Darby and Joan (2022)
Finding it delightful.
It is a welcome change from the usual mysteries of the Australian nature.
It is so nice not to be hearing the F_word all the time nor Christ and God as expletives. Nice that they can have a relationship not based on sex.
It is also nice to have the leads be older and wiser. Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi seem to have a personal depth of character themselves that is not always found in actors and actresses even if they are older.
Episode 6th. Hmm, could it be possible that the other "voice" in the taped conversation is the really killer and Joan is able to clear her husband's name; that he isn't the murderer.
Hope there is more than 1 season but hope the mystery of Ian is solved by the end of Season 1; however, maybe that will make it only a 1 season series.
It is so nice the show isn't caught up in all the "social issues" pushing and agenda and every show doesn't have to have a dead body to solve the murder.
It is an easy watch. Brown and Scacchi prove that "older" actors are still quite viable and interesting leads.
Harry Wild (2022)
Disappointing - had to comment after seeing the beginning of S1 eps 4
For we Americans who loved "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" there appears to be something off in Seymour's portrayal of Harry. Can't quite put my finger on it but it sure isn't her best and it appears she is trying to act rather than letting it flow. Maybe it is because she is coming off that ridiculous part in the B+ series in the States and she has not yet got the feeling for this part. Harry is certainly not her best work. There is something lacking in the portrayal of Harry by Seymour and in the writing of her character.
Maybe I should not blame Seymour but the writers of this series. Even though it is a clever idea to bring in literature connections (other series have done it with good results) the writing is not exceptional either.
The writers must be young and naive or older and lack some moral integrity to use the cliche of "my marriage is over" and to have a supposedly intelligent character falling for that ridiculous line to committee adultery. The writers also use the cliche that "we had a lot to drink" as if it excuses their adulterous behavior and that is how episode 4 opens. Quite off putting.
Was hoping the character of Harry had more integrity.
The best part of the show is how it ties the dastardly deeds into literary connections.
On a personal note I have always been a fan of Jane Seymour but even that might not be enough to get me to embrace this series. It is a just an OK series. One would have hoped for more. Disappointing in many ways.
