The first time in my life

I went to see this movie at the cinema, in France, when it came out.

I really didn't like Benoit Poelvoord's movies but it read the cinema festival and it was cheap so when my friends proposed to watch it, I decided I'd go too... I didn't expect much but it didn't even reach the levels of my low expectations... It's the only movie they I paid for and still left the theater room mid-movie.

I was 19 years old at the time and I didn't have money so for me to leave something for which I paid, you can imagine how bored I felt with that movie!

I'm just reviewing it now because I was discussing with friends what movie we hated at the cinema and I remembered it....

Proximity (II) (2020)

It started well, even very well, I would say.

Then it slowed down a little and I started to suspect that it may become bad so I started reading reviews here and saw that they were mostly bad.

I thought they were exaggerating .. but oh my god, no, they were not!

It's really bad!

When they got taken by the government agents, it's when everything changed. Suddenly the movie looked cheap.

Come on, didn't they find themselves ridiculous with their shiny sunglasses?

Bad CGI during the train chase spoiled the other well done effects.

The main character always has a perplexed face... Is he really an actor?

The dialogs vary from boring to ok, with moments of trying to sound good but it does not make sense.

For example: "we're detaining you against your will because...".

Nobody is detained on their free will. I guess they wanted to sound smarter or something.

Or also, "what are you doing? We're going to get caught!" says the girl already caught and tied to a chair... Another good one: hacking the PC and saying "his wifi is strong" ... What?!

And the reason the aliens came... To hear about Jesus?! It's so stupid it makes me mad.

I advise you to skip it as the other alternative is being disgusted you wasted your time.

Utopia (2020)

I wished I could see the original

The idea is good and the picture is beautiful but there are things in the story that makes this show hard to like... For what I understand after reading other reviews, the points I find frustrating or stupid are not in the original so I hope someday I can watch that instead.

Jessica is so hateable that it's hard to continue watching...

They could not even make the action scenes interesting... If you speak French, a few jokes may need funny enough but only a few, and even that, it's not like it's hilarious.

I thought I'd watch, expecting something bad, like a cheap "die hard".

I thought it would be good enough to be entertaining.

It was not.

It's not a cheap die hard, it's a very very cheap die hard.

I usually find sequels bad, unless I really like the first movie, and even so, I would just tolerate the sequel because I want to see more of the characters it universe.

I didn't like that much the first movie. I didn't hate it, though.

Added to that, it's been 30 years!

So with all that, I went to watch it expected to not like it, only because I felt like going out and nothing else looked interesting anyway.

And how glad I am that I decided to go!

During the movie, I thought a few times "what the heck?! This is so good!!".

It's far better than the first one!

You can see they used the same recipe as in the mission impossible movies, and that's a good thing!

You're on the edge of your seat the whole movie!

I also like that they didn't go the nostalgia path and went with a good story.

I went to see it on Saturday, and back again today, only three days later!

I will probably go again and will definitely but the blu-ray when it's out!

Love, Death & Robots: Jibaro (2022) Season 3, Episode 9

The best one so far!

I am disappointed with season three ... except for this episode!

It is so far above the rest, be it in the story, the design or the technical achievement!

To me, it is the best of season three, and probably the best of all the episodes combined!

Hamilton (2020)

OMG it's boring

I didn't expect to like it much but wow it's boring!

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not American so the founding of the country is not that interesting to me.

Added to that, I don't like hip-hop ... and the lyrics are so simplistic and the pace does not leave you time to get invested.

Changing the ethnicity of the characters means they the few that I already knew, I would not recognize them...

One particular thing to watching it on Disney+: the reactions of the audience were so annoying.

They laughed at the hint of a joke or at things that are not remotely funny.

An example would be one character (don't even know the name and I'm watching right now) saying "I heard you had someone on the side, Burr." and the audience laughed like it was a very good joke... What?!

I'm so happy I didn't spend money to see this live when I visited the US (though I went to see Aladdin, which was not good either, though better than this. I loved School Of Rock though).

You know when sometimes a movie is so bad that it makes you mad just to watch it?

That's exactly such a movie.

Bad acting (come on, that tumor woman is so bad!), bad or irrealistic dialogues, stupid plot ... Everything is bad bad bad.

Invasion (2021–2024)

Lethargically boring

You know when in movies they try to add some depth and people overact the calmness?

They do that a lot here... A lot of silent stares, low voice talks etc.

That would be fine in another movie but it is not done well and it does not match the story.

It can be done with SF, I liked it in "Arrival" for example, but here it's overdone and the story is not moving... People look lethargic... Even kids!

I'm in the middle of episode two and I don't think I'll watch episode three.

Foundation (2021– )

What a pleasant surprise!

I remember I read and liked the book but it's strange, I don't remember the story at all.

With that in mind, I decided to try the series, expecting to be disappointed like with most of the book adaptions.

Added to that, a lot of people found the series boring in here... So I thought I'd just watch for the visuals.

The first episode is indeed a little slow but the visuals kept me watching, and how happy I am that I did!

To my surprise, it was really good!

I can't say if the adaption from the book is good or not as, even after watching the series, I can't remember anything from the book.

The visuals are superb, the actors very well cast (especially Lee Pace) and the story is interesting.

I binged watched the whole series and I'm now so sad there isn't more!

It became one of my favorite series!

Reminiscence (2021)

What a disappointment

Since I saw the trailer, I was looking forward to seeing that movie. I think that was the one I wanted to see the most, this year.

However, what a disappointment that was!

It's not even a matter of having high expectations... It's just that the story is boring and not deep enough for the tone they went for ...

Arcane (2021– )

I watched it not knowing it was based on a video game but the first line shows it's a riot game production so I thought "Great... That certainly won't be good" and almost stopped there.

I thought a videogame company would not do a good job ... But how wrong was I!

I should have thought they games nowadays have stories that rival the ones we see in movies, and this one did not only rival, it did better than most!

I don't play games much but it made me want to try the game!

Now I just hope the design and characters are the same in the game!

Not too good but it keeps you entertained enough, I guess.

I guess for people who know Japan, it's a little distracting that it's a Japan based on the image foreigners have of it.

The outside bar in a dirty small street... No, it does not look like that. Dirty streets in Tokyo are not that dirty.

Giving money and leaving with the restaurant owner saying thanks? No, he'd chase you to give the change, there is no "keep the change" in Japan.

There are more examples and it's a little annoying but the worst part is having the niece not talk a good Japanese... She has a stronger accent than mine! And the Japanese dialogues are often very bad! It really felt like someone who learned Japanese abroad wrote those lines... The English subtitles also often didn't match what they were saying.

I saw a review saying the design is cheaply made but I disagree.

In fact, the design of the anime is basically the only thing that I found good.

I don't mean it's a bad anime but it's a boring one ... The ending is supposed to make you feel something I guess, with the typical music found louder etc but I felt nothing because you feel that things just happen without emotional attachment...

The heroin also becomes suddenly mature without any evolution or anything, it just happens ...

The description says the heroin is not confident in herself but I don't think that's the best description ... She's just annoying... She's not happy and feels like a spoiled kid.

They could have made the story focus more on her evolution and how she matured but not much was shown on that...

In fact, Chii was the one that should have been the heroin, I guess. Not that it would have made the anime good, just better.

The story is very predictable... As soon as the legend read told, I guessed that the mother knew about the world and was the woman from 600 years ago, that she somehow knew the daughter would need to go and it was her birthday present. It was obviously a "time goes at a different place" world.

I guessed all that at the very beginning because it's not a very creative story.

As soon as we saw the bad guy, I told my wife "that's the prince" and when we saw him as a robot doll, I said "he was transferred to the current body".

I said that because in other movies or anime, it happened but I didn't think I would be right. But I was ...

I'm not saying that to pretend I see the future but just to show you how uncreative this anime is.

And really, it's too bad because the visuals are good (even though faces look alike other than for haircuts) and if the story had been better, it could have been a great anime.

Well, bad idea because the end is so bad... I regret having paid to watch that!

I'm watching because I want to know how it ends but I'm not really enjoying they show... I like only one or two musicals so there was a chance I would not like this one.

Unfortunately, the songs are not really good, be it the lyrics or the melodies...

Ninja Assassin (2009)

I like the story, even if it's simple.

The "power" element of the world is not overdone so even though not realistic, it's easy to suspend disbelief.

I've already watched this movie about 10 times.

Controversial opinion

It seems almost everyone prefers Sharona but after the first season with Nathalie and I got used to her, I ended up liking her more.

This episode is good but maybe because I've been binged watching the series, something felt off.

Sharona used to be more passive to Monk (except the episode where see had a phobia) so it felt strange to hear her say things like "shake it off", while Natalie is not assertive and she's the one to cave in tool Monk.

I paid for watching this movie and I stopped not even halfway... It is so boring!

Like every other comments say, it's just a big commercial.

However, they didn't even put good reasons to move from one you set to the other... Stuff are just happening... And the songs... They're so bad it's cringy.

I watched until the end because I paid for it but that's the only reason... To me, it feels that the main idea behind this movie was to "do something with asian people". Only after that, did they try to come up with a story.

Seeing the cast, I think I'm right and it was mostly to appeal to the Asian community.

However, living in Asia, my wife and friends are Asian and they didn't really care about seeing a Asian voiced Asian 3D modeled hero but they cared that they were bored... Next time, better come up with a story first. Make the character Asian if you want but come up with a good story and script first!
