Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
An interesting adaptation
I'll be honest. I was ready to thrash this movie through hell, back and through hell again. Because for me there is only one Forrest Gump and this felt like a shameless copycat.
But then I have decided to give this movie a chance and watch it. And it wasn't as bad as I thought it will be, as it must be.
It is a copy of Forrest Gump from the start to the end with changes to fit the location, traditions and locations where the movie is taking place. So in terms of originality it's average.
But it still a nice story about a simple man that is somehow going smoothly through his life and all of its ups and downs and all the important historical events of his country. So as I mentioned before it is a Forrest Gump copy.
But that's where some problems start. Forrest Gump was a man of low inteligence but Laal Singh is downright dumb to the point where it feels annoying. Also Indian songs that are part of movies from this country are for non Indian viewer boring.
So for me it's a solid average. It's not great but not bad either. And despite all of that...it is worth to watch this movie at least once.
Mr Inbetween (2018)
No heroes here, just Ray
I don't give 10/10 because I don't believe in perfection. But this is the exception.
Ray is a normal looking guy. But looks may be deceiving. That's all I'll say about him.
As for the series itself. It is great. Though it may be short, but it is quality over quantity. Stories are a combination of single story for an episode but also long running stories around the main character. Run time is between 20-30 minutes but even in this short time the episode's story is concluded and for the long run story... it's like a jigsaw. Another piece is added to the picture.
It has been a while since I enjoyed watching something and this was definitely worth every second. It's funny, scary, action, drama and so on. All perfectly stitched together.
Oh and by the way, it has one of the best open endings.
Ahsoka (2023)
Not really working for me
I don't know. Maybe after all the letdowns I just lost the taste for Star Wars. I enjoyed the Rebels and first two seasons of The Mandalorian. And now? Nothing. Book of Boba Fett was boring. Andor was so forgettable. And now Ahsoka. Five episodes in and... nothing. I am not saying that it's bad. But in case of the Rebels and the Mandalorian I couldn't wait to watch episode. I am watching Ahsoka just to see if the story finally gets anywhere and that's rather poor motivation. I don't blame the cast. I blame poor writing. I hope that first season ends with some sort of conclusion and not a cliffhanger because I don't think I would want to watch a second season.
One Piece (2023)
I was wrong
I always believed that when I make a mistake, the best way to approach it, is to admit that I made a mistake.
And I am doing so now.
I have a marginal knowledge of the anime. Saw some episodes, know some of the characters and generally I liked it. I have no knowledge of the manga series except for knowing that it exists.
But when the announcement of the live adaptation came, with Netflix behind it, I was doubtful to say the least. Trailer didn't really peaked my interest, cast was unknown to me and to be honest Netflix doesn't have the greatest track record (Witcher, Cowboy Bebop...).
But I thought to my self "Alright, let's give this a chance." and with still rather low expectations I watched the first episode... and then second and so on.
And I have enjoyed it! I must say that I have genuinely enjoyed this show's first season. There were few things that didn't really fit me, namely the CGI was "limping" a bit sometimes.
Pace is fast, jokes are, characters almost fit their anime counterparts (as best as possible), environments, backstories... A fresh wind in my old sails.
So once more I admit my mistake for having so low expectations, because this is really great.
And I am looking forward to second season.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
I was hoping for... Something more
It is better then most of the today's sci-fi shows, but honestly this has lots even tons of wasted potential to be a great show.
But instead we got this. Story that lacks some sort of sensible cohesion. Characters that are bland, boring, lost and so on.
Except for few moments this show is more of a mess rather than story of one of the characters whose name is used to name this whole thing.
So it is... watchable, but it could have been much more rather then something that leaves you with a "meh" feeling.
Truth be told, 6/10 maybe bit high rating but to me it's little better then average but that's about it. I would have hoped for maybe one more season but due the state of SW movies and series... I rather don't want to see more of this.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
I am bored
Honestly? It's just not working for me. I am not much into anime, but I've enjoyed the original Cowboy Bebop. But in this case... I am simply bored. It's not cast or their performances. All is fine there. But overall pace of episodes feels so slow that I could use it instead of sleaping pills. I can't even finish the third episode.
Sorry Cowboy, but this bounty is a bust.
Under sandet (2015)
A different War story
A different story then all other war movies.
It is not about action scenes but it sure is about heroism. Heroism of few young men, boys actually. And also about finding a lost humanity. Humanity that was lost in fires of WW2.
I must say that I enjoyed this movie.
Batwoman (2019)
BatWhat? BatWhy?
Why... just why?
It's boring, stupid, plain, empty and million more things.
I have only one advice. Do not waste your time with this.
Just don't.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Better then Discovery but...
So... I have finally finished watching the first season.
It wasn't bad. But I can't really say that I have enjoyed it too.
It was easier to watch this rather then Discovery. But it had major holes in the story lines and killing off several known characters didn't really help.
I can now only hope, that second season will be better, because the first didn't really used it's potential. Quite a swing and miss I'd say. But honestly? After seeing the final episode, let's just say I have severe doubts about it.
And to add insult to the injury, I still think that The Orville is doing far better job of "being the Star Trek" then Discovery and Picard together.
But fine fine. I am not giving up on this... yet.
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
It is anything but DOOM
Ok honestly the 2005 Doom with Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban was average for me at best, with the FPS scene being the only thing saving it.
But this?
Nothing. NOTHING! Nothing can save this mess of a movie.
It is horrible from first second to the last credit. And that is said mildly said.
So no. Run from it, avoid it, get away! Just don't watch it!
The Pink Panther (2006)
No... simply no
The original Pink Panther was, sorry, is funny.
This is anything but that.
I'd rather call it... awkward.
Star Wars Forces of Destiny (2017)
Just when I thought the Resistance was bad...
After the Clone Wars and Rebels I watched, or rather tried to watch, the Resistance. And that was mildly said bad. And then I ran across this. My first thought? WHAT THE F...? Sorry for being blunt and rude, but I am saying it honestly. This is... it is... I can't really even describe this. It's simply waste of time.
So another ruined cartoon and more dirt on Star Wars universe. Bravo Disney. If your plan is to ruin the Star Wars then you are doing first class job.
I am starting to worry about the new Clone Wars season. I hope I am wrong, but with all of this? I got a bad feeling about this.
Star Wars Resistance (2018)
Star Wars: Resistance got me Star Bored
So... no. This is boring. Beyond boring. Visually ugly, in terms of characters empty and as for story... is there even any story at all? Honestly I've had hard time to watch the first episode. Compared to Rebels, where each character had it's own backstory, had it's fare share of problems but still were able to overcome them and become lot more, than what they were.
Here? Nothing, nothing and nothing.
So to use a slightly changed phrase from another well known sci-fi universe: This Resistance is futile!
Taxi (2004)
Trash
Simply trash. Compared to it's original French counterpart, this movie has nothing. Jokes are cheap, cast is not interesting and whole movie is boring. Want to see a good comedy? See the original. Want to get an ulcer? Watch this.
