Maestro (2023)
The Naughty Private Life of Leonard Bernstein
I know a much more apt title to this movie: The Naughty Private Life of Leonard Bernstein.
And so naughty! Presented by the Monty Python.
Old lady 1: Oooooo, he is so naughty!
Old lady 2: Yes, he kissed a man!
Leonard Bernstein: He-he-he, hi-hi.
Old lady 1: And now he consumes alcohol and drugs!
Old lady 2: Oh dear, he even smokes cigarettes!
L. B.: Ehhehee-hahaha, hehe.
Old lady 1: But who is this person anyway?
Old lady 2: I have no idea, but we were told he is famous for something.
L. B. (Waving enthusiastically as children imitate conducting when they are at home alone)
Applause, standing ovation.
Nominated for 7 Oscars.
Obviously.
Kipchoge: The Last Milestone (2021)
Annoying and dumb
Isn't it strange, that in the 21st century some people still praise 19th century style, egoistic and narcissistic "records". Which are completely pointless, serve the ego only, and do good for nobody. They even compare the 2 hour marathon to the landing on the Moon, which is just disrespectful.
The rest is a bunch of "everything is possible" cliches, so I can't wait to see when he"ll run the marathon in 1:50.
Ha ha ha.
Requiem for the Dead: American Spring 2014 (2015)
superficial
A burning, exciting topic in a completely superficial documentary, based on genuine footage from TV, police archives and social media only. Viewers have no chance to go deep into any of the stories when someone was shot again in the US. All we can see is a bunch of claptrap footage from the once-happy-past (yes, babies are so innocent and cute) and the predictable present: another innocent person was gunned down. And another one. And another one. Perhaps filmmakers are tired to explain over and over again how crazy is weapon regulation in the US - but come on men, if you are tired of the topic, don't shoot a movie about it. This is tabloid: melodramatic but totally empty.
Absentia (2011)
missing the point?
Reading these reviews I just have the feeling that most people missed the point in this movie. Indie horror? Alternative movie? Sure. Confusing story without any explanation? Not really. Missing people. Crimes. Stolen values. Nightmares. Lies. More lies. Broken families. Helpless people. Uneffective police. Crime or sickness?
Change your glasses and think it over: what do you know about drug addiction? What do you know about heroin for example? And now, watch this movie again. An original film with good acting and directing, chilling, scary and smart. Great job from writer-director Mike Flanagan. It definitely worths to watch it.
Kill List (2011)
disappointment
What a disappointment this movie was.
In this cockney-hard-to-understand British movie you buy one and get three genres: the first part looks like a Scandinavian family drama with a troublesome marriage. Then in the second part turns out, this is rather a crime movie about the new job of two hit men. Meanwhile we can feel that something is wrong and gets worse, so in the third part it transforms into a thriller, or according to some viewers, into a horror movie.
Honestly, I don't know, since the screenwriter just forgot about the context. We can wait forever in vain, to find out what was this all about, who was the client (the devil?), who is Fiona, why did they put those names in particular on the Kill List, and why the client insisted that these two guys had to do this particular job.
In spite of the good acting, the correct job of the director and the staff, the whole movie goes into dustbin because of the ending.
Making a mystery movie is a hard job. Asking questions but not giving any answers is just simply childish.
