waste of my time

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this movie sucked.

I'm a Sandler fan, too, and not just The Wedding Singer. I enjoyed Billy Madison, The Waterboy, etc. I think the acting was fine, but the movie just couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Injecting comedy right after a main character gets roasted alive - not funny, but rather completely out of place. That's how the whole movie felt. Out of place. Either you're a comedy or a prison movie or a sports movie. Sure, you can combine those elements, but make sure it flows. It just felt so laborious. There may have been one laugh-out-loud moment, but it no way saved the movie from being a pile of dung.

Not too shabby

i have to admit, i was dying to see this movie! so when i ended up with passes for an advanced screening, i was definitely pumped. not just because of vin diesel and his bulging biceps, but because it looked like a big ball of fun. and for the most part, it was. the action sequences were really great. there were two times (that come to mind) when they were a little more than far-fetched, even for this extreme sports athlete, but that didn't take away from the film. the storyline was great, in my opinion. it kept me on the edge of my seat at times. and it almost always flowed. (the revealing of his secret agent status was a little premature and way too risky for even james bond.) overall, i really enjoyed this movie... if i had to pick one drawback, it would be the dialog. some of the lines were really cheesy. i had that deja vu feeling (you know, been there, heard that). and cliches out the window, but still a good time!!

Not that bad...
28 June 2002
I just watched this movie. I taped it after a free Showtime weekend. I didn't think it was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I actually liked it. The only part I wasn't crazy about was the ending, etc. but that's because I like a more reality-based movie. I can get into sci-fi/fantasy, but I prefer real endings. It's the main reason I don't like Stephen King movies/books. The ending to "Needful Things?" Ugh, puh-leeze.

Anyway, I haven't seen 2001: a Space Oddessey, so I don't have anything to base comparisons on. I think those who are really into the sci-fi thing won't enjoy this movie. Wait, not *think*, but *know*. But for those just looking for something to do, this is an enjoyable movie. I may be biased, though. I'm a big fan of the major players - Tim Robbins, Gary Sinise, and Jerry O'Connell. I knew about Sinise, but the other 2 guys were a pleasant surprise. And the line "Phil isn't here because he left 5 MINUTES AGO!!" or however it went, was hysterical.

I give it a 6 out of 10. (but hey, I also liked "The New Guy.")

i loved it!

boo to the naysayers. i loved this movie. i just saw it last night - practically had the whole theater to myself (it's an out-of-the-way bargain theater). i'm mad at myself for waiting so long to see it. i thought the story was great - and without giving away details, i wasn't sure it was really going to end the way that it did. i loved all of the characters - and can even identify judy greer's character (penny) with a friend of mine. that made the flick particularly enduring. i laughed, i cried, i left feeling wonderful. i love chick flicks, and this one gets 5 stars from me. *****

Cruel Intentions 2 (2000 Video)
what a waste of time
26 February 2001
This was by far the worst movie I've seen in a long, long time. The characters lacked chemistry. I didn't like hearing the same lines in this movie as the first one (the long island iced tea one, in particular). I really enjoyed the first CI, so I am really disappointed by this one. I can't express how awful it was. Wait, maybe I can. BAD BAD BAD!!!

Personally, I enjoyed the film. I don't care if it's not close to reality. I'm not a climber. I paid my $3 at the bargain theater to be entertained, and I was. It was not a waste of money. The only weird thing I'd have to say would be the obvious on-screen chemistry between Robin Tunney and Chris O'Donnell, who were playing brother and sister. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not going to win any awards, but it was fun.
