Not bad. But needed work.
The film has miscast most of the roles, the acting is very wooden but that could be because of the awful dialogue. The dialogue in this film could be the worst I've ever seen. But overall the film ok.
A Little Late with Lilly Singh (2019)
So awkward.
This is a very unfunny person who comes across a defensive and angry.
You're supposed to make people feel good on a late night talk show.
This isn't a sexist thing this is a unfunny thing.
She's not funny and has no timing it's just so awkward.
It Follows (2014)
A dream
This is a great film. It feels like a dream and it's truly unsettling.
The acting in this film is very good, it was very casual but it worked great. The dialogue is really natural and so is the way it's shot.
It feels like it should be low budget and I believe the budget was moderate but the director was so aware of what needed to be shown and what didn't that he shaped the film perfectly.
Now yes there are parts that aren't great but that's normally the case with most films. But the parts in this film that are great are really great!
7500 (2019)
A little unsatisfying
Great little small location film.
Great natural acting too.
Tense and very disturbing at times.
But....
Very unsatisfying outcome. You really wanted JGL to do more at the end. Get a bit back!!
Then it rolls arrogant silence over the end credits.
Mary (2019)
A bit boring
This I was interested in as it had recent Oscar winner Gary Oldman and I'd never heard of it.
It looked like a b movie too. So I thought hey this could be a bit of fun.
But it wasn't, it was uninteresting.
The acting is fine, the dialogue is ok but the overall story telling is a bit boring.
I really don't understand why Garry Oldman is in this film, that's the biggest question I was left with. I just can't see why he's in this film.
Anyway it's not very good.
Bloodline (2018)
Cheap.
This looked cheap and the acting from Sean William Scott is awful. It's actually funny without meaning to be.
I read good reviews... so I thought this would be good. It really wasn't and it just had a very cheap feeling with the production.
I'm going to be honest... I didn't finish the film.
I couldn't... it just didn't grip me. I really wanted it to but it just didn't do it for me.
There's a couple of moments where you think it's going to really get going but it doesn't go anywhere.
I don't know maybe I missed something... like the ending.
Head Count (2018)
A little different
I didn't know what to expect when watching this which works in its favour. The acting is ok from some and the direction is ok to.
It's low budget but it's not obvious about it.
The story has elements that you've seen before but also a couple you haven't.
I'll watch any horror film good or bad and this one was not bad.
The Tax Collector (2020)
Terrible people killing each other.
This film is about drug dealers who kill people for not paying up. Then a bigger drug dealer turns up.
The problem is.
Drug dealers are criminals. They kill innocent people.
So why should we care about these ones?
The acting is so bad from the lead guy 'Soto' it's non existent.
Shia is good but wasted.
The thing about this film in general is it's poorly made. The editing, camera, and directing are low standard. This feels like a first time director but we know the director has mad massive films before that turned out ok.
Just a bit confusing as to how he made this film seam a bit amateur.
Anyway yeah it's not very good. And the characters all deserve to die.
What Keeps You Alive (2018)
Worth watching.
This was different in the sense that it sets its self up for one thing and delivers something else.
There's something here for horror fans and for fans of suspense. The two main actors were great.
It's well directed and shot.
Only hiccup is at the end. She makes a stupid decision to go back.
Otherwise it's pretty good.
The Rental (2020)
Goes all wrong
This started all right but went schlocky.
It sets up to be clever and different but ends up being the exact same as every other horror film.
The main problem, though decently acted the characters are just sooo unlikeable.
It really could of been a great film if they knew exactly what film they were making. Felt like two ideas neither particularly strong.
I appreciate the Cinematography, that was pretty good. It was low budget but they made this look decent.
Just needed a better production in the creative side of things.
Ready or Not (2019)
Better than expected
This is entertaining and it gets straight to the point. The acting is well adjusted to the style of the film.
The film never takes itself to seriously but when it does it works.
The main actress looked like Margot Robbie so I looked her up to see she is also an Australian actress like her. But she's the B movie version.
Anyway I think most horror fans will enjoy this. I tend to watch every horror film good or bad but as long as the acting is good I can keep watching. I thought the acting in this was well done for its overall tone.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Unexpected but unnecessary
The first film was ok and this film is ok.
It's hard to understand the way studios work. No one wanted this film, but we have it.
It picks up where the last one left off, for more of the same. If you like the first you'll like this one too.
Acting is good for the style of film but it doesn't have any memorable moments in it.
I didn't waste time watching it. So I guess that's good?
Project Power (2020)
Not bad. Not great.
There is a lot to like about this film. But only like.
Jamie Fox and Lovett are good. There's a fantastic fight scene in a house that involves fire.
The premise is good but a little 'what if ' and no 'but how'...
I feel like this could get a sequel but do we need it?
Worth a watch.
Inheritance (2020)
A bit miss directed.
The problem with this film is that it wants us to feel the anguish of the main character but she is extremely unlikable, cold and from a very rich family and upbringing. She hates her dad and still wants to protect him....???
Also the twist is obvious from the moment you hear what happened one fateful night.
Simon Peggs American accent is way over the top and is a little distracting. In fact the acting is a bit bad all round. Otherwise the film is ok, even thou it reminds of of an episode of inside no.9 ... but I have to say the Music and overall soundscape is totally wrong for this film and it's acting. It should of been hammy music to match the acting styles.
Game Over, Man! (2018)
Is what it is.
I thought it was funny.
It's a 'stonner' movie.
If you haven't seen their tv show workaholics then it might not work for you.
Silly, tune out.
Martyrs (2008)
So different
This is an incredible film. The way it sets up and then it grabs you by the neck and pulls you one way and the other.
It's acting is brilliant. It's direction is brilliant.
But this is a tough film to watch. But you should watch it.
Excellent.
Host (2020)
Slick
This was brilliantly done.
Good acting from everyone. They were natural and it felt real. There are cliched moments but they still worked. It's told from computer screen view like unfriended and searching so we've seen this perspective before.
It's a good scary film that takes advantage of the coronavirus so it's clever to take that approach because it becomes instantly relatable.
But the acting is what makes this work. Really good.
I See You (2019)
Flat
It thinks it's better then it is. There's a real sense of arrogance in the director's style here. The acting is mixed Hellen Hunt is good enough considering the poor dialogue. The rest are a bit bad thou. Could be Just be the dialogue though. The score was over the top too.
Bad Match (2017)
Recommend by Netflix. Bad match.
Yeah no it's pretty bad.
Amateur acting. Dialogue to match.
The Old Guard (2020)
Watch Highlander instead
Cons.
Direction is cringeworthy especially pop songs over action sequences reminds me of daredevil.
Some pretty poor acting from the young actress, very pedestrian.
Dialogue is the worst I've seen in many years, just awful.
Pros.
Concept is good even though it's basically Highlander ( due for a remake ).
It's on Netflix so you can turn it off if you don't like it .
The Hunt (2020)
Well directed and surprising
Well shot and directed. I liked that it played with expectations and was a bit different to what we normally get. It's a wacky film at times and primarily a comedy. Will become a cult hit on streaming and VOD.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Blackmail?
This is bad filmmaking. Jeff Wadlow is the writer and director of this film. Previously he did Truth or Dare and just wrote Bloodshot.
Who is he blackmailing to still be working? Seriously?
Bloodshot (2020)
Seen it before.
Why make this stuff? It looks expensive... it's generic. Just a waste of everyone's time. The only person who liked this film is Vin Diesel.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Great action, sound with no originality or direction.
After a opening with an unnecessary middle finger to the terminator and terminator 2.
It goes on auto pilot. Same story as before just a new name for skynet and new genders for John Conner and Reese characters.
Linda Hamilton looks cool but she knows this film is bad and isn't committing to it unfortunately.
MacKenzie Davis is fantastic even with the awful dialogue. She's plays tough but not invincible. Realist approach. Reminding me of Ripply and T2 Sarah Conner.
Unfortunately The action is like a cartoon and it's detaching.
The dialogue is so poor in this film ... and there's no storyline. Poor direction.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Poor direction and screenplay, leads are great!
I saw this it's was ok just pointless and nothing new. It actual felt a little behind the times in terms of production. A little early 2000s.
I thought the three leads were really good actually and were they only thing good about it. Could of done without the older lady hanging out with them like a 'cool mum'.
The main issue here is the screenplay, dialogue and direction.
All very pedestrian and poorly executed.
They should try again with the same three leads. But a different writer and director. Make it a bit more serious and gritty... just an idea.
