No One Will Save You (2023)
Simply the worst film I've ever watched.
Some great cinematography. It felt like an indie movie with a big budget that lost its way.
Brave to use minimal dialogue, but Kaitlyn Dever hadn't the strength to fulfil the role. Don't get me wrong she was OK, to be perfectly honest I'm not sure many would people would of pulled this off under this type of direction. There is a lot of wooden acting throughout.
A plot full of frustrating plot holes and just dumb luck that in many places it's just ridiculous
to watch. Overall as a short film it would have been forgivable. With a decent script it could have been something special. Sad really.
Good Omens (2019)
Season 2 Pratchett has gone and so has the magic.
Season 1 loved it and re-binge watched it prior to season 2. Season 1 worth a watch funny, quick whitted and an easy watch 10/10 worth a watch.
Season 2 on the other hand felt very rushed with little thought. It came across it was trying to please too many audiences and lost itself along the way. It left me confused about what I was watching. I couldn't work out if season 2 is for childen, family's or adults? In parts i watched acting skills on par with a children's television production, that was full of naivety, then the next minuet flipping the finger, swearing then delving deep into emotions, then finaly the most awkward kiss between two actors I've ever seen. For me it just didnt flow at all.
I didn't find myself kicking back having a laugh. Instead I watched a very love story that took 6 hours to explain itself. And it wasn't that funny.
I will save myself the effort and ditch season 3 if it materialises.
All I can say I'm very disappointed. There is a trend in movies and tv lately where they are trying to expand the audience and loose the original following. Stop people pleasing and get back to good storylines. Underneath it all there is a very good show. They've just got to find it again.
I've read in the comments that Terry Pratchet has gone and so has the magic. This is so true. Its The Watch all over again. Where the new audience is more important than the story itself.
Death to 2020 (2020)
Charlie Brookers "Wipe" for the American audience.
This is basically the end of year "Wipe" for the americans. I loved the Wipe series which was comedy satire in political versions and other guises aimed at the UK audience. Death to 2020 even includes Philomena Cunk under a different name of course, she was a regular charecter in the Wipe series.
Death to 2020 will appeal more to the american audience. It has bigger stars unlike wipe which for me kind of looses its charm. Like the later editions of Black Mirror it is very americanised with a hint of English humour. For me you can't appeas both markets so just make two versions for one Uk and one for America and it will be a home run.
As an old fan of of Charlie Brookers work I'd say for the UK it's sad we have lost his humour to the american audience as his english humour is extremly funny.
I would say for an American audience watch it you will probably really enjoy it. But from an English audience prospective give it a miss.
I think this will be the last time I see any of his new work as I keep feeling let down because he's extremely funny but not for the English audience anymore.
But fair play to Charlie Brooker as he's probably just following the money that Netflix offer and there is nothing wrong with that.
Utopia (2020)
Absolutely awful.
Utopia 2014 was an extremely good well thought out tale, with sound charecters and a solid plot.
What I don't understand is having great source material how it has been taken and sugar coated to become a sugar coated version with a Disney feel to it with lifeless performances and an empty plot.
I was hoping for this remake to be a very solid series. How wrong and very disappointed. Its a real shame.
Utopia (2013)
10/10
Loved the way its shot, soundtrack, characters, comedy, darkness and a great plot. Just a great watch. Shame there wasn't a 3rd series. If you haven't seen it, it is worth a watch.
Truth Seekers (2020)
Loved it cant wait for season 2!!!
No it's not Shaun of the dead or Hot fuzz or even Hamlet, but it is the old duo back together which always comes with good one liners, great visuals, paranormal activity what mor can you ask for. Although it's shot in 4k it has an old beauty about the visuals that most directors miss which is depth in vision, not just standard Eastenders or Holby shots which are just too flat like most films of late. There is good lighing and something in the shot to look at without distraction, love the cinematography. As always pays homage throughout with visual reffernces to close encounters with lighting, the shining a clockwork orange can be noticed and many more. I'm glad this has happened love the stuff these guys produce and it's been to long. Although you don't see much of Simon Pegg It's good to see Nick Frost as the lead with his style. This is not going to be for everyone, but Pegg and Frost have a great style for film. If you can appreciate them you will enjoy it. If not its still worth a look. Funny, quirky, character bonding it's all there. Just don't take it to seriously and enjoy. Its got my vote.
So Far: "Black Mirror Season 5" (2019)
Black mirror sold out to Disney.
Charlie Brooker what happened? Is Black mirror appealing to an audience of 12 year olds. I've been an avid viewer of black mirror from episode one, but I couldn't grasp where the magic has gone.
This really felt like a stepping stone for Miss Cyprus to get back into acting and no feel of the of the deep thought provoking episodes they lay before this.
I hope this isn't the beging of the end of Black mirror. But series 5 is lacking any passion or charm and any form of thought provoking episodes.
I do question if the name has been sold on as a cash cow and all that is left is an empty brand with no sole.
A sad day for black mirror. In total very disappointing.
