Dune: Part Two (2024)
Among the better sequels....but
The cinematography and direction is excellent. The special effects as amazing as part 1, The star cast does justice too. I felt the movie was slower than its predecessor and I was disappointed in that towards the end premise turned out to be holy war. The way the storyline took turn to religious-belief type war was disappointing. This is where the movie lost couple of stars for me.
The politics is interesting but nothing new and I was hoping for an avataresque storyline or better to ensure the wow factor. They way it's headed for the part 3 where the endgame would be the big war is a typical sci-fi ending, was a disappointing revelation.
Lift (2024)
Out and out Teens and Kids movie
Another heist movie with a different star cast. I guess the makers wanted to make the most of the heist-movie wave before it fizzled out.
Some really cool fight scenes and FX for those who love this kind of stuff.
For the cinema goers who expect to be blown Away if not the overall movie then atleast by some parts of it this may not be that entertainment keeping you glued to your seats but will surely see you through to the end if you are the type who has to watch it till climax.
But it sure is a fast movie which will
Appeal to the digital generation where attention spans are dropping at unbelievable pace.
Bholaa (2023)
Shocked by the output of the effort
A quick fix commercial movie. Once again this movie proves that the coordination of multiple talents when lacking can spoil a movie.
For now the movie banks on the fervour of the general action genre but lacks much in many departments. Ajay Devgn shows his acting brilliance in parts and the villain "Ashwathama" could be the bad guy talent the movies need. Tabus performance was under powered.
The dialogues just didn't come across as wow, leaving nothing to remember. Prod quality wise the fight sequences are crisp and some some funny
Those who want too watch any action movie, you will like most of it, if you are looking storyline and depth then is avoidable.
Uunchai (2022)
Could have been much better
The story is really nice. A ode to friendship. Good casting too. But each character did not get enough opportunity to play out. At some points I could feel the actors were not connecting with the situation.
Amitjis characters sick look - déjà vu.
Probably I went with too much expectation. Having watched many movies that have trekking / climbing - the Hollywood mountain location in movies looked more real.
In some bits the actors in the mountains didn't feel real.
Didnt hold me throughout.
Surely saw the Mercedes and puma infilm effort too. Sorry if I missed any other brand but I felt it could have been less conspicuous.
Raksha Bandhan (2022)
Why was this movie made and why did Akshay kumar agree
It's been a while that I watched a movie uma cinema hall and usually actors like Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan don't get their movies wrong. Like I said "usually".
The craft of the Indian entertainment drama was missing and the movie falls below the mediocre cinematic experience.
A subject like this one could make for a blockbuster with the right crew and cast. The team of rakshabandhan missed the opportunity.
The two stars are for the effort which give us a few minutes of entertainment in the whole movie.
Totally missable!
The Tender Bar (2021)
A decent movie to bide your time
Ben does not disappoint as I would have expected of him. Tye Sheridan is indeed an amazing find and I hope he matures well to be a star like Ben Affleck.
Since the movie is set in the 70s the creative design team had much to do and they have done a good job indeed. I liked the bar and the attire et all. Overall a watchable movie of a kids life driven by his uncles confidence in him and unfulfilled aspirations and his mothers deep desire to ensure that her son studies his way out of the life of dependancy & despair like hers.
Honestly the message could have been conveyed strongly and that would have had a deeper impact. Could have been better is what I feel.
Cry Macho (2021)
Why did Clint Eastwood make this movie?
Totally missable. Somewhat decent editing i'd say and a few locations have been nicely chosen but these you'd expect that of any good producer director. I have great respect for Clint Eastwood but this was unexpected.
Sardar Udham (2021)
Awards sweeping attempt
The enormity of the effort that would be required to recreate another era deserves all accolades.
Shoojit Sircar has delivered again I would say. And I hope there's more to come from him.
Vicky Kaushal now you hold your own place in Bollywood - I would like to see you succeed and explore your full potential. Keep the Josh High!
I appreciate the team that made this movie possible. Very few Bollywood movies impress me.
Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)
Disappointed
What could have been a blockbuster is a lesson in how every element of film making is critical to make a blockbuster and when things don't come together as 1 this is the outcome.
The movie simply lacked effort in many departments and a blockbuster became an wannabe.
Toofaan (2021)
Such brilliant talent Wasted
Paresh Rawal was good yes. But would have hit the right chords if he trained better for the marathi accent and pronunciation.
Farhan and his trainer get due credit and he tried no doubt. He tried bur couldn't get into the skin of the boxer who had to make a comeback.
Definitely could have been a much much better movie.
The Priest (2021)
Among the watchable Mamooty movies
The plot is interesting and the way the story progresses keeps you glued till about 75% of the movie. A few bits feel like a drag and some questions are left unanswered and left to the viewer to decide.
Good one to watch.
Abrahaminte Santhathikal (2018)
Stretch of imagination
If you are a die hard Mamooty fan only then you must watch this movie to knock it off your list.
There is nothing more to the movie, really. Disappointed.
3 Idiots (2009)
Awesome- Made it to my top 20 list
A movie becomes a total entertainer which you can watch again and again when all the parts work cohesively. And a meticulous actor like Amir khan also ensures that the movie is nothing short of the best.
A timeless classic this is going be the love of a few a generations just like Sholay.
It's a must watch once for every age group and maybe a repeat watch for the youngsters and middle aged.
Rancho, Farhan, Raju, Virus, the balaaatkaar speech, the lectures and hostel snippets and covering a very important issue of student suicide due to pressure brilliantly.
Khuda Haafiz (2020)
Unbelievable but this shows reviews can be rigged
The 3 stars are purely for the action sequence planning and decent enough execution and some random ad hoc shots of the newly invented country. Everything else was pathetic. Annu Kapoor was okayish so was the mishra gentleman.
This could have been such a cool movie given the interesting storyline but then getting the right mix to make a blockbuster doesn't always come to everyone. Feel sorry for VJ he should stay away from anything that needs emotions and stop overacting to get the impact.
Chemical Hearts (2020)
Cool Teenage Romance with a twist
So I would have given a 7 but then not everyone at home liked it or should I say understood the movie well.
I like the movie. Not like it's a kind of must watch right away but also not something you should miss if you would like a little rekindling of your teenage days.
It might feel slow and that's the pace of the movie - nice and easy. Letting it sink in. It has its serious moments nicely interspersed just as they are in our everyday lives. It isn't a fable. Its just so real and connects if you have been in love, lost and after the very very difficult phase of mourning that never seems to end you found love again only to realise the challenges it brings. I think the climax could have been and should have been different rather than the arty close. That cost a star too.
Both lead artists have acted well and if they choose wisely they are gonna be around long. He reminds me of Paul Walker.
Wo hu cang long (2000)
Do not miss - A Romantic action thriller
Li Mu Bai - the character will be etched in your mind for many years. The hidden romance between him and shu lien has a very different kind of charm and draws respect. The Storyline and the action sequences will have you asking for more.
Every character seems well planned and the movie is crisp and am absolute entertainer.
Wo hu cang long: Qing ming bao jian (2016)
Entertaining but not as good as the original
Unlike the original the love story here is bland and on the palate to be seen just as the movie begins. The storyline was pretty predictable and the team that joins silent wolf to save the sword with shu lien could have been casted better.
Michele Yeoh was good but the storyline left much to be desired for her to exploit her acting skills. The fight scene at the end with haides Dai was very good indeed and the one on the frozen lake will be remembered undoubtedly by many.
It's good to watch in your spare time and it will not bore you at all.
Just Mercy (2019)
It's not just about a legal battle - IT'S BIGGER
The movie did take me by a bit of a surprise. Jamie foxx as expected delivered but this gentleman Michael B Jordan was good. It does not have the fast paced one lawyer against the other type of battle but is a story well told in a manner a true story had to be told.
Fractured (2019)
Fractured in many aspects
I think it's just something an actor does for trying his acting skills and being visible I think. In every aspect it fell short of making this a complete movie experience. Avoidable. You won't have missed anything. The 3 stars are the effort put in by all.
Mission Mangal (2019)
A documentary aiming for cinematic glory
After having matched the movie I faily understand why the movie was made. But why would Akshay Kumar agree to this is something of a question mark. Vidya balan played well, the other actresses enjoyed what can be said as very little worthwhile footage.
Three Cheers to the original Mission Mars team. The movie could have done much better justice to everyone's efforts but it felt grossly incomplete as a movie.
Vidya, Some good graphics & Editing together managed to get a 3/10 score.
