Merseybeat (2001)
"Life Isn't Always Uniform!"
Believable characters face the challenge of work alongside their everyday lives and the process of finding a balance between being a police officer on the beat and coping with a life outside of uniform runs as the main theme throughout this drama. Brilliant scripted storylines and great filming with a superb cast, including the wonderful Haydn Gwynne (as Superintendent Susan Blake), make Merseybeat one of the best cop dramas on the TV.
The Insider (1999)
Intelligent, filmic story based on real life!
At 2 hours and 40 mins I was hoping for more action from THE INSIDER, but in actual fact it didn't need it. The time passed fairly quickly with only the occasional lull in the story. Intelligently crafted and based on a real story, THE INSIDER is full of drama. Real drama! It's intelligent and imaginative camera work stands out. The scripts are great and the actors work well together.
Race Against Time (2000)
Great performances from all cast and a good script!
When I sat down to watch 'Race Against Time' the other day I was not really sure what I was going to get on screen. Even though I had read all the plot summaries, I was unsure of how it would all look and play out in front of me, but I was pleasantly surprised. Although not a big box-office number like 'The Matrix' it has similar qualities that better suit it for small screen. Featuring a concept that is not too hard to imagine ever happening, the film portrays the loving relationship between father and son and a romantic strand which plays out against the main action-packed storyline. There are great performances from all cast and a good script.
True Crime (1999)
Very moving and well done!
I watched this movie on DVD and I thought it was fab. One of my main reasons for watching was because my fave actress appeared in the credits. but I was happy to find that all the actors and actress in this line-up were fab! The storyline touches a nerve and brought tears to my eyes. It is well scripted and although the ending may be somewhat predictable, it's a great film! The DVD version also includes some interviews with the stars!!!
The Jackal (1997)
I loved the film
I thought that 'The Jackal' was quite a good film. The beginning may have been slightly slow, but I got into it and enjoyed the rest. I have not seen 'The Day of The Jackal' and cannot comment on whether it is a good remake or not, but I thought the film was well done and I liked the characters. My favourite moment was between Declan (Gere) and Valentina (Venora) at the house.... They worked so well together!
The Whistle-Blower (2001)
Why I like 'The Whistle-Blower'?
'The Whistle-Blower' is a thriller with mind-bending twists and an interesting plot. It is written by Patrick Harbinson (writer and producer of ER) and has shining performances from Amanda Burton, Neil Pearson and Bill Paterson as well as the rest of the cast. They are all fabulous! Skillfully scripted scenes combined with great acting keep the audience guessing throughout and the drama culminates in an unexpected ending.
I would give 'The Whistle-Blower' 9 out of 10.
