One Piece: Wan pîsu: The Ridiculous Power! GEAR 5 in Full Play (2023)
Good animation, immature concept
Been a long time One Piece watcher and long time reader. After reading the manga I understand the themes and purpose behind Gear 5 and I appreciate the creativity and concept. It's been in the making for awhile and the foreshadowing in the anime and the manga is what I like the most... However, the execution in the anime is unfortunately making me lose some interest. I get it, Luffy is free and his fighting is only limited by his imagination and Luffy has always been a little goof and I do like that about his character. I just do not like the over the top immature cartoony gimmick when it comes to the fighting. I don't know if it's because I'm getting older and I could have outgrown One Piece. It doesn't have to be a serious fight but the point has been made... Luffy is free and can fight how he wants but this has turned into a legitimate little kid cartoon. The animation is really cool and One Piece still has the best world building in anime but if Luffy is going to be fighting like an annoying cartoon character from here on out, might be time to walk away and hang it up and leave it to the little kids. Anyway.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
Fan fiction movie
It's a decent movie in regards to production and showing chemistry between the four turtle brothers but it's not accurate to the source material at all. There's a lot of different interpretations of TMNT but they all stay within the realm of the original source material but this movie takes it a little further to the point where you can't really call this a TMNT film. My biggest qualm is that the turtle brothers don't see Splinter as a sensei but just a dad. How they become ninjas doesn't really make sense and it's not too believable that they're actually ninjas. Outside of that it was a decent film. Good music, good colors, good animation, but not a TMNT film.
