldier."

The only thing to come out of this film was the performance of Riddick turned in by Vin Diesel who was in "Saving Private Ryan." I guess good performances in good movies follow certain actors around. Luck was on the side of Diesel in "Pitch Black". A dismal film that does not see me clapping for greatness.

Life (I) (1999)
not interesting, two hours of unfunny jokes
13 February 2000
I can't I wasted my time on this film. Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence wasted their time signing up to participate in this project.

The worst thing about the film is it didn't make me laugh at all. Usually Murphy and Lawrence shine at telling jokes; however, everybody is allowed to have an off film, for them it was "Life."

If I wanted to see a film that took place in prison I wouldn't see a dull comedy that really makes no sense in the big picture.

What more can I say about a boring film to someone who asks. The answer is stop yourself before you make a mistake. See another comedy instead of "Life."

The Mighty (1998)
A film that will warm the heart on a cold day
13 February 2000
Talent must have skipped a generation in the Culkin family because Kieran has more than MacCaulay.

As I was watching "The Mighty," I kept thinking that I was watching "Simon Birch" all over again. Since I enjoyed "Simon Birch" I knew I was going to like "The Mighty."

From start to finish, it had similar elements. For example, the mother figures in both films took the friend in and take care of him as well as the tight knit friendship they share in both films.

Elden Henson who played Max Kane was a good choice to play the friend of Culkin's character, Kevin Dillon. My reason for saying this is based upon how much each have in common including the fact that they seemed to click well together.

I can't forget to mention the superb supporting cast that included Sharon Stone, Gena Rowlands and Harry Dean Stanton. Stone pulled off a performance that could have been done in her sleep. Rowlands and Stanton provided support at just the right times to make this film worthwhile.

This film immediately brought a smile to my face because it told the story of two people who were isolated until one day they were brought together, which made a perfect fit.

Resurrection (1999)
A very interesting movie
12 February 2000
This is the type that is made for people who love to see blood and gore.

Similar to "Seven", this film takes place in Chicago as John Prudhomme is on the trail of a serial killer along with his partner, Andy Hollingsworth, who is killing men for their body parts.

I enjoyed the way that the story was told. For example, the killer is killing to resurrect the body of Christ, which I found very interesting because I have not seen it done in film before.

I am not a huge fan of Christopher Lambert; however, this film has proven that I should take a look at more of his movies because he can be a dramatic actor as well as an action star.

I'm glad I saw this movie

An overrated film
12 February 2000
I was really disappointed in this film because really slow in getting the point across.

After 30 minutes in the movie theater, I wanted to leave because it was told in such a one dimensional fashion.

I must have dozed off during the film and woke up at the end when the film was at the best point. There was more than plot going on in this film that really cost it from being a spectacular film. On one hand, we have Homer Wells the orphan who has not seen the world helping his fellow orphans as a doctor's assistant; on the other hand, we have Homer Wells who is viewing the world while having an affair with an engaged lady.

I really think if this film stuck with one plot who would have worked and I could have understood a lot more.

Tobey Maguire, Chalize Theron, Michael Caine ad Delroy Lindo couldn't have saved this film no matter how hard they tried. I blame the writer and the director for this failure to communicate to me what the point was and make it clear enough for me to understand the plot.

Black Dog (1998)
I loved this film from start to finish
12 February 2000
"Black Dog" is one of Patrick Swayze's best films to date, I must compliment as to how well Meat Loaf and Randy Travis pulled off two excellent performances. Meat Loaf and Randy Travis are newcomers to film by way of the music industry. Meat Loaf needs no training because he is a natural and Randy Travis fits right in like a perfect puzzle piece to each role he choose to take.

I enjoyed how the plot surrounded one set almost throughout the film, which were the trucks. The story revolved around one man trying to hijack his own load before it got to the final destination. Midway through the trip, he finds that he must save his family from a vindictive boss.

The action was non-stop, the dramatic effect that was thrown in was superb. With this combination, it made me sit down in my chair and watch this movie without getting up. A heart-pounding, suspense filled, unpredictable thrill ride makes "Black Dog" a must see film.
