Abgeschminkt! (1993)
Short but nice movie
Katja Riemann plays the cool woman that doesn´t need a man and her friend (Nina Kronjäger) adores the beautiful Gedeon Burkhard. Katja has to show Gedeon´s American friend (who she doesn´t like at first) the town while Gedeon has a date with Nina. But sex with the selfish Gedeon ends in disaster and Katja falls in love with Max (who plays the perfect American guy as Germans think Americans are - with chewing gum in the mouth and always a cheeky word on the lip). I think this movie tries to explain what love really means: not only beauty is decisive, most important is to understand your partner and to have fun together. For a German movie it is really good.
The Prophecy (1995)
Funny movie, isn´t it?
It´s really not a very scary film but it´s worth watching only because of a cool and sexy (and very funny) Christopher Walken. I don´t know what´s the final sense of the movie (maybe God is winning, evil´s losing??); but: forget the rest (particularly the ending) and concentrate on Christopher...
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)
Tom Cruise with blonde hair!
Don´t get me wrong, I think Tom never looked better than in this movie! Long blonde hair, blue veins, slender, aristocratic.
I always thought he was only one of those "beautiful" actors that are not famous for their talent but for their appearance. I didn´t like him until I watched this movie. I can´t tell you how fascinated I was as I saw "Lestat". I had to read every book of the "Chronik der Vampire" (in German for sure, my English is not that good) - "Vampire Chronicles". I really fell in love with Lestat (not with Tom Cruise!). I think it is much better to watch the film before you read the books because in most cases you are very disappointed if you know the book before you watch the film.
I´m very sad that it takes so much time until the books are released in German. I bought "Vittorio the Vampire" and "The Vampire Armand" but it doesn´t mean much fun to me to read a book while I´m working with the dictionary.
Close My Eyes (1991)
The ending is somehow sad but nevertheless perfect
The movie doesn´t start very interesting, the buildings and offices shown in the movie are very boring to me and I don´t think that the actors/actresses look extremely beautiful --- but the film itself is a real masterpiece. The relationship between the two protagonists could only end in a catastrophe, although some scenes want to make us believe the opposite. This movie shows us the real meaning of the so-called "falling in love": it means nothing but going crazy (but in a somehow lovely way) without thinking over the consequences. I like especially the scene in Richard´s flat when they give in to temptation. And when they sit on the floor and talk about public transport - that´s somehow really funny. In this scenes you can see how much sex means to men, it may change their whole personality and makes them vulnerable. I like the end of this movie very much. Especially Rickman´s words at the end (I can´t write them here because I have only seen the movie in German).
Far and Away (1992)
Nice movie with happy ending
I don´t have problems with the accent of Cruise and Kidman - for me they simply speak German... I like this film because the landscape is nice, the story is nice and the end is nice. You cannot always watch movies which are difficult to understand. Sometimes you need a little movie which makes you smile at the end. And "the poor Irish boy gets the rich Protestant girl" is always a good theme.
