Jaane Jaan (2023)
Jaideep Ahlawat you beauty!
This is one of the best crime thrillers I saw after a very long time from Indian cinema.
The story is shot in beautiful eastern Himalayan towns of Kalimpong and Darjeeling which brings out the mystery in itself. The casting is great specially Jaideep Ahlawat.
The dark tone suits the movie very much and the tone has been kept too a perfect level so that people don;t have to crank up the screen brightness.
The story is brialliantly written and the cinematography is awesomely done by Avik Mukhopadhayay.
You will always keep on finding what's next. The film keeps you engaged till the end.
And lastly, the movie would be loved by people who love Mathematics.
Tooth Pari: When Love Bites (2023)
One of a kind show on Vampires
You would have seen multiple adaptations on vampires but Tooth Pari: When Love Bites is a unique one.
The story is set in the city of joy, Kolkata where we get introduced to the characters of Tanya Miniktala, Shantanu Maheshwari and other important characters of the show. The show does a good work in character buliding and past story of the leads along with a budding love story. We have protagonists, anatagonits, middle men and cute bengali parents with the beautiful landscape of Kolkata playing a part. The cinematography and colour grading is top notch. The VFX could have been better but since its the first installment, they have considerably done a much better job.
I would love to see Netflix renewing this beautiful series cause I'm in love with the characters of Rumi, Doc Roy and Kartik Pal.
Do give it a watch if you like and want the fantasy genre to grow in India.
Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga (2023)
Must Watch for Thriller Lovers
This movie is a surprise for me. The story has been written in such a way that you are glued to the screen till the last scene.
Whatever you keep guessing, you'll be proven wrong. That's how clever the writing is.
Superb acting by Yami Gautam Dhar, Suny Kaushal and Sharad Kelkar and also all the supporting cast.
Loved the acting from the Bengali cast too.
Really want more awesome movies like this to be made in India.
Also a great job done on VFX and DI by Redchillies and DNEG.
As always Maddock Films brings one of the best stories. I still believe that a theatrical release would have been great but as we know currently which type of movies get success in theatres after the pandemic.
A Must Watch!
Junglemahal: The Awakening (2023)
One of the finest Horror movies made in India
The director takes you through a journey of events with a group of travellers stranded in the middle of nowhere near the eastern ghats of India in 1985. Zthe series of events follow a storyline of the travellers, the days they spend in an abandoned guest house and the aftermath.
The story is very well supported with the awesome cinematography and sound design. More than some of the jumpscares, the director has focussed on making you fell eeire through the music and the setpiece. Its more of an environmental horror.
These kinds of movies are very rarely made in India and I wish more and more movies are made in this genre.
Chhorii (2021)
One of the finest horror movie made in India with a Social Message
It is one of the best horror stories made in India. The sound design, cinematography were perfect that a horror movie needs. Everyone should watch this movie. It has a very special message in it. Yes we have developed from what we were few years back but still we can't deny that these kinds of ritual murders and female infanticide does happen.
Well done Nushrat!
Katla (2021)
Brilliant Sci-fi content from Iceland
Being an Indian, I have became a fan of Nordic, Icelandic movies and series. I was very excited from the trailer itself and the series definitely lived up to its expectation.
I would just request all the Sci-fi fans to give this series a chance.
Really waiting for season 2 now.
Sherni (2021)
Another Masterpiece from Amit Masurkar
A very realistic tale of the human - animal interaction in Modern India. Brilliant on storytelling, acting and cinematography with amazing sound effects and background scores. It is a much needed story for the whole world to see.
Brilliant acting specially by Vidya Balan, Vijay Raaz and the common people of Madhya Pradesh.
The best takeaway from this movie is 'Forest Friends'. A team like this we all should be proudly part of and save mother nature. :)
The Last Hour (2021)
A Unique Story purely crafted in India
This is a unique story based on a small town in the state of Sikkim in the lap of Mt. Kanchenjunga. A unique mix of casts from mainstream media as well as north eastern local talents. A story which will keep you hooked till the last episode and you will crave for more and wait for the second season to come. Its beautifully shot, kudos to the cinematographer. Also the genre is a mix of crime thriller, supernatural and time travel.
Lastly I would really love that producers in India should get in more and more of these unique projects. Awesome work from the whole team of The Last Hour.
Waiting eagerly for Season 2 now. :)
Welcome Home (2020)
An unexpected unique masterpiece
Loved this unique venture in Indian cinema. I started watching the movie with very less expectation as it with almost every Indian horror/thriller movie. But this went beyond expectation. The cinematography, the character building, the execution of story, acting everything is sheer class. I see many here who doesn't even has the taste for these kind of movies giving bad ratings. For them I can only say one thing that you all deserve those bogus saas-bahu content.
JL50 (2020)
Time Travel, Alternate Reality, A Gripping Story and awesome cinematography. The best take on Sci-Fi genre from India. Must watch.
JL 50 is a perfectly bingable show which can also be seen like a 2 & 1/2 hrs movie. The series touches on concept of time travel, quantum physics and alternate reality. The story is very gripping. I feel this is the best take on Sci-Fi genre from India till date. We must encourage more and more these kinds of shows from India. The cinematography is great. Just one point which I feel was lacking is good use of VFX.
Raat Akeli Hai (2020)
One Perfect Crime thriller from Bollywood after a long time
A very gripping story with a mood of Agatha Christie novels. The movie is a bit lengthy considering modern day movies but it grips you till the end. Great cast including the supporting characters. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte has done a great job as usual. Honey Trehan did an awesome directoral debut. We really want more movies like this to be made in bollywood.
Bulbbul (2020)
Brilliant Cinematography after Tumbadd
I would praise the movie for its story, artwork and the impact it has. Each and every frame is like a work of art which is so beautifully made. The story is engaging and aptly shows the beautiful bengali culture and the story of zamindars, their ondormohol, child marriage and many such things prevalent in Bengal during late 18th century. This types of films are rare. I really don't know why people gave low ratings for this masterpiece.
