Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Let us prey
Strange to hear Harley Quinn in Peter Rabbit. Anyway I do not know much about Harley Quinn, but this was one of the most hyped movies last Winner. We had many villain movies for decades, and now it is Harley Quinn going all out. Last year had a ton of good movies, but this Harley Quinn movie is like background noise to me. Stream this when you want 2 hours of classic fun DC action.
Suicide Squad (2016)
I´m a Joker
Another late summer and another Suicide Squad. I am no big DC comic reader but of course as a kid like many I loved caped crusaders on the screens and comic form. Like many modern movies we look at the bad guys, as things takes a very dark turn. This is about Harley Quinn and her gang up to no good. It is rare that DC comic movies wins Oscars, but this won. A must see especially on a grown up Hallowen night.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)
Future Nostalgia
Mario Kart continues in this Switch game. You get lot of new faces, music, places and vehicles and more. But, also a lot of nostalgia with new versions old tracks like Baby Park, and a Zelda track so here is something for all. A must have if you love racing games.
Enchanted (2007)
New York New York
Frozen way before it was cool. Old school Disney meets modern NYC in this fairytale about a princess going through a portal with the evil queen behind. Clever idea, but this is a forgotten masterpiece as classic Xmas release movies like Harry Potter and the Phoenix Order overshadowed this. Dust off your old DVD player and insert Enchanted if you and your friends have 2 hours to spare, as there is enough fantasy lore fun for the guys too. Now let us wait for Disenchanted.
Spirit Untamed (2021)
Horsey hives
2000s was the year of cartoons with slapstick, pop references and talking animals, 2010s was the year of superheroes as 2020s so far is about southern European themed, dragon and horse themed Western movies and shows. Spirit is back and this time Spirit and his friends must save his family. Some fans might not like the missing of Bryan Adams, Rain and Spirits inner voice. But you get some nice CGI animated wallpaper backgrounds.
Jellystone (2021)
I am jelly!
I had seen Jellystone being mentioned in a 2021 cartoon highlights on Youtube on New Years Eve, and this was worth the wait. I am not American so I was surprised to see Banana Splits having a big role. This is like a looney Avengers with Hannah Barbara cartoons with modern gadgets, and there are something for all. If you have few minutes to spare and want some innocent cartoon fun stream this.
Arthur (1996)
Bye Bye Arthur
With Arthur ending this late summer Weekend let us look back at this classic cartoon. You have Arthur, his friends, his family and foes. Unlike classics like Rescue Rangers where it is mostly fun and games this have heavy morals and subjects that made Youtube and DeviantArt reviewers go crazy. This is good for families from the VHS generation that like more mature cartoons like Animals of Farthiong Wood.
Mighty Mike (2019)
Mike!
This is no groundbreaking cartoon TV show but something fun for the whole family to stream with a pug and his animal friends. Also nice CGI for a lesser talked about cartoon but of course no Frozen 2 style.
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)
Born 2 N Alive
If you have a day in the Weekend to spare with over and hour of fun gore to spare stream this or watch the DVD as the Earth just had it´s worst Covid times. There is no cabin this time, and in this a group sick young is locked inside under an high school dance, as Cabin Fever 3 awaits. If you love low budget horror on Amazon and the end of 1970s music do not miss this.
Moominvalley (2019)
Future Nostalgia
Based on decade old comics, shows and books from way up North Moomins it is. Asia and Europe was certainly flooding the cartoon market last decade. We follow a long row of fantasy creatures known as Moomins in their remote adventure forests. I just rented the DVD in the nearby library and it´s a shame the English dub is not included but at least there are Sami language to make it more weird. If you want your kids to watch more than Peppa Pig or Paw Patrol all the time stream Moominvalley 2019.
UglyDolls (2019)
Buy our toys!
2019 was an great year for animation as we got cartoons like Corn & Peg, 101 Dalmatians Streets and UglyDolls. UglyDolls based on the toy lines is not the must see of 2019, but you get an all star 2000s cast like Pit Bull as himself. This is also the plot of Toy Story 3 with toys nearly burned as a climax. We all had to see Avengers Infinity War and Toy Story 4 that summer so UglyDolls was in the background. Stream this if you want an 1 hour of colorful fun with your whole family.
Frozen II (2019)
Frozen North
And so the long guessing games from TV Tropes are long over for Frozen 2. Cinema and TV said goodbye to many classic 2010 franchises like Avengers and Friendship is Magic, as Frozen 3 and more Frozen shorts and specials may be long out in the future thanks to the epic toy sales. Now Frozen 2 is back with more emotions, songs, creatures, fun and other worldly places than before so here is something for kids to grown men that loves old school fantasy movies. We all seen this save nature cliche things like it like in Avatar and FernGully, but this is a must see.
The Fear Footage: 3AM (2021)
No Fear!
It is hard to top Blair Witch Project, but some handheld horror movies gets a row of sequels and cult follows these days like Fear Footage. This time a man ends up in the home of Youtuber Dan Bell and the Blair Witch with haunted portals in remote forests and many retro callbacks. Not the movie of the year so far, but a one hour break from the many over 2 hour long epic movies with an overload of VXF the last 2 years.
Opowiadania Muminków (1977)
Flashback
Surprised to see few reviews here. This was part of a controversial Danish Xmas show back then in 1980. This is classic Moomins with the well known intro, and based on the many books by Tove Jansson. If you have loved Moomins for decades, or love foreign TV shows outside of UK and US try to find this end of 70s Moomins on DVD.
Space Jam (1996)
I can fly!
With Space Jam 2 as a summer Holiday hype let us look back at the first one from 1996. Michael Jordan and his team and all stars cartoons plays basketballs against aliens. No Oscars but the soundtrack got a bestseller, as Lola Bunny got tons of naughty art. If you and your family wants an 90s night get this on VHS at the market.
Hook (1991)
Bangerang!
20 years ago this live action version of Hook was out, and it was a hit but forgotten until deadmu6 released Banerang and NC made the Hook review few years ago. You can see all the pain in making of the film from vintage Xmas London to the always summer Neverland, and of course Hook. Many live action versions of Disney classics and rides failed like Tomorrowland, made it to the middle like Hook or became hits like Pirates of the Caribbean as rows of live action versions of Disney classics awaits this decade every summer.
One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)
50 years of 101 Dalmatians
In this movie we follow Pongo, Pedirta and their 101 Dalmatians and many more including scene stealing Cruella DeVille. The animation is stunning with all the spots, the London and suburb backgrounds and Cruellas expressions. 101 Dalmatians did not win any Oscars or Globes, but rows and rows of 101 toys and spinoffs followed including Cruella this summer while cinemas opens again, as firefighting Dalmatians are all the rage today with Paw Patrol. No 60s masterpiece, but find this in the bargain bin on VHS if you and your family praises vintage Disney.
Eurovision Song Contest Tel Aviv 2019 (2019)
Insert coins, Arcade
Moments before disaster that was 2020. Once again in May ESC comes again and ESC are famous in the gay community. You have radio friendly pop from Germany, Frenchy pop from France, folk music blend with electro from Norway and Azerbaijan and lots of things fans miss like the orchestra and Turkey who quit in 2013. Have a lot of food, drinks and candy ready as this is over 3 hours if you want to watch it all on one go in Youtube.
Eurovision Song Contest Rotterdam 2021 (2021)
It came back
After a year without ESC we are back. This is not the 1st time ESC got lost, as ESC reels got lost decades ago and was not found. You have funny songs like the German ones, serious songs from Italy and Bulgaria, ethnic songs from countries like Azerbaijan, a Hoodwinked like roller coaster song from Ukraine and an 80s like tune from Denmark. That all came out in the National Finals in the Winter so here is something for everyone. With of course covid, battles in the Middle East and loss of festivals across the globe you get 3 hours of mindless entertainment with surprising all stars as guests like Lordi. Now go watch this competition on Youtube, or the many reacts to ESC 2021 songs as the National Finals hype begins this Xmas and that´s a long but worth wait.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Venom!
This is the movie where the downfall of the Spider Man universe fell apart for old fans until the 2018 epic cartoon. I am no die hard Marvel fan, but I see a little bit going on too much at a time. At least we get Venom a classic villain will get a lot of screen time at the start of this decade. Not the biggest superhero movie in the universe, but good for a DVD or Blu Ray watch to release your inner boy back in better times far from our co vid times in 2 hours.
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Big, Big
Shame to see this movie winning no Oscars, but at least an Berlinale award. As spoofed in MLP this is a movie about bowling and it is rare to see a bowling movie. Not a movie for all as there a deep Cohen philosophy. Everyone loves 1990s throwbacks and bowl on console or real life, especially a crowd of dudes so if you have nothing do get this on VHS.
She Walks the Woods (2019)
A Forest
Some friends go into the forest to make a documentary, but only to get killed by a monster. Not the best of 2019, and you get all the camera ad placements and endless rows of handheld horror recommends on Amazon with a lot of bad in between. But, if you and your friends are camera and handheld horror geeks and nerds give this a streaming on a boring day.
Pocahontas (1995)
Downfall
After the smash hit of The Lion King, Pocahontas based on real events about English settlers meeting the Natives was out on opening night in Central Park to a very large crowd as seen on Animats Disney story. The animation is in style of Atlantis and Home on the Range. There are some funny sidekick moments to lift up the heavy tone and some songs like Colors of the Wind that became a hit thanks to the teaser in TLK. But the 1990s had many cartoons loosing at the Box Office like Pocahontas. Grown men will love Pocahontas too as there are a lot of action, so find this on DVD ot VHS at the markets. No TLK hit, but a close cigar.
Peppa Pig (2004)
And so it began
In 2004 a cult cartoon was created, and it was Peppa Pig with short episodes that became spoofed million times on Youtube. Some lessons with lesser budget animation, and episodes made for kindergartens about spiders, a visit from down under, a Xmas play and of course stomping in the mud so here is something for all. Peppa Pig was made to sell millions of toys, so prepare to say here, take all my money in the local malls and toy stores with your whole family.
Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom (2009)
Bug
I always confuse this with Danish Ben & Tan from Eurovision 2020. In a long stream of streaming for modern kids Ben & Holly is a must see. It has fairies, elves bugs and charm. A model for kids to sell toys, and nerdy young people and adults who loves magic kingdoms and lore to watch on Youtube and stream.
