Monk (2002)
Entertaining who-dunnit with quirky spin
After all these years, it's taken the COVID19 lockdown to provide time to watch this entertaining series. Classic Agatha Christie-esque detective comedy drama with believable characters and funny lines. Bitty who plays Sharona is the heroine of the show and she becomes more interesting with each episode. Monk (Tony Shalhoub) has Aspergic tendencies compounded with OCD that is endearing at 1st but, eventually irritating. I imagine that is the intention of the writers which is why the season survived for 7 years.
Overall, an entertaining gem that has earned it's star in the TV walk of fame and conversational references. 'Everyone' familiar with Western World pop culture over the age of 25 knows what you mean if someone is described as 'Monk'.
The Chosen (2017)
You've not seen a series like this before
And it's not an overstatement. Usually, portrayals of Jesus focus on him and everyone else is a hazy extra - and save a few series, it's crammed in a 2 hour film.
'The Chosen' starts a bit slow but builds and gets better with each episode. If I say more in this there might be a spoiler!
Characters in The Chosen are relatable, funny and wonderfully flawed - from the disciples to those opposed to Jesus' message.
The dialogue borrows heavily from scripture (as one would expect) but the actors deliver it so naturally, lacking artifice that demonstrates the actors have inhabited the spirits of their characters. It also demonstrates and expert script and a keen directing eye.
At a time when parents might be struggling for well-made, wholesome TV content for their kids that is still grown up enough for them to enjoy - this is it. You don't have to be a Christian to enjoy this series but it may prompt you to pick up the Bible to see what it really says about this God-Man Jesus and the people privileged to be with Him at that time.
Solomon and Gaenor (1999)
Authentic
The performances in this movie, particularly by the title stars are so convincing. Enjoyed this film and it's showcasing of the raw Welsh mining countryside.
Knight and Day (2010)
Entertaining!
Watched this recently one afternoon and it's super fun. So impressed with Tom Cruise's quirky but convincing performance that I've been rummaging Prime for more.
