One of the Greatest of all time
8 January 2007
I just watched Blues Brothers for the 10th(at least) time, and still laughed till I cried. Bulushi and Akroyd transfer their talents from S.N.L. and don't miss a beat. The cast has so many stars from film as well as music, it's hard to name them all, lest you miss some. The greats include the late James Brown, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, and the film credits of Carrie Fisher, Twiggy, John Candy, and a quick shot of a very young Steven Spielberg are just a few. Don't miss a minute of this classic. as they destroy at least 30 1974 Dodges, and don't forget Henry Gibson's Nazimobile. I haven't done this film justice, for every star I mentioned, I forget two others.

Sci Fi then, is it reality now?
4 January 2007
I agree with my other science fiction buddies, this is a very good movie. The story is very believable, but the acting needed tweaked just a little bit. The process in which they hunt for the little bugger is interesting, and probably true to form, at least it looks like they know what their doing. All the while, you can't keep from asking yourself "What are they gonna do if this thing gets loose"? When the old crow first went into duh mode, you knew bad things were gonna happen. While the movie is over 40 years old, and it shows in the cars and aircraft they use, it is still a movie you have to pause to go potty, cause you don't want to miss a minute. In fact, enjoy the old mans attitude, the snips between P.H.D.'s, the secrecy of Wildfire, and don't forget, N.A.S.A. just brought back a probe that did this very thing.

Horrible
2 December 2006
I think this was a total waste of time and effort. The movie was sooooo bad, I turned it off. Thank Heaven I only paid $0.25 to rent it. The best part was the first five minutes (when the comet struck). The plot was weak, acting was bad, and my favorite character was also the dog. I really can't think of anything else to say about this sad piece of junk, except if you don;t have a beach, library, do the dishes, go to the dentist, rake leaves, dust the house, do anything but watch this movie. Hopefully I've taken up the required ten lines, because i feel obligated to tell my fellow movie watchers to please find something else to do instead of watching this junk.

Not a Star Wars, but still pretty good
11 October 2006
I just finished watching DTESS for probably the 10th time, and I'll watch it again in a year or two. I agree that Klattu was cast as a "spacely Christ" (delivers a message to mankind, shape up or your outa here, Chased by the military (Romans), Killed, and then brought back to life),even his name (Carpenter). The story behind 7' 7" Lock Martin was interesting too. The special effects are 1951, the whole bit about the cold war, it is truly a great movie to watch. If you expect Aunt Bea to call out "Andy", or realize the Sam Jaffe does kinda look like Einstein, then you are doomed to watch it again, and again, like I have. Enjoy

Better than the first one
6 October 2006
I just finished reading some of the comments left for 2010, and would like to add my two cents. There are "technical flaws" in the movie, but lets not forget the reason it was made, to entertain. A considerable amount of research was done before they began filming. They got the names of the moons right, and if Jupiter were say 20 times more massive, it might have become another star, but this would certainly have changed the configuration of our solar system. The "aero-braking" scene was interesting, another thing that would hold true, the comment about the astronauts exposure to radiation. Jupiter is beautiful through even a small telescope, but a very nasty place to visit. The rotation time of the planet, Great Red Spot, even the small ring system (Not visible from Earth) are all evidence that the producer knew what he was talking about. Roy was very good as Dr. Floyd, but then he was great in Jaws also. The "Cold War" even 400 million miles from Earth was a nice touch. It's true that the pens would not have floated, and I question the dust of Io covering Discovery. Dave's appearances added a connection to 2001, that were well conceived. Now the big question: If the aliens had put the monolith on Earth to change apes into club-wielding men, and the monolith in Tycho Crater (which isn't near the Sea of Tranquility) as say a time line to let them know how far we had progressed, why didn't they want us to land and have coffee? And what was the scornfulness of 1-3-9? To prove to them we had learned to count? In closing 2010 was a great movie, I only wished they had made a third movie.
