Unfrosted (2024)
A Decent Try
After a few minutes I didn't think I'd watch the whole movie, but I had just enough curiosity to watch through. It seemed to me he was trying to make a Barbie genre movie. It didn't have the surprising charm that Barbie somehow managed to have. If you weren't alive during the early 60s, I think many of the jokes and gags would pass you by. I felt uncomfortable when fun was made of Walter Cronkite, and as well the mention of Gus Grissom and Apollo I. What I did enjoy best was the large cast of comedians and other actors. They must have had great fun making the film. But the film wasn't made for their benefit. It was made for ours, and I can't quute recommend it.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Great For Its Genre
I really loved this production. They didn't make the viewer wait too long before starting the unusual scenarios. All of the actors were convincing and not kitchy in any way. There were plenty of very creative camera shots sprinkled throughout the movie. The film score was appropriately tense. The CGI was very good. I like that the writer used the old film plot device of throwing people from different parts of American culture into one place together in a dangerous situation. The characters were each well developed. The plot scenarios were scary but unfortunately not out of the realm of possibility. Watched this movie more than once already.
Faraway Downs (2023)
Wacky Music for What Should Be a Saga
This series begins with an over narration by an Aboriginal girl. Sounds interesting and promising. Next thing you know you're watching sort of slapstick scored with awful wah wah wacky sound. It ruined the feeling of what I was hoping to be a big saga about Australia in the WWII era. The actors, Jackman and Kidman, over played it in a slapstick manner. I felt like I was watching Around the World in 80 Days. What a let down. I couldn't stomach it for more than twenty minutes. This is really too bad because it looked like the director had high production goals. No binge watching this series for me.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Well What Did You Expect?
I am amazed at all the bad reviews. Complaints about the dinosaurs not looking "real" enough? Um, this is a fantasy series. It was fun to gather characters from throughout the series. It was fun to see the repercussions of the dinosaurs roaming the entire planet in modern times. The first segments had an Indiana Jones feel to it, which was fun too. Complaints about the graphic novel style acting? What would you expect? It was a fun movie to watch even with elements of surprise years long gone. Just who is watching such a movie with standards in mind for non-fantasy films? Please get over yourselves.
Cosmos (2019)
So Bad It Was Entertaining
Sloooow. Lots of long close ups of thoughtful faces. Cheesy dialogue. The viewer keeps wondering when "it" is finally going to happen. Amazingly the
cinematography was decent. And the music score was befitting a much better film.
