Fear Thy Neighbor (2014)
Great show that spoils itself.
One of the better true crime shows, this uses reenactments and sometimes actual footage, as well as interviews. The actors are usually very close matches to the real people, that's nice. Great gripping stories, but it's one of these shows that was on cable and shows "what's coming next" in the beginning, and a couple times during the episode. If you dont quickly fast forward it basically spoils the whole show and mystery. It will show you who did it and who's dead, very very frustrating when the show can be so gripping and engaging!
Just cut those parts out especially now when we are all streaming.
La Brea (2021)
Same formula, different stuff
I love series like this, there are many and I always have a good time watching. It's fun and entertaining, but when they use ZERO logic, I start losing interest fast....best example so far: They have no food what so ever, try to hunt and fail, only find mushrooms for everyone, okay cool. But then they kill sabertooth tigers, snakes, and other animals in self defense and just leave them there, why wouldn't you be taking that meat home so everyone can eat????
I can deal with plot holes and suspending disbelief, but blatant illogical actions immediately take me out of the show and story Lines.
Flashpoint (2008)
Wish it didn't end
I'm currently rewatching the entire series for probably the 10th time, it's literally in the top 3 best "cop shows" ever. In my opinion! Chicago PD and 911 are up there too, these 3 are the only TV shows that have me in tears by the end of some episodes and as a guy that just doesn't happen. Incredible action but it's all about the people. Human behavior and why people do what they do. Truly an incredible series!!
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
It's alright
This is one of those shows that I really enjoy watching, but at the same time it makes me crazy. Characters making the DUMBEST, most annoying choices and decisions ever. The only characters I really stand behind are Daniel and Victor. I'm so tired of shows where people know absolutely nothing about survival but we need to watch them somehow survive with nothing more than luck. Give us a show about competent people surviving for once.
I See You (2019)
Masterpiece of psychological horror
Is this a "ghost story" not at all, but people saying it's "not horror" are also wrong imo. Horror doesn't have to mean supernatural. This movie gave me anxiety in all the best ways. It's dark and creepy and the twists keep coming. I absolutely loved this!!
The Marksman (2021)
Not good.
I love Liam Neeson, but I can't get over such horrible decision making. Guy is supposed to be a marine, yet when he gets pulled over by a crooked cop and ends up subduing him, Neeson (former marine) leaves every one of his own weapons, along with the crooked cops weapons all behind at the scene, knowing he is being trailed by cartel memebers who are armed to the teeth.....sorry, I can't forgive such stupid actions.
Alaska Monsters (2014)
Viewers are not this stupid
Listen, I don't mind Mockumentary type films and shows, where its set up to look real, but everyone is an actor and we all knows it's not. The 2012 show "The River" is a perfect example. This show however pretends to be a legitimate documentary type reality show, but anyone older than 3 years old can plainly tell how everything in the show is staged, set up, and straight out faked, not even well for that matter. If I listed all the horribly faked parts of the show this review would be 8 pages long. But to sum it all up, every episode these guys see and hear these monsters, but not 1 time does any of their camera crew even catch a glimpse of them. The sounds the monsters make are clearly added in post production and don't sound even close to real.
Viewers and not this stupid! Other monster shows might be boring because nothing happens but at least they arnt lying to the viewers....
Mountain Monsters (2013)
Well, at least it's entertaining...
So it's quite apparent from the beginning, but gets more and more obviously fake as the episodes/seasons go on. The show is one big staged set up for literally every scene. This isn't up for debate, it's just the truth. HOWEVER these good Ole boys are so damn likeable and fun to watch I can put all the phoney scripted stuff to the side and just have a good time watching.
One other thing I love about this show and hate about basically every other paranormal investigation show, is these guys are all armed to the teeth walking through the woods at night. It feels good to see people taking their personal safety serious in the situation like they put themselves in.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Pretty good
I'm really enjoying this, I love fantasy and people with powers. My biggest issue with this show is I feel nothing is explained. Half the time I have zero clue who people are, where they are from and why they are doing what they are doing. Stuff happens and it is cool but we as viewers have no idea why it's happening.
Lucifer (2016)
DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!
This is my favorite show on television! It's absolutely incredible. I loved Supernatural and Grimm and shows like that but this one goes above and beyond them all. Truly amazing.
The Dead Files (2011)
Just call a Reiki Shaman, Big badass Medium and a Catholic Priest
The show is okay at best. I watch it just for something to watch. I find it hard to believe Amy actually has such accurate gifts and that her and Steve don't share any information even tho she literally quotes his findings word for word half the time. Getting over that one of the problems is all the RIDICULOUS faces Amy makes on her walk through. I cant tell if she is normally like that, or if it's just extreme over acting, but either way it gets cringy.
My biggest issue with the whole show is the ending. Every episode ends with Amy telling some usually White, middle american family from the suburbs all they have to do is call up a Big black medium, Native American Medicine Man, Reiki Shaman, Catholic Priest and a Demonologist......oh yeah, im sure they have those numbers in their rolodex. Lots of episodes in the credits say "the activity continues" so stupid lol. If you want to help these people maybe try actually helping.....
Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back (2018)
Great! But...
It's an awesome show and I enjoy watching, but the original Kitchen Nightmares was way better! I don't understand why they would change the formula that worked so well. It's basically the same show, but done in 24 hours, which basically just makes the whole thing seem rushed and it loses its original charm.
The Unsettling (2019)
Major plot holes bring down a great show
I really enjoyed this despite these plot hole issues, it's creepy and engaging and over all it was a fun time! But here's where the problems start.
#1 Becca finds Sarah's phone hidden under the moms bed and takes it. Then when the mom finds all the kids scheming to run away she demands all their cell phones for breaking the rules. Each kid gives her their phone, 4 in total. Meaning Becca still has Sarah's phone hidden, but then in the next episode they are all freaking out because they don't have a cell phone to call for help....??
#2 The ghost of Sarah is supposed to be protecting the kids yet she doesn't do anything to hurt the evil adults, only kills Silas who is an innocent kid himself.....it makes ZERO sense!
American Gods (2017)
Season 1 was 9/10 season 2 is 2/10
Season 1 was absolutely incredible, it's a solid 9 in my book and could have moved to a 10 with the next season, but unfortunately after firing Bryan Fuller the show pretty much went down the toilet. First they lost 2 of my favorite characters, the great Gillian Anderson as Media, and Kristin Chenoweth as Easter who had a ton of potential! But apparently they left because Fuller was let go, so we didn't get to see either of them again. Plus this season is just super boring....I'm on episode 5 and feel like nothing has happened, like at all, it's been a complete waste thus far. The last episode all of a sudden turned into some weird race war of gods that came out of the blue with zero provocation or context. I don't even understand what they were trying to accomplish with that or how it made any sense. Honestly it's hard to stay awake watching this season, and the 1st literally had me glued to the TV. Major disappointment.
Hereditary (2018)
Horror so good you feel it in your bones
This is hands down one of the best horror films I have ever seen. The whole movie made me uneasy, it builds tension and suspense on a level I haven't seen in any movie in years. "The Shinning" comes to mind when I think of really amazing horror, and this is up there with that, possibly past it. I have nothing but good things to say about Hereditary.
The A List (2018)
Easy to hate
I'm 15 minutes into the first episode and already hate half the characters. It reminds me of a very poor done knock off of a PLL type show.
Black Summer (2019)
I really wanted to love it.
The soundtrack, directing, camera work and ambiance all create a super suspenseful atmosphere, some scary moments and built tension well. But there is one HUGE problem with the whole series, every character is literally one of the dumbest humans alive. I can't relate to anyone and end up so frustrated I can't enjoy it. I actually yelled at the TV multiple times.
