Karen Pirie (2022)
Not the usual compelling Val McDermid story and characters
There could have been some interesting characters here that I would want to follow in the series. Unfortunately, this is standard pc stuff: straight white men are the villains in one way or another and everyone else is their victim. Additionally, this could have been shortened to a movie and strung out over three episodes. Each episode was puffed with melodramatic red herrings related too the crime as well as a few bits occasionally designed to full out Karen's character. Wow, she's smart, feisty, and brave in a man's job. Gosh, what a breath of fresh air.
I'm other words, the rush to get all of the acceptable social memes/caricatures on film truly detracted from what might have been an interesting story.
Billions (2016)
Love Lewis and Giamatti, but...
This thing is devolving into a self-righteous social justice preach.
Just an observation: why are the men so ordinary looking and if all she's, but the women are young, perfectly-coiffed, and, inexplicably, able to sit down in laughably tight clothes? Great role models.
Birds of Paradise (2021)
Costume drama...?
Lots of costumes, but no drama, cohesion, or anything else that might make me care about any of these self-obessed, pathetic characters.
Premonition (2007)
Pretty entertaining right up until...
...the stupid, cop-out ending. I still feel cheated (and I didn't have very high expectations to begin with.))
Loudermilk (2017)
Season 3 - Tragedy strikes
Seasons 1 and 2 were quite entertaining, focusing on the individuals and their stories. Then they got woke in Season 3 and climbed up on every soapbox in existence. I don't need to be preached to from a sitcom. I love Ron Livingston and it's been a pleasure watching him, but I'm done.
The New York Times Presents: Controlling Britney Spears (2021)
Thin. Hardly investigative journalism
This is really only for BS fans to see more images of their idol. I expected journalism, not Entertainment Tonight.
I'll wait for the WSJ to investigate the story.
QI (2003)
Bring back Stephen Fry
Ten stars for episodes hosted by Stephen Fry. Five stars for the others...too bad.
Ballers (2015)
Degrading stereotypes all around
Serious attempts to address real issues are crowded out.
How did The Rock involve himself in this?
Young Rock (2021)
Charming
Laugh-out-loud, sweet, and highly entertaining. No one but The Rock could pull this off.
