Love and Monsters (2020)
Some people have forgotten how to have fun.
When I first saw the trailer for Love and Monsters I thought it looked like a fun movie but would probably fall short. I then read some reviews on here of people ripping into it but I always like to decide for myself.
After watching it I can honestly say "Some people have forgotten how to have fun".
We live in such a jaded world where some people cannot just sit back and enjoy a fun adventure movie anymore.
Is the movie cliche? Yes!
Is it predictable? Yes!
Do you see enough of the monsters? Yes actually (some people have said otherwise, I don't know what film they were watching)
But is the film fun? Yes it is!
Its not going to win any awards but the film takes you along on Joel's fun and sometimes tense journey with a pooch called Boy (as well as some other characters along the way).
Stop being so jaded people, learn to have some fun again. Watch Love and Monsters.
Hackers (1995)
So 90s it hurts. Hack the Cheese.
Even though I was the age and demographic this movie was aimed at when it was released, I've only just got around to watch it 25 years later.
Wow, full of far fetched and incorrect information, it covers itself in so much cheese and 90s "cred" it's wonderfully painful.
As a film, it's actually awful. From terrible writing, to hammy acting with a nonsensical plot it could be easily hated. However it has just enough character and charisma wrapped in lovely coat of 90s attitude that I can totally understand why this has become a cult classic.
Definitely NOT to be taken seriously in any way and as long as you know what you're getting yourself into, it can be a great fun 90s ride.
Hack the 90s. Give it a shot.
Tremors: Shrieker Island (2020)
Enjoyable.
I am a huge fan of the first 4 Tremors movies, 1 is an all time classic and 2 is one of the best sequels ever made. However when Stampede Entertainment didn't carry on with the franchise for number 5 the films lost a lot of charm and they were unable to capture what the first 4 had. Now number 5 was decentish and number was 6 was...... Well not great but number 7 for me was the best since number 4.
Now this new film definitely pulls influence from Jurassic Park and Predator in its settings and some scenes but overall it was an enjoyable film.
The film is held together by Michael Gross which is no surprise at all. The man is amazing as Burt and this film has 2 of Burts most bad ass moments ever in the entire series. (slow motion walk with explosions anyone?)
Now for the Spoiler Alert...... Please don't read any further if you don't want to know what happens at the end.
This is definitely the last Tremors film to feature Michael Gross, Burt goes out in a blaze of glory while still being a bad ass. We have spent 30 years watching this character through some great and not so great films but no one can take away the character that Michael Gross has given us over the years.
Thank you Burt for your service.
Housebound (2014)
Welcome to the house of fun.
Housebound is a dark, sombre toned black comedy with a few genuine chills thats goes from ghost story to murder mystery to psycho killer. Definitely a hidden gem and everyone involved deserved this to have been more well known. One of those films where it's best to go in blind and that way its much more fun.
Solid performances with some sharp writing in places, some people might find it slightly uneventful for the first 30 minutes, however if you do, stay with it as it's well worth the wait.
Especially the end pop.
