The Mummy Returns (2001)
I didn't loathe it until I left it (minor spoiler included).
I went into this movie thinking I would only see it for the really cool action content, only to discover that there really wasn't any (none that was interesting for more than 10 seconds anyway). Damn near all of the acting is wretched, the plot is practically see-through, the lines are 100% trite, and the graphics are like that of a first-generation Tekken fighting game. Seriously, it was much better in the beginning when The Rock was acting rather than the ending when he's a cheesy, full-scale computer simulation. This is another in a series of movies in which Brendan Fraser tries to appear as the witty and likeable protagonist, but he's still downright annoying. Child-actor Freddie Boathe has about as much appeal as the red-headed kid next door who likes to torture insects. Weirdly, the only redemptive features of this movie are the two main mildly-interesting villains, played by Arnold Vosloo and Patricia Velazquez. In short, don't let the trailer fool you.
E.S.P. (1958)
It backfired in their faces.
This show appeared around the time that ESP had become rather popular. The idea was to get contestants who claimed to have ESP and challenge them to win prizes. Keep in mind that this was also around the time of the quiz show scandals. This show took every amountable precaution to ensure that no one would cheat. What they found was that no one actually had ESP!! It was a scam that backfired in the producers' faces. Most contestants were eliminated within the introductory rounds. As I understand it, the show itself only lasted through about 3 episodes. I doubt it was ever anything close to the shining star on Vincent Price's resume.
