Ray (I) (2004)
3/10
Most Overrated Movie of the Year!
28 July 2006
I don't understand why so many people like this movie. It's like when someone tells you their favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird and you know they haven't read any books since high school. This movie is formulaic, uninspired, and just plain bad. The performances are terrible and the drug portrayals are unbelievable. I was annoyed basically from the beginning of this movie to the end. The flash backs that portray Ray's youth are supposed to be touching, but simply are sad attempts at audience emotional manipulation. Apparently they worked for I know a lot of people who said they liked this dud, including my mom who likes any movie where someone overcomes some sort of diversity. The success of this movie is depressing when there are so many better movies that go totally unnoticed.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000–2024)
10/10
Funny, smart, perfect
28 July 2006
You know how you still quote and remember episodes of Seinfeld ten years later? This is that kind of show - I can think of so many hilarious episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm that I can't help sitting here smiling to myself. The one where Larry accidentally gets Jeff's 7 year old daughter drunk on wine, the episode where Larry won't take off his shoes at the porn party, or when he accidentally gets an erotic massage. This is one of the very few non-animated shows that makes me laugh out loud. Larry David is so neurotic but normal at the same time and Jeff's wife is such a funny secondary character. If you haven't watched this show, you're missing one of the few smart comedies on TV - get it on DVD and watch it from the beginning like a marathon.

Project Runway (2004– )

Addicting & entertaining!

I just ordered the first season on Netflix and I'm totally addicted. This show is fun and interesting. Somehow the producers got this just right. The challenges are different and well thought out, the designers are creative, and the judges are professional and give constructive and intelligent criticism. The show is not annoying and clumsy like Top Model, but actually is well executed. I like Heidi Klum as the host, she doesn't need to be the center of attention like Tyra seems to have to be. Instead Heidi moves things along nicely and is likable without coming across as a diva. The contestants are fantastic and talented, frantic and chaotic. The show is segmented well, without dwelling too much on any one area. I love it - I recommend getting it on DVD and watching it like a marathon.
