Monster (2018)
Monster
Watching this film was a rollercoaster of emotions.
The character of Steve made me feel empathy in ways I hadn't felt for many other movie characters before.
He is an ordinary boy from the block you see every day, with his own hopes, dreams, and life. He feels real; something a lot of film protagonists do not manage to achieve.
The longer the movie progresses, the more clear it becomes just how hopeless Steve's situation really is. To the jury, he's nothing more than "just another young black guy in court"
The cinematography was suberp. From the warm, inviting streets of NY to the bright and sickly lights of the courtroom. I feel like the music was placed on perfect moments; the film knew when it had to be quiet.
Bloodshot (2020)
A pretty regular enjoyable film.
The story is quite basic, the characters are what you would expect them to be and they perfectly deliver what they are supposed to deliver.
What stood out most for me in this film was the colouring of the shots at times. It used very vivid and light colors, which worked amazingly with some of the darker borders and backgrounds.
Overall a movie you should definitely pick up if you're not into deep storytelling or emotional scenes, but more a fan of action, heroic stories, etc. etc.
