Primer (2004)
Okay but unnecessary complexity ruins it
It's not always about how much complex you make your movie but how simply you deliver it to your viewers. Carruth has developed a deep conceptual film with a limited budget and actors and that's fine but what bothers us are his weak storytelling and presentation of a snobby "scientific" attitude (something like- "you wanna understand it zero knowledge viewers? Okay learn relative Physics first!").
Creation of more than 5/6 variants and their obscure interaction, perplexing plot, deliberate hiding of what's actually happening (took me an half hour explanation video to get it) and many more are there...
I get it that you must watch this film couple of times, analyse it, probably take your time to study time loop, time delay, grandfather paradox, variant anomaly and other theories but come on- we aren't here to take a physics phd from MIT, we're here to be entertained. This movie is more complex even than Nolan's and deliberate complexity makes it much worse if not worst.
Life (2017)
Let Me Tell U Something...
1. First of all its a decent movie with enough suspense, jumpscare, environmental scare, creature horror and space-sci-fi touch. Not as per with Alien or Gravity, but its nowhere near as ordinary as critics think it to be.
2. Everyone calling it an Alien ripoff either are die hard Alien franchise fans or have zero idea what space/creature horror is. This antagonist, Calvin is totally different from Xenomorph except from that both are alien pathogenic species. Otherwise This Calvin has super instinct, cellular level consciousness and most importantly using pure muscle tissue to create havoc is quite exceptional.
3. The camera work is extraordinary, you will get a thrilling ride inside a space station, also they maintained all the scientific logical details.
4. Actors gave their best, I will say specially Jack Gyllenhaal and Ariyon Bakare. Others also deserve praise.
5. Last of all, all the 5/6/7 ratings are sheer disgrace guys. This is a creature with the brain of Predator, with the defense of Alien and with the biology of Thing. You just can't low rate it just because it looks like an Alien film. We are here to watch, enjoy, thrill, bite our nail in intense moments, not to judge or over-critcize like old folks.
Give it a try. You won't regret.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Just watch it, then decide
So many wannabe critics here with their Judgmental outlooks. I'll just say, watch it. Then decide. Its an entertaining movie, with stunning visuals and a nice story, not the best, but it works. Not a 10/10 movie, but not a 1-6 either. Got a nostalgic Alien vibe here. Also the day after tomorrow. A perfect movie for scifi lovers. Give it a shot, u won't regret.
Krishna and His Leela (2020)
Targeting Hindu sentiment cause it's easy
Specially from late couple of years targeting Hinduism and it's culture became a common occurance. I don't know what fun they get or what goal they achieve by violating Hindu sentiment. I feel a great loathe, also sympathy for the artists who have gone down so much that now they've to defame their culture to earn money. I pity you.
Miasto 44 (2014)
A recreation of 1944 bloodbath
Mass murdered bodies scene, Protagonist's family killing scene, The blood rain, the alone girl in front of a tank scene, sewerage scene, hospital scene with the dead baby, the unknown fate of the female protagonist, the lovers suicide scene, Stabbing scene - how much do you want? This movie is all about blood and gore and devastation, and yet what depresses us most is that these all actually happened in real time. The truth is sometimes so heavy to carry.
I don't know modern Polish generation knows this history at what extant but this is a bold forward step by the director.
I am from Bangladesh, we faced similar genocide in 1971 and can therefore feel what it's like to lose. What it's like.
Give it a try. You won't regret it that much. There are a few cringe scenes but those are 'few'.
Platoon (1986)
Another overrated garbage
This movie is all perfect for 1980s, no problem. But if you call it a masterpiece now, that will be a big lie. No plot, no good acting, no character development, not a single good fighting scene, the whole war is represented very poorly. Nothing special. A time waste.
