Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Maverick was a bit too much
They amped up Pete 'Maverick' too much in my opinion. Some people might be attracted to the 'rules do not apply to me' character, but I guess I am not one of them. Some of the things that he got away with seemed a bit absurd from my perspective
They had so many plot holes in the story. Like how did he survive blowing up the plane in the beginning. How can Pete 'Maverick' pull another soldier's papers? I have heard the theory that it was because he knew iceman. Even if he pull his paper's, how did Rooster know that it was Pete who pulled his papers.
The fact that they sent them out on the mission and none of them passed the simulation course training was weird. Yet when they actually flew the mission, they succeeded.
Furthermore, Maverick steals a plane and did the simulation course in record time. Instead of reprimanding him for stealing the plane, they promote him to team captain?
There were other plot holes like how did Rooster's mom die?
I felt it was not a great plot. There were a lot of the same old school movie cliché like Maverick having a love interest.
I appreciate they used real planes and avoided unneeded CGI to give it a realistic experience, but I wouldn't give it the same rating everyone else did.
Critical Thinking (2020)
Feelgood story of kids stepping up to the challenge
Movies like this remind you not to let your background determine your future. Life gives you disadvantages, but you can choose to move forward in spite of them or let them overcome you. Learning to channel your energies into something productive versus unproductive is important. Acting and scenarios are realistic. Nothing seemed forced or exaggerated.
Infidel (2019)
Action sprinkled with some wit
Having an action movie based on religion can stir some controversy, but this movie navigated between the situation well. The acting is believable and the plot is well thought out. I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters as the wife desperately tries to rescue her husband. The tension between societies come off as understandable. I would watch again.
