Ruined (2023)
It's aiiiiight
This was just okay. This is a safe thriller with a completely predictable ending.
The acting was pretty good but it's only so much you can do with a script that's subpar. The concept is kinda unique but it could have delivered a bit more.
There were a few unanswered questions for me.
******SPOILER ALERT****** STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE SPOILER******
1) The friend found all of this evidence at the end and got away, could we have not seen her turning it in to the police?
2) Why not call the police to say your brother was in her house whether she knew or not? She was a bit too calm to have a missing brother in the hands of a crazy woman. She had text messages to prove he was at the woman's house.
3) None of Taura's old friends or family members knew what she was up to?
4) Why the hell did Landon even let Alexis in the damn house after knowing what she'd been accused of doing already. Nah, wait on the porch bih.
Overall, good try. This was like eating lemon pepper seasoned surprise, it's not chicken, it's drywall.
(Meaning, some flavor but I don't need to repeat this movie)...
Gentefied (2020)
Good show but unrealistic
Soft spoilers
I'm a black female and enjoy shows exploring diversity. So far, enjoying the show (Ep 7).
Overall, I think it has a great plot but some of the scenes are a bit unrealistic and predictable which is like, really? Where are the, "I definitely didn't see that coming!" moments? The bread crumbs leading to the reveal, are more like dinner rolls. Give us a hint but not too much, like with the painting... That was good.
I REALLY appreciate learning the backstory to each of the characters that we learned about in the first couple of episodes. I always feel like I want to know exactly how everyone is connected and why. That was set up well!
I don't mind seeing Ana's relationship or those like it but my goodness, those two kiss entirely too much. It's unrealistic and overkill. I'd expect more of that from Erik and Lidia, given their circumstances. Let's see an even balance of affection and find more creative ways to show the audience, loving relationships. I'd be curious to read the script to see if it's written that way or if that's from the Director...
Overall, it's funny and relatable. I am glad I took a chance on this!
NOTE: If you do not understand Spanish, English subtitles are necessary. Enjoy!
