Human Resources (2021)
Bland, boring and mind numbing
Don't bother unless you want to fall asleep fast. Any of the 10/10 reviews were done by the director and his family/friends.
The premise had promise, however with the lackluster performance of the lead, the shoddy filming and the far too guessable plot, let's this film down. One of the most annoying parts of this movie was that the characters were so boring that they might have well been played by mannequins, at least then the "character development" choices (ie the lead's constant "anxiety") would not have been present.
If you want a not great but fun retail horror film, watch Black Friday or something similar, as they will at the very least be entertaining.
They/Them (2022)
Gay Horror, but not how you expect.
Last night my husband and I watched They/Them. I have mixed feelings about it however it is definitely worth the watch. One thing that really stuck out for me was the realistic queer-horror of being treated as lesser than or wrong for being yourself. I'm fortunate that the vast majority of my family has always been supportive of me, but I know far too many people who have been treated terribly after they came out as anything other than Cisgender and/or Heteronormative.
I can see why many critics and viewers alike have been hating on it, but I think a large majority of them are looking the "literal horror" aspect of the film because they aren't part of the LGBTQ+ community and therefore don't recognize how terrifying the bigotry aspect is. The summer camp slasher vibes are not as good as they should have been and felt entirely too rushed, but if you have a spare couple hours and a Peacock subscription I think it's worth the watch. Just know that it is triggering and there are parts that, if you have anxiety issues, will make you anxiety go a bit crazy. All and all, I give it a solid 6/10.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Wonderful
This is everything I've been wanting in all these superhero movies, it's hopeful, dynamic and layered. It's not a total cgi-geared film and I love it for that.
