Rocky III (1982)
Greatest sports movie of all time
You may be thinking, this guy is crazy, Rocky III is decent at best. Indulge me for a second. Rocky III is perfect because it takes the viewer on an absolute roller coaster ride of emotions...just like real life.
1) There is laughter and fun (fighting Hulk Hogan in an exhibition match)
2) There is a seemingly unattainable goal (trying to beat the incredibly intimidating Clubber Lang, aka Mr. T)
3) There is incredible loss (Rocky's long time manager and father figure, Mickey, dies after being pushed by Clubber Lang)
4) There is a great villain (Clubber Lang killed Mickey for Pete's sake)
5) There is great friendship despite being at odds (Rocky's old arch-rival, Apollo Creed, returns to train Rocky to beat Clubber Lang)
6) There is catharsis (Rocky being so tough for so long finally breaks down and admits to Adrian that he is afraid of Clubber Lang) - how many movie heroes have ever admitted that?
7) There is moral support and the importance of family (After Rocky admits he is afraid and wants to quit, Adrian builds Rocky's confidence back up and shows him it's ok to be afraid and that everyone will be there for him, win or lose)
8) Finally, there is redemption (Rocky shows that, with trust and determination, he can let others in (Apollo & Adrian) to help him achieve his goal.
Uncharted (2022)
One word: Preposterous
Uncharted is so over the top and preposterous that even a suspension of disbelief will not save this movie. Way too much CGI and the action scenes are not put together well. It tries to establish a plot in the beginning, but its obvious it is trying to rip off Indiana Jones and The Goonies. The movie has no charm, no wit, no soul. Hollywood action movies are dead, everyone follows the Fast and the Furious model of dumb action movie and I am getting tired of it. Even the video games had better plots. Skip it even if you played all the games like I did.
This Is the Night (2021)
Don't listen to the negative reviews, judge for yourself
I remember seeing Rocky III in the theater when I was ten. Let me tell you, it WAS a major event. It was sold at out and we convinced the theater to let us in so we actually stood up in the back of the theater to watch it. It was the only time I stood up in a theater and it was totally worth it. Which brings me to this film. It definitely brought up feelings of nostalgia and I love how it didn't flinch away from the way people talked to each other back then. It was a heartwarming coming of age story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Witcher (2019)
Best way to watch Season 2
...is to fast forward all the scenes with Fringilla & Yennefer. It so obvious that woke culture shoehorned its way into this plot line. Just watch Geralt & Ciri, it makes the show a lot more tolerable. I'm a huge fan of the Witcher games and using one of the games' side mission plots would have been better than the Fringilla/Yennefer plot line. If this show doesn't improve by Season 3, I'm done.
Turbo Kid (2015)
The greatest independent movie of all time
It's impossible to watch this movie and not have a smile on your face. Is it an homage to video games like Mega Man? Is it a gory love letter to Mad Max? Yes & yes, but the movie is so much more than that. It's about a kid that comes of age. You actually see his development from a boy to a man. This movie has more heart than 90% of films out there. If you are a child of the 80's, you will love it even more. The best thing, however, is the soundtrack. It makes a great movie into a masterpiece. Awesome synth melodies permeate every action scene and low key synth sounds accompany emotional moments. So, turn down the lights, turn up the sound from your speakers and prepare for a journey unlike anything you have even seen. I love this movie.
I Care a Lot (2020)
It started off so good...
Then she escaped out of a submerged car after being drugged. Then her girlfriend survives an assault when she should have been dead. Then the apartment of the girlfriend explodes minutes after she is pulled her out of the apartment. Then she takes on the mafia by herself, but doesn't kill the main villain. The ridiculousness never ends. This movie insults the intelligence of the viewer the likes of which I have never seen. Deserves 1 star but gets 2 because she dies at the end.
Boss Level (2020)
Pure fun, pure excitement, pure adrenaline...repeated
This movie is pure fun...period. It has videogame elements to it, but it's not really a videogame movie. It's a great time loop movie and I kept waiting for the movie to go south and it never did. It was great throughout and is totally worth your time. The script was better than I thought it would be. Anyone who says this is not a good movie doesn't know how to have fun. Kick back, grab some popcorn and I DARE YOU TO PICK UP YOUR PHONE ONCE during this movie. Quick answer: You won't because you will be having such a good time watching Boss Level.
Gangs of London (2020)
Worth watching for Episode 6 alone
Just an amazing series. Anyone who loved The Raid: Redemption knows what to expect. Brutal action scenes and high adrenaline scenarios. The 15 min shootout scene in Episode 6 is one of the best action scenes I have ever seen, movie or TV otherwise. Don't skip this one!
Fat Fiction (2020)
Watch your way to better health
In 50 years, this documentary will be considered the gold standard in how to reverse diabetes and ensure good health. I have tried it myself and have lost weight and it has helped my daily headaches tremendously. I am not ravenously hungry anymore and quit snacking almost entirely due to eating more fat. An easy way to incorporate fat is eating avocados, eggs & coconut chips for a snack. Look, go moderate carb and SEE HOW YOU FEEL. Than, start going low carb if you feel better. Only thing missing from this documentary is mentioning reducing gluten & dairy intake which contribute to headaches and other digestive issues. Also, ditch the sugar - it does nothing for you and fuels chronic conditions. I wish you all the best of luck.
Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
AN EXCELLENT FILM
I simple cannot believe the bad reviews on this film. People have called it boring and a waste of time. Those people would rather watch the garbage The Rock puts out and call that good. This film is very old school and focuses on PLOT, but when the action comes, it really comes. There are scenes that will shock you, but if you have seen Craig Zahler's other films, it's to be expected. Character development is top notch and you can tell this was a film the director wanted to make without it being watered down by Hollywood. I was literally yelling at the TV because scenes were so intense. Don't pass up this film! It will show you how films used to be made!
