Designing Miami (2022)
More of a reality show with abnoxious people than a design show
Extremely abnoxious designers complaining nonstop. Its more of Miami Kardashians who design rather than a design show or interior design based. Almost on-existent design thought process included. Designs are unoriginal and uninspired.
Couldnt make it past the second episode because I was consistently annoyed by these people and for the lack of design content - which is why Im watching this. I did however skip to design materials until episode 6.... absolutely worthless.
This show would have been much better if they focused on the two main designers home (which is still being comstructed) minus all the friends, family, complaining and the non-drama drama. Would have been actual content if they took us on that journey of the plan process, design process, and implementation. Dont think I have seen a design show that did this so what a waste of a missed opportunity.
US design shows should take notes from British onea because this wasnt the first show that I had these sentiments towards.
One Piece (2023)
Absolutely fantastic!
I have not seen the anime or read the manga, and I only just finished thr 3rd episode, but I cannot keep in just how much I am enjoying this show. This is the only US production I have loooooved since Game of Thrones season 1 came out 12 years ago (which was ruined in season 6 after Hollywood writing took over). Given how great it is I am assuming Hollywood did not take many liberties, and it is quite evident.
This is SO much fun to watch, the writing is great (and not cringe as it has been for over a decade), the visuals and the casting is PERFECT! I cannot imagine anyone else would do as perfect a job as the actor for Luffy... who was brilliant!
If you are not watching this, you are missing out.
Instant Dream Home (2022)
No design insight AT ALL
This show was more focused on identity politics than design. Its actually the first design show Ive seen where i did not hear ANY reasoning to why it was designed it such a way. And the host was annoying and useless. I much oreffered shows where the host was an actual interior designer who could explain the space and why it was implented the way it did. This show had ZERO design reasoning.
Foundation (2021)
Great visuals, but thats all it is
I have not read Asimov so not comparing it to the books and have no reference point. I enjoyed the visuals and the world, but thats about it. The writing is absolutely horrible. I had a lot of issues with some of the logic of how things went. The actors/casting was as horrible as the writing. While I dont mind a diverse cast it felt it was more of a political statement than fitting the role/story.
I found episode 1 very enjoyable. Episode 2 and 3 were very boring, 4 was great. It progressively went downhill rrom there. Frankly sick and tired of woke mediocre writers. When will they realize production quality alone is not enough to make a good show? Frankly felt I was pushing myself to finish the show in hope it would redeem itself - it didnt. I was more disappointed in the end that after Episode 4. On the bright side, it encouraged me to start reading the books.
Eung-dab-ha-ra 1997 (2012)
Void of Reply 1988 quality & all of its charm!
I just finished Reply 1988 and was IN LOVE with it - everything about it! So thought I would watch this next given its high rating/reviews.
I am 5 episodes in and MAJORLY disappointed to say the least. Most characters were super abnoxious and too annoying to even tolerate watching with absolutely no redeeming qualities about them. 70% of the dialogue was stupid arguments about nothing and doesnt add to the story and i felt myself being annoyed all through EVERY episode so far. These 5 episodes could have been half of one if they removed the bickering fluff. I also find myself not caring/interested enough in any character or what happens next or to anyone.
I feel like I gave it a fair chance and I am glad i won't be hearing people scream and fight about nonesence anymore.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Full Asian cast with abnoxiously American dialogue
Title says it all. The dialogue was so ridiculously Ameican I was vicilitating between and laughing hysterically. Visually stunning but completely stripped of everything i loved about the characters and everything else in the book...mainly the subtlety and nuances of the Asian culture. While they made sure to make it LOOKS authentic it lacked authenticity is literally every other aspect.
Skip the movie and read the book.
