El hoyo (2019)
The Platform delves into our very own darkness, but bites more than it can chew.
The movie managed to keep me in the story for the whole hour and a half, and yet it ends as no emotional surprise or suffering. It doesn't hurt and it must.
I don't think it was ready for its own subtext or ending, trying to be Bong-Joon-ho but not quite.
A good film from which I expected something more than that, although it remains in good place for me. Awesome premise.
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Give old Rob a try again. He is not as they told us.
Rob Zombie has a lot of detractors, but he is one of the few current horror directors that can bring the same disgust to the screen as Tobe Hooper's The Chainsaw Massacre.
That can only mean good.
An American Crime (2007)
An American Crime breaks half your bones. Then hugs you, just to 1 min after, break the other half.
The chain of frustration. You put it on the weak, on the ones who actually treat you well, on who you can. But others put it there, those you cannot touch. Finally, innocents take all the pain.
Contratiempo (2016)
The ratings of this movie are a big bluff. I'm sorry.
"The Invisible Guest" doesn't live up to most good detective/lawyer movies at all. For better or for worse, there's much more and better out there. This is not a good thriller, it isn't even a good Spanish thriller (for more on that go watch "La isla mínima", "El hombre de las mil caras" or "El reino").
You can see its main weaknesses in the first few minutes: boring protagonists without an inch of life and a non-existent tension. From this point, it was difficult to climb up, however, the plot gets here throwing a little bit of light.
The film takes too long to actually happen until it starts to twist the story, due to its failing at creating any kind of "time is running out" feeling or danger. It feels as if the interview has all the time in the world and her stopwatch is just a lousy magician's trick. I would highlight nontheless the different paths the plot goes throughout the end of the film, that's the most interesting and thrilling part. Although the final twist is set like a big jump the film wasn't prepared for.
