The Sandman (2022)
Well I think it rocks
I love everything Gaiman and I think there's something to be said about the element of whimsy that is preserved in here. Depth and darkness but with magic and wonder.
I think people take themselves too seriously and have weird, misplaced expectations for their favorite stories. They don't allow room for more than their own imaginations and interpretations. I personally love Neil Gaiman for imagining Morpheus and I love the creators of this show for imagining The Sandman in this way.
So if you enjoy imagining, I say watch this adaptation. You'll probably have a great time if you let yourself.
Free Guy (2021)
It's like Life Size meets Truman Show meets Ready Player One
And I think that's pretty great. And I mean. Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer. Simply cannot go wrong.
I will mention that Ryan plays basically the same character he plays in everything but tbh I love that consistency from him. Never change bb.
The Great (2020)
Fun, but...
Why must this interpretation of Catherine be so insufferable? I find her so terribly obnoxious. Acting is great from everyone, including Elle. And perhaps we are meant to find her annoying. Maybe it's part of the satire of it all. But the show is not just a comedy, it has so many serious moments where we see Catherine try to make Russia great. And in those moments, she's a whiny, stubborn child. Again, maybe that's the point. But it nearly ruins the entire thing for me, personally.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Don't listen to the bad reviews...
... Unless maybe you've read the books and are really stuck to the original story. But most of the bad reviews are about the show vs books, which I don't think is fair to the show itself. Other reviews hate the matriarchy. So I suppose also avoid the show if you can't stand a pretend show about pretend women who have all the pretend powers. I personally haven't read the books and I LOVE this show. I'm a giant lover of all things fantasy and this is hitting all the right spots. Rosamund Pike is stunning in this role I'd never imagined for her. I really love the Aes Sedai and all the incredible world building. I'm glad I haven't read the books because otherwise maybe I wouldn't be enjoying this so much. I'm sure they're great, and I do love to read, I just never got to these. And I do know how it feels to have a book chewed up and spit out. But this show? The show is good. That's that.
PS Daniel Henney if ur reading this would you like to go out thursday night when i am free?
Birds of Paradise (2021)
Bro, what is the plot of this movie?
No idea. Everyone is ungodly attractive, though, so that's nice. 4/10 for aesthetics alone.
