21 (2008)
Don't fall for the flashy glam 21 tries to pull you in with.
winner, winner chicken dinner. what year are in??? 1912? are we on the titanic?
yeah, that wasn't the only reason I hated this movie. I wish kevin spacey wasn't in it... he probably just signed on to be around kate bosworth again. which I understand.
the climax of this movie was a joke, Laurence Fishburne's character could have been much darker and developed more, that would have improved it some... what waste of talent.
you know how people say, "i love the movie and the more I think about it the more i love it!" well that can work the other way too, and does for 21.
watch the cooler if your looking for a flashy, grit vegas story.
King Corn (2007)
King corn. Is King.
Wow~ I mean this movie was just amazing. def. one of my favorite docu pics of last year.
When I first heard about king corn I was convinced that it would basically be a typical look at how we, the American people, are over exposed and over weight from feeding on the "natural American diet" which is of course bad for you; much like that of what we saw in super size me. But that wasn't the case here. in short, king corn does a great job explaining the facts of the corn farming process, and the process by which corn itself ends up being part of our daily diets.
king corn has its typical docu moments though out, including interviews with politicians, and confessional citizens whose lives have been affected by obesity. However, its not over done here. Instead were given an exciting look at agriculture in the United States, and good story telling which does a great job delivering its message in a very original way.
Just Friends (2005)
Things just don't work out.
Probably would have been a more suiting title for this movie. 'Just friends' stars Ryan Reynolds as Chris Brander, a former geek in high school that's grown up with all the right connections in LA. Now obtaining a hot new socialite client, he returns back to his hometown attempting to regain his friendship with love lost Jamie, played by Amy smart. Its not long before Chris discovers that things haven't changed much in his absence, and beings to become the same person he tried to run away from 10 years prior.
Reynolds delivers his normal witty charmed performance, but falls short of delivering any hard laughs. Many of 'Just Friends' scenes have an obvious over-effort to them, almost duplicating the big laughs from comedies anywhere from 'There's Something About Mary' to 'Christmas Vacation.' Nothing new in this comedy. Definitely a step back for Reynolds. MT.
