T. P. Bon (2024)
Doraemon Lover! Assemble.
One of the aspects I adore most about the anime series T. P. Bon on Netflix is its reminiscent charm of Doraemon. From the artistic style to the characters and settings, it evokes that nostalgic sense, albeit with a unique twist on time traveling.
T. P. Bon is a captivating tale about Bon, a regular high school student who unexpectedly gets entangled in a time-travel dilemma, eventually becoming a time patrol agent alongside Ream and Buyoyon. Together, they journey through history to save people from the past.
Although T. P. Bon adopts a classic Doraemon approach with each episode presenting a standalone story, there's a cohesive thread that connects the entire series. Paying attention to the details really pays off, adding depth to the viewer's experience.
However, it's disappointing how Bon's friends are sidelined in the narrative, unlike Doraemon's iconic friends like Giant, Shizuka, and Suneo. The focus shifts primarily to his time patrol colleagues like Ream and Buyoyon from the future, leaving little room for his original friends.
The series is generally a comforting watch for children, yet there are moments when it seems to skew away from a typical kid's show, aligning more with its 16+ rating.
For those who, like me, miss those childhood moments of watching Doraemon every Sunday morning, T. P. Bon will resonate with you, as it targets audiences who cherish those memories.
Shôgun (2024)
Beautiful Series. Shogun, Sugoi!
If you're a fan of historical dramas and political intrigue, "Shogun" is likely to capture your attention. Based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell of the same title, the series narrates the gripping tale of English sailor John Blackthorne (portrayed by Cosmo Jarvis), who finds himself shipwrecked in Japan. Aligning with the powerful daimyo, Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), Blackthorne becomes embroiled in a deadly conflict with rival daimyos and religious zealots determined to overthrow Toranaga.
One of the series' standout features is its rich character development. The protagonists, especially Lord Toranaga, are not only compelling but are portrayed with depth and complexity. Toranaga's wisdom and strategic acumen, turning seemingly dire situations to his advantage, are particularly fascinating and kept me thoroughly engrossed.
The casting and performances are exceptional, vividly conveying the tensions of strict Japanese cultural norms and the overarching political machinations. The focus on the characters' emotions enhances the narrative, supported by subtle yet effective cinematography and lighting. The use of natural lighting enriches the authenticity of the setting, transporting viewers to the era of feudal Japan.
Having watched all 10 episodes, I was impressed by the well-paced script that maintains suspense and engagement throughout, culminating in a finale that leaves one eagerly anticipating the next season.
Moreover, the historical accuracy concerning the rise of the Tokugawa shogunate adds a layer of educational value, enriching the viewer's experience as the story unfolds.
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Medical Prescription: NEED BETTER WRITER!
Despite many people that I see online disliking this movie, some are hating. I still enjoyed overall the movie but like my titles says, I feel annoyed by the story.
Let's talk about the good things first. The shots here is the best thing of the movie, it speak good visual storytelling and I feel that dramatic tense throughout the movie. My favorite is Jimmy's scene, the visual is just epic. The CGI is very cool too, salute to the team.
The choreography, sometimes I think they're cool, sometimes I feel like they're dumb.
Zack Snyder being Zack Snyder as usual, the slow motion effect is presence and I think this time is kind of satisfying. I even enjoyed the harvesting scene that many people complained, I see it like the character bonding to the everyday activity of the villagers.
What I disappointed on this movie is the whole story, theme, and character's motives is not justified for the big fight and low reward. It's making the same mistake as the first part.
The main characters on the group still feels like a stranger meddling with someone else's business, even with all talk about their sad past. Talk big and all muscle and violence.
Feel's like it's lazy writing, because they dump the exposition again and again. It makes me feel like I didn't care anymore about it.
It's either a bad writing and focusing on cool content or it's just a bad editing because I suspect there are many things that are edited out of the movie because it is left many things feel like rushed.
We know there going to be a continuation, maybe they prepared the unsaid story for the next movie. If it is, I think it's a bad decision. They introduced so many things at once and it's risking the movie to fail.
I hope for the next movie, they going to give us a better story. I just take it the two first movie is for introduction and we get the main course in the next. I will wait for it.
Gisaengsu: Deo geurei (2024)
When Anime Enthusiast and K-drama Lover Unified!
With a well-known director, Yeon Sang-ho, a director of Train to Busan and Hellbound. We could expect an exciting a horror-thriller movie as he delivered before. Which we got it in the 'Parasyte : The Grey' series.
For those who loves this genre this could be your list for entertainment, and as a fan of original Parasyte/Kiseijuu you would find this series even though it took place in South Korea with Korean Cast, it feels like the original Kiseijuu that brings a thrilling experience and a deep theme like meaning of existence and cooperation.
But again, why I rate this series a 7 is because despite all the quality I said before those quality feels not consistent throughout the series and need improvement. Especially in the writing, but in their defense I thought 6 episode is too short for them to bring the shine of these deep theme and iconic source from the original.
Fallout (2024)
A must-watch bombastic series.
'Fallout : Season 1' is bombastic series that does justice to the original source. As a fan of some of the Bethesda games, I have to say it bring the Bethesda storytelling magic into this series, where one could question the ethical dilemma with their final action and doesn't shy away from a tragic and convincing background.
Ella Purnell does a great job portraying the main character as a naive person who doesn't know real world, and I have to say Walton Goggins playing the Ghoul is the main course of this fine dining series.
I love that this series brings the irony approach to the story and directing, where we could see a contrast reality between two world and one could questions the theme of post apocalypse. Just as the first episode talking about the end, and ends with the beginning. Absolutely love the show, very recommended.
