The Courier (2020)
Catches the atmosphere perfectly
Netflix haven't bothered translating the Russian spoken in the movie to English for some unfortunate reason - pretty slack since that does detract.
Benedict Cumberbatch is as, per normal, absolutely amazing and the rest of the cast does an excellent job as well. As a Generation X brought up in Scandinavia I felt that the always present feeling of the Soviet threat was captured really well - it really was always there. Which makes this movie somewhat strangely current as well. Put yourself and your kids in front of the TV and get a really well paced and rather thrilling movie experience that most likely will stay with you for a good while.
Barrumbi Kids (2022)
A really wonderful series
Barrumbi Kids is a true joy to watch -- it has a sense of authenticity and energy to it which is so often missed in modern children's TV being produced in Australia.
The episodes are engaging and actually feature kids taking risks and having adventures together told from the kid's perspectives -- engaging with the environment around them. There is naturally the interaction between Australian Indigenous culture and white Australia but at no point does it feel preachy, rather just an authentic sharing of perspectives.
Tonally the show feels like the kind of kids aimed tales and programming of the 90s, when things weren't so sanitised, but all the while holding a fresh angle and aesthetics.
And it's all set to some beautiful scenery which makes you want to visit the Top End of Australia!
I really hope that there is a second series!
Recommend.
