Firefly Lane (2021)
Amazing friendship, but horrendous daughter!
It would have been a 10/10 for me if Mayah didn't ruin it.
This show brought tears to my eyes! Happy ones and sad. Their decades long friendship is something all of us should strive to have, as it is truly rare. And all I could think about when watching this was my Best friend Cristina and how devastated I would be if she died.
While I really enjoyed all the performances by the leads and Johnny, there is one character that ruined the show for me! The girl that plays the daughter Marah is a horrible actress. And the character is truly awful and has zero redeeming qualities!
She shows zero emotion and when she does it looks fake and insincere. During the last 3 episodes of the second season in particular she was really rude to her Mom and says something that was just unforgivable and it was all about something as ridiculous as cookies. And she never apologizes for it!
And of course the show throws in the unnecessary storyline of making Marah gay, even though that wasn't in the book. Sometimes I think these storylines are just added for the sake of adding it, even though it brings zero value to the story.
My favorite parts:
1. Watching Kate & Tully's friendship evolve over the years
2. The amazing relationship between Kate and Johnny.
Side Effects (2013)
Should have went with a different lead
Overall, I enjoyed the plot and how everything came out by the end of the film. I also found the ending to be satisfying. I enjoyed Law's depiction as the Psychiatrist.
My biggest complaint was having Rooney Mara as the lead. She has ZERO emotion in her face, even when she isn't acting the role of "depressed wife". I am not really a fan of this actress in general, but she was about as interesting as a rock in this movie.
She did not make me feel any sort of connection or emotion to her character. I think this would have been a stronger movie if they had casted someone else. That's why this movie scores a "6" in my book.
River Wild (2023)
I enjoyed until the last 15 min or so
This movie was a good suspense/adventure movie and I enjoyed seeing Adam Brody as a bad guy. Also the rest of the cast actually did a great job and I was on the edge of my seat.
SPOILERS ARE COMING NOW ...
But what made me sooooo Angry was towards the end. The 2 men were fighting and trying to get a hold of the gun. Brody was the bad guy and the other guy was trying to save the group (including his sister). The sister (Meester) gets free but instead of trying to HELP her brother, she and the other hostage run away from the scene and her brother ends up getting shot. I would NEVER have left my brother behind, I would have tried to fight back. That ruined the movie for me.
So what was easily an 7/10 turned into a 5 for me!
Still Missing Morgan (2023)
No Closure!!
It is a heartbreaking and captivating documentary. It has to be a parent's worst nightmare. I know it would be mine!
And while the documentary itself is very thorough and goes through the various steps of the investigation ... SPOILER ALERT there is No Closure!! The main suspect in the case died in prison and Morgan still has never been found ... 25 plus years later!!
It is Beyond frustrating. You feel like you are along for the ride right there with Colleen but there are still no real answers by the end. I can only imagine what her family feels to this day. And it is so heart wrenching to see her mother still carry that glimpse of hope.
Echoes (2022)
Not understanding the bad Reviews ... ???
I honestly do not understand all of the negative reviews about this show. I think this was very well written and was very clever.
I thought the lead actress did a phenomenal job playing both sisters. And it was twisted how they would switch places every year. The sheriff was sarcastic and obnoxious, not to mention nosy. And that made for a great character!
I honestly thought the show was fantastic. It is also not a show that you can walk away from while it is on. You have to be glued to the screen and constantly paying attention. And maybe that is why so many people didn't like it.
I am just disappointed that it was a limited series and there will be no more episodes.
Spiderhead (2022)
Original and Dark Comedy
Not sure what is with all the negative reviews on this one. It is a really well written and well acted movie and the storyline is original. Chris Hemsworth plays a really good villain in this movie and it tests the boundaries of psychology and free will. I enjoyed it very much!
Old (2021)
Original story! I liked it.
This Director is a hit or miss for me. Some of his movies I absolutely love; like Split and Signs. And then some are just boring and ridiculous like The Happening.
This one had an original script and the ending was very satisfying. I definitely enjoyed it and I recommend giving it a fair shot.
Any Given Sunday (1999)
Very long & Boring
I remember watching this years ago when it first came out but I couldn't really remember if I liked it or not. Then it recently got released on Netflix so I figured I would rewatch it.
Now I realize why I couldn't remember the movie ... it was easily forgettable. I found it to be too long and just plain boring. And Jamie Foxx's character was just far too arrogant to root for! I actually didn't even finish it as I was so bored.
The poor script was such a waste on a great cast. I am a huge James Woods fan and his character was barely utilized. And Cameron Diaz tried far too hard in this role. It just didn't work.
This Is Us: Katoby (2022)
Kate sucks!! Team Toby!!
She does NOT deserve a happy ending by any means! I was really bothered by how she reacted when Toby says he will quit his job in San Francisco (a job he LOVES) to come back to LA. Not only does she let him do it, she shows zero appreciation of what he is giving up for the sake of their marriage. Kate's response, a half-hearted "ok".
She suggests couple's therapy, but then made no effort in the therapy sessions and if that was how she was going to be, she should never have let him leave SF. She should have called it quits right then. Kate truly treated Toby like crap and took him for granted. And of course she gets the house in the divorce as well.
I really enjoyed hearing Phillip's backstory and immediately thought "Run!! Kate does not deserve you."
One silver lining, looks like Toby finds love again and I could not be happier for him!!
So happy this is the last season.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
Well done! Binged in 2 days
I really enjoyed the series and I thought it was well acted and the script was well written. Definitely deserves a higher rating than 7.1. I also really enjoyed the plot twist as it was unexpected and I didn't see it coming.
I am also a practicing lawyer in the USA, so I really enjoyed seeing how trials are done in the UK! That part was particularly interesting to me. I thought the 2 attorneys tried an amazing case on both sides & I think I would have come to the same conclusion as the Jury.
Definitely give the show a chance. 👍
A Million Little Things (2018)
Please get rid of Sophie & Daniel
These two characters have become so obnoxious and they really should be removed from the cast altogether. Their storylines are so frustrating and they act like spoiled brats. They add nothing to the show and should just be written out.
I love the new storyline with Gina and her dad, I think it is really well written and well acted. I also love what is going on with Maggie and Gary. YAY!!
But overall the storylines have become stale and not as entertaining as it used to be. I really enjoyed the first two seasons the most. I am hoping this will be their last season.
Reacher (2022)
Finally!! A great show with no political BS!!
I literally binge-watched this in a day and am now rewatching it with my husband. Absolutely love it. Great action, great storyline and the characters are fantastic.
Interaction between Reacher and Finlay is hilarious and enjoyable. And every episode leaves you on a cliffhanger. I am just so tired of seeing shows with an "agenda" and "woke" nonsense. It is nice to finally sit back and enjoy a riveting storyline, likable characters and an excellent revenge plot all played out.
I am now starting the book series because the show had me so intrigued.
Reminiscence (2021)
Original script with a great Ending - will watch it again & again
Not fully understanding all of the negative reviews on this one. It is actually a really well written and unique script. And I absolutely loved Hugh Jackman in this role. I am not too sure where the harsh critics are coming from, it is a bit of a buildup with the story & does have a slower pace.
Also there are a couple of unnecessary characters thrown in, but overall it was really well done. The idea of being able to go back and relive some of your most precious memories, sounds kind of amazing.
The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021)
Beautiful stories interwoven perfectly
I really loved it! Not only did J and B have an amazing connection, but I loved the on-screen romance between Ellie and Rory. And Rory was an excellent comedic relief to the story as well! Loved it. Now I need to read the book.
Divergent (2014)
Really enjoyed it
I watched years back when it first came out and then saw it pop up on Tubi. I decided to rewatch it again and I definitely enjoy it now as well.
It checks all the boxes:
1. Action
2. Drama
3. Romance
4. Some comedic relief
Not sure why it received such horrible reviews; I thought it was a fun and entertaining film. And it has a unique premise with the different factions and the simulation testing. I definitely enjoyed it.
Cruel Summer (2021)
Very well-written
I love the show and I really do believe Jeannette. And while Kate is a victim; I just don't believe her. Something about her is truly not trust-worthy.
I love the altering timelines and it isn't too confusing to follow. Tons of unexpected twists.
I would say the only negative is the Mallory character. She is so obnoxious! And her voice .... just cringe-worthy! One of the worst actresses ever.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
What's with all the bad reviews??
I am not understanding all the hate??
I love love love this show & the reunion was wonderful!! It made me cry multiple times throughout.<3 I loved seeing the cast!! I do wish they would have done more Q&A individually with the cast!! That would have been really awesome!
I really loved the table readings too!! I greatly enjoyed this Reunion. I just wanted more!!!
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Reviews are too harsh! 7/10
I have been impatiently waiting for this movie to come out for 2 years!! Obsessed with the book & love Amy Adams; so I could not wait to see this.
I do agree that the big "plot twist" was underwhelming and anti-climactic. I think there could have been a much better build up to that reveal. But that doesn't ruin this movie by any means.
It is very "Hitchcock" like which is something that doesn't happen much these days. When they show all of the various apartment views I thought "this is just like Rear Window"!
Amy Adams nailed the role as an Agoraphobic struggling mental trauma. Amazing actress, love her work! And they casted a great actor for Det. Little, I thought he was very empathetic in the role. And the kid who played ... Ethan ... also fantastic.
I plan to watch it again! And for those that "hate" this movie, you have no concept of the old school thrillers. That is what this movie was paying homage to. :)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Not nearly as good as #1
I agree with many reviewers that it is a bit 80s "campy", which is still fun for sure. But it just doesn't hold a candle to the 1st movie. I saw the first one theaters 3x!! I absolutely loved that movie.
This movie just doesn't hit the same level. The whole "wishing stone" was a bit weird and not a solid storyline in my opinion. Loved they brought Steve back, but again ... the movie was lacking the action/feel of the first one. Did I "hate" it? No. Did I love it ... No!
The Undoing (2020)
Great twists!!
I enjoyed it very much & while I had a theory as to who "did it" at the start; turned out I was way off. It was great to see Donald Sutherland still acting as well, I loved his role.
And Hugh Grant gave an amazing performance!! I really thought he did a fantastic job. Kidman was a bit flat and pretty emotionless. Grant more than made up for it though.
Into the Dark (2018)
GET BETTER ACTORS!
Some of the episodes are actually really good!
But it all cones down to the acting. For example "Flesh & Blood" was really good, but had a good actor. "They come knocking" as well as "Nasty piece of work".
But many of them have just terrible storylines coupled with awful acting like: "new year new you", "Down", and "my valentine".
Invest in better actors!!
Suicide Squad (2016)
It's a Fun DC movie
Not sure why people hate this movie so much?? I thought it was fun and entertaining! Enjoyed Will Smith's character he was funny. And of course Harley Quinn stole the show.
Give it a fair chance. And do yourself a favor ... stop comparing DC and Marvel. 2 different brands.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Snooze fest
This story is soooo slow! I didn't find it remotely scary at all. King's stuff is hit or miss for me though. I thought the new IT movies were terrifying and I enjoyed the new Pet Sematary. But this one .... Pass!
The Lodge (2019)
Requires multiple viewings - Amazing
Read the review of IconicBreezeMachine left on Aug 30, 2020!! That review NAILS the understanding of this film perfectly.
The negative reviews are likely from people that were seeking your standard jump/scare horror flick. That isn't what this is at all. It is much darker than that.
SPOILERS BELOW
It is Gaslighting in its most darkest form coupled with a desolate cabin setting. I actually want to watch it again to see what subtleties I missed the first go-around. At first you think they are dead, then you find out they aren't dead, but the girlfriend believes they are dead. All a "prank" gone too far.
MORE SPOILERS ...
And for those that say the Ending left unanswered questions ... it doesn't. It just doesn't show the actual act, but it is clear that after she shot their father, she was placing that tape on their mouths and her own to complete and seal their fate just like what was shown in the cult video earlier in the movie. All of them die by the very end of the film. That much is clear.
Again, this was a dark psych thriller/horror. It does move slowly, but with an excellent pay-off in the end.
Clinical (2017)
Original & creepy
I enjoyed it and thought it was creepy and scary! It had a great twist at the end. A bit gory, but still great!
