The Sympathizer (2024)
Rewrite. Relive. Restart.
Honestly, I wasn't surprised by how quickly this show hooked me, and PCW is the supreme reason for that. His stellar direction helped boost the flow of the story in the initial episodes, as did the other directors in the later ones. The show portrays a great image of the Vietnam War, which is totally unfamiliar to me with its dark humor, intense moments, and sharp writing.
Telling the story from the captain's perspective was a great move. It was essential to show how torn up he is between his allegiances, identities, friendships, and cultures. RDJ had been the selling point of this show from the start, and he was completely unrecognizable in every single role. But shows like The Sympathizer need a strong protagonist, and it doesn't disappoint in that area. Hoa Xuande was outstanding with his screen presence, and he genuinely deserves more appreciation.
The Sympathizer is truly special just for its unique take on the war, and it feels like Prime HBO once again, especially after the number of stinkers they've given recently.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Wasn't expecting it to make me emotional at this level
Godzilla -1.0 not only met my expectations with its incredible monster action and the depiction of post-war trauma, it exceeded them to a certain level that literally made my eyes tearful. I was pleasantly impressed by the narrative, which was filled with raw emotions, survival drama, and some truly haunting scenes.
The factor that often falls short in the Kaiju genre is the lack of focus on the human side of the story, but that's not the case here. This film keeps aside the action for most of its runtime, lets the characters properly breathe, and tells a beautiful story of Kõichi and Noriko's survival and their dependence on each other during these times, and that's the major reason it's now my favorite of last year. Godzilla's screen time was really limited, as I mentioned above, but I was surprised to see how realistic the CGI and atomic breath looked considering how little budget they were given. I'm more than satisfied with the overall result, just wish it was longer.
Shôgun (2024)
Spectacular, Stylish and Brilliant
I don't really have anything else to say that hasn't already been said about Shogun. Politically, it's extremely rich and feels pretty thoughtful and clever with the game every single character plays throughout the season. It's mature, stylish, gorgeous, feels truly well structured, and never relies on nudity or big battle sequences. Every single line of dialogue that's been shared between the characters expresses their motives precisely, whether it's their greed for power, fears, or determination towards their duty.
Hiroyuki, Anna, Cosmo, and every actor truly made this show what it is; there isn't a single conversation where I kept my eyes away from the screen, even for a second, because the drama and tension are there from the start, and it's truly immersive. The female characters were the best; they were brave, dutiful, and stayed behind the eightfold fence but never shied away from breaking it whenever necessary. Yabushige was still my favorite, though. It doesn't try to oversimplify the complexity of its world and respects its audience's ability to properly get along with its world. I already admire how impressive the Japanese culture is, but Shogun portrays it brilliantly. Whether it's the spectacular setpieces, gorgeous landscapes, or the fine and colorful outfits, it excels in everything with its massive budget.
The finale reveal wasn't unexpected and justifies what Toranaga has been saying all along: "You are playing a game of friends and enemies when you have only yourself in this life." Although I was expecting a stronger closure, I'm mostly satisfied with how things wrapped up. I'll say it again: Shogun is a remarkable show, and I couldn't recommend it enough.
The Iron Claw (2023)
"I used to be a brother"
I'm not really into wrestling, but the ambition of Von Erichs towards the sport gives such a huge lesson regarding life. Their journey was filled with sorrow, achievements, and even bigger tragedies, but the determination was still there.
The cast was phenomenal, and each one of the family members played an important role in defining the choices within Kevin's life. When his only desire was taken away, the film showed us the true value of family and how it's the best healer for a person who's suffering through crucial moments of life. I'd recommend going into this completely blind because it's not just about the sport but instead a wonderful discovery of family bonds and bromance.
Succession: All the Bells Say (2021)
Just Release Season 4...
First of all , this episode doesn't deserve the 9.9 rating that it got , it's been so great that imdb has to make a special 11 rating system for this particular masterpiece . From the very start of the episode , there was plenty of perfect scenes which i have never witnessed in a single episode until today . Especially the last scene of Tom was just blowed up my mind .
I just don't know how am i gonna wait for Season 4 after seeing this goddamn episode !!!
Vikings (2013)
Who Wants To Be A King?
Vikings is probably one of the best history show I have watched in a long time. This Show gaves it's best in everything whether it is Action, History, or it's religious aspect. I liked every Single moment of it.
But there is a sudden downhill in the show after Ragnar's death. It actually lose it's true nature and becomes uniteresting And a little boring. Season 5 & 6 Are especially the most weakest seasons of the show yet some characters like Lagertha, Bjorn And Ivar tries to makes you watch it.
Season 1-3 Are A must watch as it explores the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok and that is pretty good then season 4 is also good one but a little dull compared to previous seasons but still watchable but Season 5 And 6 are bit disappointing.
