Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)
So cringe
This movie is incredibly cringey. It's predictable and the plot is very weak. The main character is supposed to be a shopaholic but really she's just a girl who makes poor financial decisions; her "disease" comes and goes as per the plot (that's not to say being a shopaholic isn't a real disease that plagues people, I'm just pointing on that it is a loose part of Islam fisher's characterization that is not appropriately portrayed). The debt collector coming for her and being portrayed as a villain makes no sense. It was extremely tough to get through and I actually watched it in 2 sittings. I wouldn't recommend even though the cast is very strong.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Some space ball-esque nonsense
The movie that didn't need to happen. Since when is Peter quill the biggest wimp ever? The scenery and costumes are beyond fake...did the audience need Rocket's backstory? Drax is as annoying as ever and the cool music that made the first movie stand out is forced and overdone. Nothing about this movie makes sense and it was difficult to pay attention to front the start. There's also random usuals of unexpected foul language that's out of character.
The characters remind me of all the randoms you'd see in the Star Wars films and I think Disney just cobbled together scenes on all of the unused sets they had lying around from their mediocre Star Wars spin offs. This movie seems rushed and can't hold a candle to precious guardians of the galaxy films.
Rock of Ages (2012)
Entertaining but not good
Surprised to see Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin stoop this low to be completely honest. The movie itself just isn't good. You have to go into it, just taking it as it is and enjoy the music. The cast doesn't do a bad job interpreting the songs however I think Julianne Hough's voice just isn't strong enough to give an authentic 80's rock vibe.
The overall plot of the move is just a very loose menagerie of people who's paths happen to cross at some point set to the background of some of the classics. Of course there is a fair amount of "sex" as more of the movie than I was expecting took place in a strip club.
The movie is an entertaining watch and gave me quite a few laughs whether it was international or not (but they did give Tom cruise's character a pet monkey). I'd watch it once and then maybe toss the dvd in the bottom of the pile.
Pinocchio (2022)
Not worth the watch
Really, I like the story of Pinocchio but I'm not sure why they even bothered to remake this film and brand it as a live action when the puppet was so obviously, in your face, CGI. The fox, Pinocchio himself, the root beer during the pleasure island scene (as well as 90% of this scene) was just so blatantly unrealistic it was insulting. If Disney was going to make it live action, they missed the mark (much like their "live action" Lion King and Jungle Book"). Joseph Gordon levitt was an odd choice for Jimimy cricket in my opinion but he does a good job. The voice actor for Pinocchio was also spot on but Tom Hanks as Gepetto was awkward at best. Overall I wouldn't recommend this film.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Should just be Georgia
Much like many of the other reviews on here, I agree that the show's primary focus on Ginny is not the best use of the show's script. Georgia's character is dynamic, secretive, and leaves you trying to anticipate her next step. Ginny's, however, is overwhelmingly bland. The "distressed" teenager role is taken to extremes. Her "drama" is over the top, and frankly quite boring. Moreover, in season two, even more screen time is dedicated to small side plots of Ginny's friends when it should be dedicated to Georgia's elusive past. Georgia is almost a side character in her own show as the focus is primarily around Ginny, Ginny's friends, and Ginny's inappropriate relationship with her boyfriend. I would have liked to have seen Georgia's past put together more cohesively as I feel as if many of the flashbacks leave you craving more and trying to put the pieces together or making assumptions that end up being quite crucial to the plot. Overall, it is worth the watch (it is easier to move through the episodes when fast forwarding through the scenes of just Ginny with her friends or at school) and I may even categorize this as a "chick flick" in a sense.
Game Over, Man! (2018)
Decent watch
This kept our attention but was strange and quite, unexpectedly raunchy (several jokes and visuals of male anatomy). Story follows along as three "losers" save a hotel from a hostage situation in Die Hard fashion. The writing and acting were well done and the dialogue between the characters didn't seem too forced. Parts of it were stereotypical and predictable, but I did appreciate the "Kingsmen-esque" violence, and now it wasn't overdone. It was action packed and parts of it were funny, worth it to throw on late at night but my husband and I agreed that, if given the choice, we probably wouldn't watch it again.
Spirited (2022)
Predictable
Like a few other people mentioned, I really wanted to like this movie. It had an amazing cast so I was surprised it took the direction it did. It was overly predictable, full of poorly written "jokes", forced dialogue, and flat songs. I gave up about halfway through as it didn't keep my attention and this movie is quite long as well. It was an interesting take on "A Christmas carol" but I can't say it's truly worth the watch. I was hoping for a more "fresh" and invigorating take on a true classic and a musical seemed like a fun idea at first but none of those songs will become classics and there was far more singing than dialogue.
Elvis (2022)
Disjointed and confusing
Overall, I found this movie to be disappointing. Austin does a good job portraying Elvis and, even so, it was tough to get past the fact that he doesn't look like Elvis which I think took away from the film.
Several parts of Elvis's life and things that influenced his music were completely glossed over. If you didn't have prior knowledge of his life and his upbringing, you may find much of the film to be disjointed and confusing. Not enough attention to detail was put into any characters aside from the character played by Tom Hanks; it seems as if the director relied heavily on his audience having prior knowledge to Elvis's life and current events of the time. For example, had you not known he met Priscilla at such a young age, you'd have no idea who the girl he was talking to was and why she was around him so much later on in the film. His meeting of Priscilla is very inaccurate and Priscilla as a person is never really introduced beyond the fact that she's Elvis's wife. Other characters came in and out of the film without much characterization beyond a brief mention of their name and three minutes of screen time (and yet, there were supposed to be the people that heavily impacted Elvis's music and career). It's possible that it was targeted at an older audience who lived through the events such as the shooting of JFK and Dr. Martin Luther King, but for the average viewer, these events were nothing more than a mere mention in the grand scheme of the colonel's financial abuse.
It's tough to call this a "biopic" because while the fin was lengthy, it skipped major topics and did not paint a full picture of Elvis's life. It was still enjoyable to watch and, of course, there will never be another Elvis.
Grown·ish (2018)
It's for teens
While the best show, and it definitely has nothing on the original Black-ish, this is a show for older teens. The main themes in this show have "free form" written all over it and it seems as if a lot of these reviews aren't from the target audience. It's a coming of age show about a group of friends finding themselves in college. That being said, this show is incredibly political and most of the episodes are extremely, for lack of a better word, "woke". A group of culturally and sexually diverse friends go through typical college issues as well as dealing with race and politics. In the same way that a few of the original show "black-ish" were a bit much, this entire series is a bit much. I really enjoyed Zoe's character on the original show and I think she added a good deal to the family dynamic, however, in Grown-ish she is a very flat character without growth. As other reviewers have pointed out, the side characters are entertaining.
Encanto (2021)
Colorful and dull
This movie is colorful and cute. However as other reviewers noted, the songs are repetitive and similar. Although I do appreciate how the grandmother is not just the typical "wise and sweet" old woman and is somewhere the villain of the movie. Overall I didn't find there to be much story or plot or much of anything, this film is just brightly colored with lovely songs but doesn't have much content or much takeaway aside from your typical hallmark/Disney life lesson.
Jack (1996)
Cute, but dull and predictable
Cute movie and robin Williams does a great job portraying an aging 10 year old going on 40. However, many of the scenes are unnecessary and go on for too long. The dialogue is natural and flows ok, but some of it is unnecessary to characterization and the overall plot. Movie is quite predictably even though it is heartwarming in a way
Andi Mack (2017)
Overall cute, but lacking
Overall this show is very cute and tells a fun coming of age story of a girl who's world is flipped upside down when she learns her "mom" is her grandma and her estranged older "sister" is her actual mom. The story development stays close to family as she and her actual mom grow together. Throughout the series, she goes through typical preteen drama such as having a crush, figuring out what her strengths are, and learning to roll with the punches, so to speak.
Not a bad show, however I wish Disney would have taken it in a different direction. It is different than a lot of the tween shows that have graced the disney channel such as Hannah Montana, and that's so raven, to name a few. This is a more realistic and wholesome story that follows a character's journey growing up and navigating through high school. Very cute and easy to watch as the characters act (and dress) like real kids, and face circumstances that aren't out of the ordinary. The story is told from Andi's perspective so some things that seem small end up being a huge deal to her, and I think this is done quite well.
However, the acting is overdone and a lot of the dialogue seems forced or is just presented between the characters in a weird way. Although these kids act their age and a crush, for example, is a huge deal to them, the way things do or don't fall into place is heavily driven by the plot of the episodes and is circumstantial rather than realistic. Andi and her friends all speak in the same fashion, over-enunciating their words and syllables to the point where it seems cheesy and they all come off as bratty kids. Th same thing can be said about the adults in this series. They all speak in the same way, as if the character they've just spoken to has slapped them right across the face. The back and forth and minuscule/ irrelevant drama between the adult characters is very overdone and serves no other purpose than to fill empty space between scenes of the kids. I would have liked to have seen Disney take this show in a different direction as more of Andi relearning who she is through her mom rather than obsessing over a boy (she's 12....come on) however, the show is cute and worth the watch once you get past the way the dialogue is done and cheesy montage scenes.

Flashdance (1983)
Love this movie
I absolutely love this movie! It chronicles the story of a young women encouraging her friends to try and succeed (or fail) at their passions while she waits on the sideline for her big chance, afraid to take the plunge at her own dream.
Alex is a beautiful woman who works in a steel mill by day, but at night dances which is her true passion. She longs to be a professional dancer and pursue her dreams of being on stage but is too afraid to go out and get it. She is a loyal friend and encourages her pals to go out and give it their all while she stays stagnant.
In pure 80's fashion, the movie plot isn't a masterpiece (imagine how they remade footloose in the 2000's and it seemed odd and very out of place) but I find it to be genuine and kinda heartfelt as you root for Alex throughout the film and watch her pick up her friends to dust them back off so they can get "back on the horse" so to speak. I recommend this movie to everyone and anyone, although you have to keep in mind the timeframe in which is was made. It's a great movie...but it's not all that good.
Wizards of Waverly Place (2007)
I like it
I'm an adult in my 20's and I really enjoy watching this show. I think it's actually funny and cute. Granted it's a Disney show for kids so a lesson on being a better person, helping your family, etc is at the base of every episode. The use of magic in this show is very circumstantial and inconsistent for plot purposes which is irritating, but something a kid might not notice. I find the dialogue to be witty, even though as some people have mentioned, Selena Gomez's character, Alex, is just downright a mean and bratty individual.
The show centers around a family of wizards who own and operate a sand which shop in New York. The kids, varying ages, attend school and also regular wizard training to improve their powers with the ultimate goal of winning the "family wizard" title and being able to keep their powers upon adulthood. The kids get into some sticky situations, some involving beings from the wizarding world and some that a typical adolescent kid would face.
Community (2009)
I don't get it
Maybe I just done get this show. I gave it a go but I don't think it's funny. The characters are overly characterized so it does take some time to get accustomed to them and how they react to certain things. A bland show about an unlikely ragtag group of friends that meet while at a community college. Chevy chase's character is disgustingly rude and idiotic. Abed's character doesn't make sense to me, and the female leads are at varying levels of feminism. The only likable character on this show is the one played by Joel McHale and he's supposed to be the least like able person of the group. To me, the jokes fall flat and the writers try too hard to make them land. Like every other sitcom on tv, the characters get into some "shenanigans" which are predictably resolved with Joel McHale's character coming out in the lead as the Unofficial and weird father figure of the group. I don't find the show to be original or different and I was disappointed after several people spoke very highly of it
Dead to Me (2019)
It's ok
Honestly, it's ok. It's somewhat predictable and the characters are likable. The show will get your attention but since the two leads are women, there is A LOT of time dedicated to drinking wine and crying....A LOT. The circumstances are strange and enough to keep you wanting to watch it but the flashbacks the characters keep having become annoying and even more so as the story continues to unfold.
