The Babadook (2014)
9/10
Instant classic
1 February 2024
The movie may have an IMDB rating under 7, but let thar not deceive you. This work of art has succeeded in many achievements which few other films of the same overrated and saturated genre that is called horror have accomplished. I am an avid horror viewer, but not a connoisseur. From this humble perspective, this film provided me with sentiments I did not think I could feel from a horror movie including a peculiar feeling of chills, not like one you would expect from an epic finale or extreme terror but probably the perfect mix of both grounded by the realism of the movie. Just like Amelia, the viewer is conflicted on how to feel about things that are happening. The Babadook is a children's story about a haunting monster that starts manifesting into reality. When the line between reality and fiction is crossed, denial is futile and the only solution is to see and accepg life as it is.

Modernized alien
10 November 2023
This movie is basically a modern alien, i think it's pretty good for a fan of the genre but i did not like it overall as a movie. The plot was way too predictable but that's not because of bad writing or dumb characters, in fact i think the characters made best decisions available to them from their perspective. It's because the tone is set right from the cover poster that this looks like a doom ending type of movie, in order to set itself apart from the original alien movies with ripley. Because truly the only thing that separates it is that this alien is an existential threat to humanity. Overall a good movie and i found myself entertained and hooked despite being very positive that it was gonna end how it ended.

So do not watch in english dub
4 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is one of the simplest yet also most moving ive ever seen. Everything in the plot is pretty much obvious. The audience expects, almost wants, something to go bad so that the happiness hits harder but yet again this film gets away with just filling you with joy in simplifying the one "antagonist" into an allergy reaction and the other never seen again. The low lows of this movie dont really exist and the high highs get topped off each time. One of the most innocent and soulful movies out there. So i chose to watch this when i was in a very specific mood and needed something natural and happy, i believe i wouldve rated it worse otherwise. Definitely watch this in the original voice as well, it is a ton worse with english dub. The dub isnt a failure; it's merely that the movie doesnt feel nearly as emotional.

Warning: Spoilers
I want to start off saying that there is sexualization and awkward dialogue for no reason. This movie would have been cancelled with today's society. The action scenes are scarce for an action movie, and they're nothing but just OK anyways. There are some stupid mistakes in there as well. Such as in the last one where there are snipers in the living room but these must be some forgetful snipers because they don't exist after the camera change when leon and mathilda move to another room.

I watched this movie expecting it to be as good as they say, but i had a gut feeling that it would be a typical unmoving disappointment. Overall bad movie, not worth the time.

Too "realistic" for a zombie film
3 October 2022
This is a very moody film that asks the viewers to be completely immersed and have nothing else on their minds for the rest of the day. The reason is that it is so slow and generally boring that you may realize that it is indeed a waste of time (it frankly is), and maybe even fall asleep to the constant ambient music. The only thing keeping a sleepy person awake is the occassional gunshot or loud noise.

You are given pretty much nothing regarding how the outbreak happened, what the government is up to, what the world is up to, nothing. The whole transition happens in a camera cut. This may leave curious viewers unsatisfied but personally I liked this approach. It simplifies the film to what we should really care about (the main character), and that is because the film is so hopeless that nothing else will truly matter anyway.

I will give it an 8 for going for such a demanding film and hitting all the points needed for it to be actually good. These points are: the main character's acting (who is pretty much the only character that you watch for longer than 5 minutes) is on point, the music is well picked, the zombies aren't ridiculously smart nor extremely stupid, and simply the mood of the film. It is the best part that ties it all together.

Excellent piece for a specific audience. If you've watched #ALIVE and want more of that vibe (only with a lot less action and general zombie foolishness), then this is an interesting sidegrade.

Elden Ring (2022 Video Game)

Game of the year
11 June 2022
So far no game has topped this, other than half life alyx. But to be fair that is a VR flagship game and elden ring is not a VR game. So i can confidently say that this game fulfills the player's desires as if the game designers knew EXACTLY what the player wants throughout the gameplay. This is one of the rare instances in which one can and should use the 'masterpiece' term to describe this game.

One of the worst movies i've ever watched
6 June 2022
This movie would be considered good for either someone who has a massive crush on elsa pataky or a north korean who acquired by this movie by smuggling. I'm sorry, it is that bad. Extremely predictable and boring plot. Horrible acting and horrible script. You can skip 90% of the movie and you wouldn't miss any important details. "Hey, at least it's a cool female protagonist".

Definitely a failure and i can see why they put this on netflix.

Generic zombie flick
23 May 2022
There's not much to it. Pretty simple story, relatively short, and little character depth. The viewer is given only a bit of significant information, so they are not completely clueless, but other than that, an experienced viewer can easily tell from the first glance what type of character each one is.

The movie attempts to be unique by refraining from killing, but resorts to the same as a consequence afterwards, which isn't surprising and in fact has the opposite effect (ordinary).

It is still not a bad movie. Yet I didn't feel anything while and after watching it, because I could easily tell who was certain to die and who was going to live way before the actions happened.

This is as predictable as zombie movies can get without being completely insipid and unoriginal. I thought about giving it a 6, but the characters, despite their lack of depth and development, are a nice sight together.

All of Us Are Dead (2022– )

Many episodes are a repeat
20 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Some Spoilers

The series is overall very entertaining and tense but the script writers went the cheap way like many zombie related films. The first few episodes are fantastic and, i genuinely say this, a must watch for any fan of this genre.

The rest, however, is not as perfect. The show is still entertaining and worth it, yes, but it suffers from the excessive plot armor syndrome present in many zombie-related works.

The show tries to alleviate this feeling of "cheapness" by killing off some developed characters but it's still irritating to see the same character keep coming back and back just because the plot of the high-school group would be a bit too predictable without them. What this leads to is a predictable sequence of events, but unpredictable character deaths (except for 2).

The acting is as believable as it is enjoyable and there's only a little amount of wooden characters (which is a really good aspect of in show.)

It's pretty safe to say that the target audience is a group of high schoolers because the constant emotional drama (that seem to be not very important and just there) between the characters might bore the average viewer.

This is a modern and entertaining addition to the genre and worth binging for those itching for more zombie action. I was going to give it a 7/10, but the intro riff is so good, I bumped it up to a righteous 8/10.

This movie suffers from plot armor on a zombie syndrome
31 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Don is always at very convenient spots to make sure the movie doesn't get boring. He also for some reason knows that the butt of a rifle is more destructive than his fists. Seems like he wants to assassinate the main characters and stay away from the horde whereas all the other zombies do typical zombie things. Also, despite being a civilian, he somehow has access to the place where Alice is. Speaking of Alice, it's impressive no infected found her and she didn't starve to death all that time. Regardless, Don is not a zombie, not a human, but a device that keeps pumping out content for the film whenever it needs cheap content.

It feels like this whole movie would've been a 15-minute movie if it was not for Don's special plot, and that makes the film underwhelming. You can take a guess on when Don is going to conveniently appear again, and it would likely be correct. I got really bored in the middle of the film, because it was simply bland and too predictable from that point on. Sending hordes of zombies to be slaughtered gets old. The main characters were pretty good though.

Turn brain off
1 January 2022
The movie asks you to not think. You have to deactivate the logic and thinking part in order to indulge. If you do indulge, it's pretty entertaining and worth watching especially if you're part of the target audience. However, even then, there are still many moments when one can't resist cringing. Especially near the end. Daniel Radcliffe's crackhead look and the short runtime saves the movie.

cool movie
2 November 2021
Mediocre and not much investment in the characters. Cast is fantastic. Though, it is the realism that really makes the movie, for the terrifyingly accurate predictions of covid time. Also, seeing the characters without masks (early on) feels so unnatural because methinks they would wear masks just in case.

Overall enjoyable movie but don't expect a masterpiece.

Solid waste of time.
6 August 2021
It's very simple. The film begins slowly and starts to ramp up fast about 30 minutes in. You can very quickly understand how the plot is going to unfold and what each character is.

I don't think it's worth watching unless you have nothing else to do. Regardless, it is not terrible.

If you are a genre fan then it is a movie worth watching when you have nothing else to do. The premise is ok, beyond that don't take it too seriously.
