The Night Manager (2023)
Pales in comparison to the UK adaptation of the book!
I don't think the Indian film industry has even one actor with the mettle to be comparable to Hugh Laurie. This fact spoiled the show for me since the start, since the UK version was so very well carried on Hugh's able shoulders. For the role of Richard Onslow Roper or Shailendra Rungta, you need someone who could charm, intimidate, and disgust you at the same time, and there is nobody better than Hugh for this tough job.
The other actors have managed to do some justice to their parts.
The dialogues and direction could have used some improvement.
All in all, a good watch for one time.
Didn't understand why they needed to make the audiences wait for the conclusion till June when the episodes have apparently been already shot.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
Watch this for Pratik Gandhi- a star is discovered!
I could not find a single fault in this series. The script, the screenplay, the casting, the acting, the direction, the pace- all perfect!
This is the first Hindi show I have watched in a decade. Everything matches Hollywood standards!
But what stands out the most is the genius of an actor, Pratik Gandhi!
I am so thankful to Hansal Mehta for discovering such talent and bringing it into the mainstream.
I watched all of Pratik's Gujarati movies after I finished the series and rediscovered my love and respect for my roots! Pratik has carefully selected all of his previous scripts and gotten into the skin of every character he has played while making sure that he brings something new and different to the table every single time with his projects!
Also have to give a shout out to Jaimini Pathak, Hemant Kher, Jay Upadhyay for the stellar acting!
Take a bow y'all! This series and its actors are going to go down in history!
Saul fia (2015)
Just plain and simple BAD!
A sensitive topic like the Shoah needs to be dealt with carefully, since a film based on it is not only an artistic expression but it also serves to chronicle the facts and educate the masses; it is a huge responsibility on the shoulders of everyone involved in the making of the film.
Instead of realizing this, the director has chosen to simply concentrate on a direction style that presumably seems new and different to him.
Very little dialogue, bad cinematography with a greater part of the film only showing the back of Saul's head as he runs around and the camera jerks around with him, the background blurred- all just serve to attempt to dilute the unspeakable horrors of the Shoah instead of trying to portray the facts accurately but sensitively.
This movie has been inevitably compared to The Grey Zone and I'd recommend the latter to the former any day even though it contains some exaggerations like the Sonderkommandos being given proper feasts everyday! It still does a much better job of explaining the background and can be watched even by people who have no prior in depth knowledge of the Shoah!
In conclusion, you're better off NOT wasting time over this movie!
