The Zone of Interest (2023)
A different view about Holocaust
If what you are expecting is a movie that talks about the atrocities of World War II, this is not the movie, as the movie doesn't show any of the horrors that occurred, but rather shows how the people who committed such horrors where living peacefully. The movie focus on the perspective of the perpetrators by humanizing individuals. Also uses dark humor and stylistic flourishes to detract from the gravity of the subject matter.
However the nonlinear narrative structure may prove confusing for some viewers, diminishing the emotional resonance of certain scenes.
Additionally, the film uses silences and screens with colors to create sensations for the viewer.
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)
A deep story about aging and sexuality
This film has two great actors who provide a great performance and brilliant connection.
All the movie is set in a hotel room with Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack as the center of the story.
Its about a woman who, after her husband dies, wants to have an orgasm, so she hires a young guy for it but this meeting ends up becoming something occasional where they can get to know each other in a deeper way.
It is a great film that reflects on the sexuality of women from the 60s, the insecurities generated by age and the body, the relationship between mothers and children and the different sexual, needs and desires of each human being.
She Said (2022)
NY Times article about Harveh Weinstein
It tells the story of 2017, when the #metoo movement began to emerge as a result of an article talking about sexual abuse in the film industry and how misconduct is hidden, focusing on the case against Harvey Weinstein. They have the performance of actresses who denounced such abuses such as Ashley Judd.
It has great cast with Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan as central roles.
The story is quite interesting, although it is true that it has parts where it is more about legal issues than testimonials from the womans. I expected more a version focusing on the testimonies and what happened after the NY Times article was brought to light, when more women joined the allegations.
Youth (2015)
The soundtrack is fantastic
It took me a long time to start this movie because I thought it was going to be quite boring, but the truth is that it is a great movie that deals with aging and how to feel alive again.
Brilliant performance by Michael Cane and Rachel Weisz, in general the cast is wonderful.
Senior Year (2022)
An absurdist comedy
The movie has rebel wilson as the protagonist where she makes a great comedy, although the movie is boring and absurd at some points. The ending is the best part.
Unbroken: Path to Redemption (2018)
A linear movie
Much worse than the first movie and somewhat boring. The plot is quite linear. The cast isn't the same from the first movie. Not a very interesting movie, however the ending is quite inspiring.
Stay Close (2021)
An unexpected end
It has a lot of parallel stories, so it becomes a bit confusing to follow the plot. The series is very interesting, although at some points it becomes heavy. Although the ending is totally unexpected.
8-Bit Christmas (2021)
Ok for a Sunday movie!!
The plot takes place quite slowly, it is somewhat boring and takes too many turn to tell the important part of the story.
The ending is the best part of the movie as well as being suitable for a Christmas movie.
Cats (2019)
Not as bad as critics
I really don't understand the bad critics that the film has. I haven't seen the musical. However, it seems a film that aspired too much but that is not a bad at all. It has a great cast, the songs are fabulous, except for one song that sounds a bit strange, the rest of the songs are very well interpreted.
The opening part of the film is somewhat slow and boring, but then it improves. Jennifer Hudson's performance is sublime.
