Acapulco (2021)
Refreshing, heartwarming, and FUNNY!
Absolutely charming; I love this show!
Give it a few episodes...
The overall format of storytelling reminds me of 'The Princess Bride meets The Wonder Years meets How I Met Your Mother'.
But the story? Delightful, enchanting, funny, nostalgic, and relatable.
Well, except for ending up an incredibly rich main character...LOL...I can't relate to that.
The dialogue is witty, the actors are fantastic, and the sets & scenery are bright and bubbly. I often cackle out loud at the quiet zingers in the script! The actors deliver with a sweet sincerity that draws you in. Give this show a chance; I can't wait for season three!
Welcome to Flatch (2022)
Stick With It...
I wanted to like this show.
Episode 1 did little to impress me, but by episode 3, I'm charmed by the characters and looking forward to the next one.
By episode 6, I'm literally laughing out loud.
Give it a chance, don't compare it to anything, and be pleasantly surprised & delighted!
Perry Mason (2020)
Not my usual fare, but WOW!
To preface, my usual Saturday morning fare is a few episodes of Murder She Wrote, Matlock, then on to whatever Hallmark Movies & Mysteries has playing...if it's an 80's Perry Mason movie, I'm set!
So this is not my usual comfort viewing, but the intrigue of a Perry Mason character lured me in.
I am SO glad I ignored the reviews, this is a great story!
Sure, it's darker than Raymond Burr, but much more colorful, too. The depth of characters, the acting, the sets, the timing, the stories...I'm hooked.
For the purists who say nothing resembles the Perry Mason we grew up watching...you're right. But who of us are the same people at 50 that we were in our 20's, 30's?? This has every nuance of the time it's set in...a true 30's crime drama feel, and it holds your interest!
Give it a chance, don't compare it to the Perry Mason we grew up with, but keep him in mind and you can see how this Perry's experiences could shape the cool, collected, classy characters we know and love.
Enola Holmes (2020)
A fun, intelligent, empowering mystery for younger viewers!
I'm a huge fan of Sherlock, mysteries, and an intriguing storyline...take this flick for what it is.
Aimed at younger viewers, this isn't historically accurate, but a fun, action-filled mystery nonetheless.
The Holmes connection establishes some expectation, but not much else. For me, that IS OKAY. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did, but I watched with fresh eyes and no expectation of storyline, so I was pleasantly surprised with the heroine and her familial relations.
The acting and scenery was excellent.
The story was empowering, but not with a heavy handed political message. Just be true to yourself, use your mind, and do the right thing.
I found it enjoyable for the family!
Prodigal Son (2019)
The best broadcast tv show since The Blacklist
I'm not devoted to crime dramas, but I was intrigued by the premise. Prodigal Son does not disappoint!
You can draw comparisons to characters from previous novels/tv shows; but WHY?
I've read or watched so many that came before, but give this a chance as a story of its own.
The storyline is dark, but the familial absurdity lightens the show with almost comedic wit.
This show has a cast of proven actors who play their characters well. Try to refrain from any comparisons and preconceived notions and enjoy this show for what it is.
What Just Happened??! (2019)
Caught this by accident...
Watching tv at midnight and caught this. I had recently read the synopsis, was slightly intrigued, so I decided to invest a few minutes of my time. WORTH IT!
I LOVE satire (Christopher Guest, etc) and this did not disappoint. Fred Savage nails it as the host of the after-show of a fictional show. His enthusiasm and interview skills (or lack thereof) are so cheeky! The celebrity guests are great, too.He really hits the mark for the audience of The Flare and the ACTUAL show. I hope there are other viewers who appreciate the wit and parody of this show.
