The Tudors (2007–2010)

Unforgivable, especially considering the subject matter
22 April 2007
I understand that Showtime is trying to "sex up" Henry VIII, and they've done a good job with that. However, it's difficult to sustain disbelief with the liberties they take with the known facts, but that should not matter either if the portrayal is well done. What is unforgivable is that they've taken an absolutely fascinating subject and a fascinating character and made them both BORING. It seems impossible, but Showtime managed it. Jon Rhys Meyers is very handsome and a good actor, but he is hopelessly miscast in this series, as is Sam Neill. This entire effort can safely be chalked up to "a swing and a miss."

Love Actually (2003)

Lovely, sweet holiday movie
12 October 2005
For what it is, Love Actually is a perfect movie. I personally never see movies at the theater, since they're a complete and total ripoff. I saw this one simply because I had a coupon and I'm grateful that I did. At the holidays, some of us need to see a sweet, unrealistic, feel good movie and this is the ultimate sweet movie for me. I'm hardly a romantic. Maybe it's the fact that it's made by the guys from Blackadder, but it really hit a spot with me. It's cheesy and unrealistic, but damn if this isn't one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in ages. I'm an automatic fan of Bill Nighy after seeing this movie. I've heard the phrase "scene-stealer," but never really understood it until seeing this guy in action. All in all, this is not a great movie. It is, however, one of the sweetest feel-good movies I've ever seen, and this is coming from someone who HATES feel-good movies.

Showgirls (1995)

This is the greatest movie ever made!
19 October 2003
I have to watch this movie once a week or I have withdrawals. A lot of people watch it ironically, for the cheesy dancing, bad acting, dolphin sex scene or what have you, but not me. I truly love this flick. I cannot think of another movie in the last several years that was this entertaining. Since this cinematic masterpiece, I have become completely dedicated to Gina Gershon and support her in whatever she's in, simply out of gratitude for this movie. Don't listen to the naysayers! This is seriously one of the greatest movies of all time!

One of the funniest movies I've seen in ages
11 October 2003
Don't expect Academy-worthy cinema, but this is seriously one of my favorite movies of all time. Everyone in my office has watched it and we quote it incessantly. The plot is stupid, the acting is awful, but damn if they don't do some funny stuff.

The nihilist guide to life
19 September 2003
I saw this movie in theaters when I was an undergrad in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn's a great school; it's just in an unfortunate location.

Anyway, this is one of the few great movies I was allowed to see there. Lord knows they didn't allow many cool movies in town. This movie can be enjoyed on so many levels - as a sociopolitical commentary on the supposedly nonexistent state of class in the American society - or as just a damn funny movie. Oh, and Asia Carrera, the most awesome woman on the planet, is featured, albeit briefly.

I'm a big movie buff, and this one is definitely in my top 10.

Silly, but stomach achingly funny

The plot is uneven and there are some loose ends, but when this movie hits, it hits hard. Many of the lines in this movie have become a staples in my vocabulary and that of my friends and co-workers. I can't wait to see the next project from Broken Lizard!

Eh, it's ok.

Lucky me, I got the one with the easter egg that shows Bam and Jenn going at it. She has the worst implants I've ever seen in my life. Other than that, it wasn't bad. I much prefer the others though, back before they had a budget. It was more spontaneous and fun then. Now, it's all about Bam's ego.

Terrible.

I am the most die-hard Blackadder fan around, and I couldn't get all the way through this one. Granted, a bad Blackadder is better than 99% of what's on TV, but this was not up to Blackadder standards. It had it's moments, but in general, I'd recommend skipping this one and breaking out the older episodes.

Fast-paced, original, funny and very, very sexy
19 April 2002
I rented this movie on a whim and the second it was over, my boyfriend was online ordering it. It's a ball-busting kickass movie from beginning to end with wonderful acting from all those involved.

Absolute garbage. Comparable to a 13-year-old playing with fake blood.

Even if Gregg Araki didn't try so hard to be profound, his movie would still be horrible. After hearing "666" for the fourth time, it's tempting to scream, "I get it! I'll acknowledge your irony if it will mean you'll stop beating me over the head with it!" Araki's 5th rate script could have possibly been saved if he had at least hired 5th rate actors. Rose McGowan has about as much animation as a paper doll. It's almost painful to watch her act; as if you want to finish her sentences for her to save her the trouble. I'm still not convinced that James Duval is an actor. I think he's some kind of mannequin brought to life by amateur puppeteers. Johnathan Schaech is the only saving grace in this festering pile of garbage. His talent was completely wasted. Whomever gave Gregg Araki any kind of budget deserves to be shot. Hard-core criminals should be forced to read his writing as punishment.
