The Quarry (2022)
A worthy (full game) successor to Until Dawn.
I went into this expecting not to be half as satisfied as I was with Until Dawn but I was pleasantly surprised and actually feel it fixed a lot of the flaws of it's predecessor.
New things to look forward to:
-more variety in endings (allegedly 173)
-better QTE's that are more handicap accessible
-just as unique of a story
-inside jokes that acknowledge Until Dawn without relying solely on its reputation
-a nod to classic horror tropes that get turned on their head if the player is smart enough to know what you SHOULD NOT do in a horror film
-the women's faces look less cheeky/teethy
-can save all teens without turning one into a permanent creature (a la Josh)
-interesting collectibles (some of which are multi-part)
-a change to the prologue formula of killing off those characters immediately (this was common in the Dark Pictures Anthology too)
My main criticism is the ending... I would've liked to see more of an update on what happens after. The podcast was fine but perhaps seeing "(insert character) reconciled with (insert character) and are now dating". It would've made the dialogue choices I made for the characters seem important. Overall it's one of my favorite games of the year so far and I'm hoping there are plans to do another full-sized game like this that won't be another 7 years.
No Exit (2022)
A mostly loyal adaptation of one of my favorite books.
This is one of my first ever reviews but I felt that as a big fan of the book and Taylor Adams in general I should weigh in. Overall, I think fans of the books will be satisfied, but there are some overall quality issues. Ash, for example, is not developed as well as he should be as he was a highly compelling villain in the book. Jay is arguably wasted as she plays a major role in the final showdown in the book. With that being said, I actually enjoyed movie Darby more than book Darby. I felt giving her a backstory in drug addiction made her a more compelling character. There are some issues I have with the dialogue but the book also had some... interesting... dialogue. I'd recommend this for those who read the book and those who enjoy mysteries. It isn't perfect, but it's a fun movie for those who enjoy a little suspense.
