Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Nice cinematography, Unenjoyable plot.
This film is interesting, it's very introspective and you know, cute.
The main character has a refreshing personality and I found the narrator's dialogue to be unique.
But I have to say the film overall was unsatisfying. The relationship between Amelie and the love interest was just silly and frustrating to watch and there were some things that were unresolved i.e. Amelie's relationship with her father, the fake letter to Madeleine, etc... It seemed like the film placed a lot of importance on these things at the start only to be discarded pretty much as soon as Amelie gets with Nino. A contradictory to her self-less personality but I dont know. The story is forgettable and the lessons that it is trying to teach is a bit iffy. Overall it portrays good morale but here and there Amelie's way of helping others begins to step into a morally questionable cateogory and its a little bit unsavoury.
Great acting, cinematography and soundtrack but plot was forgettable.

sometimes you need to lay off the imagery
The way the scenes cut and dialogue went left me very confused.
The director failed to show how the relationship between the main characters even develops at the beginning, you just kind of have to fool yourself that you understand what's going on and hope that it makes sense later. It doesn't really make sense even at the end.
The dialogue is cheesy and I don't really get why the director made them chase each other frequently, I guess to portray some 'youthfulness' but it was just silly to be honest.
There are also odd uses of close ups and far away shots that feel like they drag for a bit too long. I admit, it was quite refreshing at times but it did get boring after a while. The story gets unrealistic and was very frustrating to watch. However, I loved the acting, especially Nana Komatsu. If it wasn't for her performance, I would've even have finished it.
