Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers (2024)
Disappointing
I looked forward to this group of Hallmark movies. I was so disappointed to see them ignoring historical truths of the time. I don't think different races mixed in higher social settings.
The clothes didn't fit right and were of the wrong fabric. Baggy full length gloves , baggy bodices, even the men's jackets and shirts were baggy.
The female hairstyles had curls dangling onto the face. In this time, hair was put up and didn't usually have curls hanging on the face. If curls were present, the were next to the ears, not in face.
Houses could have been wonderful but instead looked cheap and had the wrong floor coverings.
The plot wasn't bad but the directing and production aspects left it wanting.
I think these mysteries have big potential but can't be done on the "cheap".
Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)
Like visiting "family"... so comforting
I've missed Downton Abbey, and this movie was a wonderful balm for my aching heart. Some happiness, some sadness, and always a great story and amazing acting! Just left the theater 2 hours ago, and ready to go back and see it again and again... Keep writing these, Mr. Fellowes, and I'll keep coming to see them... LOVED IT!
Artemis Fowl (2020)
I haven't had that much fun in a long time! Great movie.
I am not a Sci-fi or fantasy fan, but this movie captured me at the beginning and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Already watched it again! I never read the book, so no comparisons for me. Just a lot of fun, lovely scenery and action/adventure. I hope they make more of Artemis Fowl movies!
Book Club (2018)
Lots of funniness
I enjoyed the humor of this movie, and wish the stars hadn't ruined it with that awful book. Had I known that book was featured, I doubt I would have wanted to see the movie, at all.
The Irish R.M. (1983)
Enjoyable! This series offers a lot of entertainment.
I spent a lovely St. Patrick's Day watching this series. The music, scenery, houses, and costumes are all very pretty. I loved the Irish music that's scattered throughout the episodes. Hearing the speech of the day was fun, too. The stories are pleasant and fun, and give a bit of insight into the issues and how such matters were dealt with at that time. It's got humerus points, poignant moments, and some outright sadness, but overall is a delightful way to spend time. One can escape to a time when things were easier.
Murdoch Mysteries: 8 Footsteps (2017)
Delightful!
So great to see Colin Mochrie on Murdoch Mysteries! He adds a nice touch. Hope to see him in future episodes. The LOOKS on his face!
MacGyver (2016)
Was great till.....
When this show premiered, I looked forward to the fun, action-adventure show every week. Then they added Ms. Eaton, and I am finding it very difficult to watch. I don't enjoy her in this role, on this show. I find her distracting, and her voice grating like nails on a chalkboard. I still watch, but it's with considerably less enthusiasm than before, and if I get up during the show for some reason, I don't particularly care about the part I'm missing. I am apparently in the minority on Ms. Eaton, so I will likely just give up on watching and save myself the heartburn. Sigh. Another good show, gone.
I don't need it to be the MacGyver of Richard Dean Anderson... it was fun. Now it's not.
Wonder Woman (2017)
OK stand-alone movie, not about the Wonder Woman I knew
I grew up reading Wonder Woman comics. This movie doesn't seem to represent much of "that" Wonder Woman. That part is disappointing. It's a good, action-adventure/fantasy flick. I didn't find it all that slow, as others have said, but the major deviations in the Wonder Woman of the comic books threw me off and kept me from enjoying the movie as much as I'd expected. If I'd never heard of Wonder Woman, I might have enjoyed it more.
The Christmas Wish (1998)
One of my all-time favorite Christmas movies...
Debbie Reynolds and Neil Patrick Harris make this show wonderful. The plot and the way it plays out was new and different and really touched me, deeply, having lost all my own parents and grandparents. I can imagine being in the role of the son/grandson and wanting to know...
The twists and turns as he searches for the needed information from the journals was beautifully thought out. A great story, for all generations to enjoy, together, as a family... It speaks of family bonds and things more important than the almighty dollar.
The very believable performances by Neil Patrick Harris and Debbie Reynolds as grandson and grandma put this movie in my top 5 favorites.
I watch this every time I can catch it on TV.
