In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Pretty good until the reveal
The majority of this movie is entertaining and pretty well executed, the first three quarters of it anyway. But then they get to the part where he figures out who the killer really is and what her motivation is for committing the murders and it just all falls apart. Basically their whole plan that they dream up in the future is, somebody wrote some books and it radicalized various people throughout time, and in 2024, one of those radicalized sets off a bomb. So to stop it they go back and kill people who have read the books. It's the equivalent of somehow gaining the ability to time-travel, and instead of going back and killing Hitler you go back and kill random Nazis. Dumb.

If you want every movie trope ever, this is for you.
First, the good. The CGI was very good, and that isn't even comparing it to the garbage Disney has released the past few years. That's all the good.
This movie is so, so bad. I had really high hopes going into it. 😩 It started out,I didn't really understand what was happening, not enough exposition. Straight into the action. You like tropes? This one's for you. Dinosaurs not from the era depicted? Check! Dinosaurs that never even existed? Check! Girl Boss? OH YEAH, check! How many T Rexes can you put into one movie? Watch this to find out. Oh, and the lame attack on the escape ship by the T-Rex just happened to orient the ship for takeoff. How convenient! Do you like quick sand? Literally every TV show, cartoon, and movie from my childhood contained the "stuck in quicksand" trope, AND THEY USED IT AS A GIRL-BOSS MOMENT IN THIS MOVIE! Oh and to top it all off, they escaped the planet EXACTLY as the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs stuck! WHAT TIMING!! Please, do not waste your time watching this movie!

Great, in spite of Tom Hanks
I just want to say right off that this movie was really great. But this critique is going to be about Tom Hanks. Hollywood, please, please, please stop putting Tom Hanks in movies. I can be sitting there enjoying a movie, totally into it, and then Tom Hanks appears on screen and I go, "well there's Tom Hanks". Totally rips me out of the movie. It doesn't matter what silly accent he speaks in or any numbers of prosthetics he wears. It's still Tom freaking Hanks, and it just ruins the experience for me. And so,I did give this movie a review of 8 stars. The other actors are solid and the movie was great, in spite of Tom Hanks.
Friday Night Lights: Jumping the Gun (2008)
It isn't the 1960s
This show is great, but it falls victim to the usual storylines of the early 2000s. This show did not take place in the 1960s. No one acts like this when they see a black guy date a white girl. I am so sick of this trope. It's all done to create division and it just pisses me off. I grew up in a small town in western Pennsylvania and I can attest there was zero racial tension. My best man at my wedding was black. It was all created afterwards for the millennials and gen-z, or whatever they call themselves to differentiate from everyone else. It's all BS, please stop buying into the division, no one wins.
Breaking Bad: Fly (2010)
Wow!
Holy crap! What a stupid episode from an otherwise great show . Almost quit watching after this one. One couldn't be blamed for assuming the writers had just run out of ideas. So, so bad!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Better than I expected
It's an okay movie. Major pluses are the amazing animation, and no breaking out in some stupid song every ten minutes. The biggest surprise for me was it's a newer Disney movie that isn't packed full of woke bull$#!t. I gave it an extra star just for that.
Cruella (2021)
It's okay if you forget about the 101 Dalmatians film
As a stand-alone film this would be pretty good, but in the 101 Dalmatians story line it doesn't make sense. One big (major!) thing that really sticks out to me, having just watched the film, is they made Anita Darling black, which she clearly isn't in 101 Dalmatians. So I guess she can just change her race on a whim. Another is the mid-credits scene where Roger and the race-fluid Anita Darling are gifted the Dalmatian pups Pongo and Perdita, whose own puppies Cruella will try to kill and turn into a fur coat in just a year or two, sooooo.... there's that.
Annie (1982)
Wonderful!
What a great movie! I loved it as a kid and now I love watching it with my kids! I was not aware that critics were so hard on this movie, but I guess so-called "experts" were just as stupid then as they are now.
