Metamorphosis (2022)
Intriguing Slow Burn
This film is stacked with so much atmosphere. It's beautifully shot and the consistent tone breeds added dread throughout. For fans of more heady horror like 'It Comes At Night'.
AVA: A Twist in the Road (2021)
Strong Performance
A VERY strong lead performance puts this intriguing indie above others. If you enjoy a good slow burn, I recommend checking this one out. Well worth your time.
Pescador (2020)
Dark Comedy
If dark comedies are your thing, this is worth your time. It's always great to stumble upon an indie I hadn't heard of, and be thoroughly entertained through. Give it a chance! You won't be disappointed :)
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater (2020)
Nice Little Indie.
This is an indie worth your time. It has strong performances and great cinematography. I was thoroughly entertained throughout.
Support indie films and give it a shot, it's worth your time!
The Other Side of Darkness (2022)
Strong indie feature
This film is ambitious beyond its budget limitations, but it pulls off what it is trying to do, sucking you into the story and caring about the characters. The harsh reviews here come from people expecting a 100mil film. This film really is a solid feat.
Whiskey Sour (2022)
Nice little indie, worth your time.
This film rewards a patient viewer. It's very much a conversation piece, but I say that it in a good way. It's as if we get a fly-on-the-wall look at the lives of these interesting characters. Definitely something I'm glad I clicked on and gave a watch :)
The Lost (2022)
Worth your time
A nice indie that starts slow (that's not a negative) but really gets going in the second act. Highly recommended!! If you are looking for something to watch, and to support independent filmmakers, this is worth a watch.
Charlie (2022)
Beautifully shot, quiet but affecting film.
Charlie is a quiet film, paced to perfection. You need to be ready for a slow-burn emotional power punch, but if you know what you're in for it's worth your time. Since seeing this film and its beautiful cinematography, I looked into filmmaker Ybarra and was so amazed by how young he is, so I checked out his earlier shorts. While they show he was clearly taking the learn-by-do approach, this proves he sure as hell has learnt (each film improves). I'm blown away by the maturity Charlie, so please give it your attention. Looking forward to see what Ybarra does next.
Horror in the High Desert (2021)
Slow burn found footage
A great slow burner of a horror film. Those complaining of it being boring were probably looking at their phone throughout and not letting the atmosphere sink in. So great to see an ff film that isn't all screaming and shaky cam with no substance.
The Stalker (2020)
Fun little thriller.
A nasty little thriller that doesn't overstay it's welcome. Worth checking out!! Really impressed with what this film does with its limited budget. Looking forward to seeing what the team does next.
Maysville (2021)
A small miracle of an indie.
Micro-budget period films tend to lack authenticity, but not this one. The cast and crew have pulled off something fantastic here that deserves to be seen. It's a perfect mixture of coming-of-age and period-piece that had me hooked instantly and kept me in its grasp throughout. Put this great little film on your watchlist because you won't be disappointed.
Sideworld: Haunted Forests of England (2022)
Hauntingly Beautiful.
This is not one of your standard 'talking head' documentaries. It's a haunting meditation and reflection on these forests and their pasts historically, and through tales of their folklore. Told with beautiful imagery, combined with a creative take on the Ken Burns-effect, this is a must watch for horror and history buffs.
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Great early 2000's-style twenty-somthings dramady throwback.
This beautifully shot and well-acted comedy/drama is a throwback to those released in the early 00's. It's difficult for a two-hander to remain interesting throughout, but this film keeps your attention and concludes exactly where it should without overstaying it's welcome. If you're a fan of the Duplass Brothers, Joe Swanberg or Lynn Shelton, I highly advise that you give this film a shoot. I look forward to seeing more from the filmmakers.
