I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Just watch it
It's really a fantastic movie, and even if you end up confused and frustrated, its a puzzle that's solvable if you pay attention. Best movie of the year.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Underrated
This is a film I feel gets unnecessary hate. I find it to be mostly hilarious. As a comedy it's pretty top tier. Yes it's messy but it's funny tho
Evil Dead (2013)
Gory as hell
I was unsure about this sequel/remake as soon as I heard of its more serious tone. The reason Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorite 80s movies is bc of its campiness and comedy. But this movie delivered a worthy addition to the franchise. The gore is nasty and completely uncensored, and I can safely say this is one of the most gory movies I've ever seen. This movie also feels very slickly produced. I didn't care about the characters, but I don't think that's really the point. The plot is also surprisingly smart, as a character is a recovering heroine addict and her seeing the Evil is excused as hallucination. Solid remake.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
We don't get many of these anymore
This is one of those visually spectacular movies that's just a lot of fun. It's a fun summer movie and that's all it's supposed to be. I've heard many complaints about its boring plot, but the movie's focus is on being fun and visually striking, which it inarguably is. People seem to not know how to just have fun with a movie anymore; it must have a complex story or it isn't good. I disagree and Valerian is my favorite sci-fi adventure of the summer.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
I hate romcoms...
But this was pretty good. I loved the stars and the laughs were plentiful. Keanu Reeves' unexpected appearance was absolutely welcome and hilarious. This is one of the only romcoms I've really liked and I can say it was a pleasure to watch.
The Lighthouse (2019)
A masterpiece of cinema
This movie is a masterpiece. There's almost nothing bad I can say about it. It has a good setting, amazing acting, incredible sound design, and an overall very disturbing atmosphere that really seals this as amazing. See this IN THEATERS.
Mama (2013)
Solid
This is yet another just "ok" horror flick. It is decently imaginative and creepy, and I was surprised at how dark it was for a PG-13 movie. The pros of this movie are it's dark tone, Mamas creature design, the creepy settings, and the acting. It's cons are how short it feels, lack of suspense, and the overall held back feeling of the plot.
The Final Girls (2015)
Coulda been better
I thoroughly enjoy this movie with its dumb plot and meta humor. But this movie has a couple of things that hold it back. It's PG13 rating is annoying. The gore shoulda been over the top. The humor was very rare. Decent though.
The Matrix (1999)
Yes
This is the best action movie ever made. It's dark, dull visuals are great, it's fight scenes are revolutionary, and the special effects still hold up. The plot is original and the characters are just badass. 10/10
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
A sequel that surpasses its predecessor
I would say I enjoy Judgement Day more than the first one. This is due to more action, incredible special effects, and the Terminator being the good guy. Both Terminators are completely badass in this movie, resulting in some entertaining fight scenes. My only complaints is that John Connor and his mother were both in their own way annoying at times, so that I didn't entirely like them. I found myself liking the T-1000s character more somehow. But besides a few plot holes, this was great.
The Terminator (1984)
A classic
This is a very enjoyable sci-fi, almost horror, movie. I love Schwarzenegger as the Terminator and Linda Hamilton is pretty good as well. The opening scene is great, and the movie has some great action and suspense. I enjoy the sequel more, but this is a great predecessor.
Jason X (2001)
It's a decent sequel
This is definitely one of the better Friday the 13th sequels. It's funny and has some great kills. If you are a fan of the series this is one to check out. I enjoyed its campiness and how it was a parody of a lot of horror movies.
Halloween (2018)
Hell yeah
It's goofy at times and not very scary, but it's the best Halloween sequel by a long shot. The kills are gory and brutal, and Michael is as sadistic as ever. I hated ever Halloween sequel and it's remakes, so I was ready for this movie.
Ju-on (2002)
The best Juon movie
The visuals are freaky, the storytelling is unique and this is definitely the best movie in this series. Worth a watch if Japanese horror is your thing. If your a new horror fan, this is not for you.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Original as hell
This is one of the best movies of the 21st century. Fun, inventive, and hilarious, this is what a comic book movie should be. One of my favorite movies right now and I implore anyone reading this to go watch it right now.
Hush (2016)
Definitely worth a watch
The first time I saw the cover of this movie while browsing the horror section, I thought it looked like a Friday the 13th rip-off. I wish I had read about it. Or watched a trailer. A couple months later a friend told me to watch it, and I did so, though apprehensive. I'm glad I did. This is one of the most suspenseful modern horror movies I've seen. The main character is deaf, which, if I had known when I saw it, would've made me a lot more enthusiastic. But watch this movie.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
Yes
This is what a horror comedy should be. Hilarious, grossly gory, and a good underlying theme as well. I was never bored and every scene made me laugh. A mix of Napoleon Dynamite and Evil Dead 2.
The Bye Bye Man (2017)
The worst horror movie
This movie ties with the Nun in my worst movies ever made list. Like the Nun, almost unwatchable, with too many cliches and stupid jump scares to count.
Evil Dead II (1987)
GROOVY!
This is movie is a blend of 80s campiness, slapstick, and fun gore that makes it, in my opinion, the best horror comedy to date. Fair warning: it's pretty gross and low budget, and I know people that hate this movie. If you are a fan of any other movies in this series, you'll think this one is amazing.
Army of Darkness (1992)
I don't understand the hate
Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorite movies from the 80s, so I naturally wanted to see what would happen to Ash after his transportation to medieval times. I am pleased to say that this movie caps off the Evil Dead trilogy in hilarious fashion, even if it leaves out the series trademark over the top gore to do so. I had no problems with it's tame ness- it still kept the weird slapstick I loved in its predecessor. I'm annoyed at people who like the Evil Dead 2 but claim to hate this movie. It contains the same humor and campy fun that drove that movie, but it feels more polished.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Scared by atmosphere
This movie scared me with what was said and it's setting. Without giving away too much, this is a movie about atmosphere and suggestive horror, rather than in-your-face jump scares and stupid character decisions. Definitely catch this while it's on Netflix.
Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Best Halloween Movie
If you watch any movie this Halloween, it should be Trick r Treat. It is a well crafted, well paced, and decently creepy horror flick that is very enjoyable. If your looking for a fun Halloween movie and don't mind a little bit of blood and gore, look no further than this movie.
Inception (2010)
Incredible
This is the rare film that I give a 10/10 with no doubt in my mind that it is completely deserved.
Everything about this movie is extremely well crafted, from its plot to its characters to its incredible effects and its great action sequences.
This is a movie everyone must see in their lifetime.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Exactly what I expected
The original Strangers wasn't an amazing movie, so I wasn't expecting much from this. It was how I expected. Not scary, stupid, and at times unbelievably ridiculous, I found myself either utterly bored or laughing at the characters stupidity. There were one or two well done sequences that I enjoyed, but I could not say they helped the movie, as they made its already confused tone even more confused. At least the first Strangers was a solid movie with a few good scares and realism. This is unrealistic and not scary in the least.
