The Warrior Queen of Jhansi (2019)
Swords And Sceptres
I saw this movie Saturday, Nov 16. I really enjoyed it. The costumes were outstanding, it was very colourful. I thought the acting was great. You got a very good idea of the social philosophies in the mindsets of the Indians and the British. I can see that the directors and producers really put their hearts into this project.
One more thing; Cyanne Productions gave us really goof feedback ln their blogs regarding this movie. That is the first time ever I heard back on my ideas or comments from a movie company.
Add. I see a few nasty comments by some Indian folks on here. You know, I saw a movie last January called Thugs of Hindustan, mind you a fantasy movie. There is one scene about deceit and betrayal where one of the characters who was being stabbed in the back says the worst enemy of an Indian is another Indian. I see he was not far off the mark. 😉
I have seen all movies about this Queen starting with the 1953 version and including the TV series. I think this one is best so far. The director and her cast did a great job and like it or not the Brits though greedy, unjust and cruel at times, were no stupid fools as other shows wanted to demonstrate.
Witchfinder General (1968)
Witchfinder general should arouse interest in history.
Hi everyone, I missed the movie when I was a young teen and finally saw it on sat TV 3 years ago. I had a very trying time finding a copy for my collection but eventually got one through Amazon.
I appreciate it better seeing it later in life since I was educated about the history and politics of Cromwell's England well after the movie was made. I enjoyed the acting, suspense, settings and nice musical score. Other friends of mine from Latin America have seen the movie and just loved it, asking many questions about those times in England.
I know this and other historical movies contain quite a few factual errors at times but I always remind people that historical movies always encouraged me and others to get a spark of interest and go hit the books to see how real the movie portrayed the events and characters. Hollywood and the British film industry have done the world a great service over the last hundred years in this regard. Because of the movie, Cromwell with Richard Harris and the Witchfinder General, I developed an interest in 17th century and have bought several history books on this era for reading in my spare time.
It is tragic the director died young; try and imagine what kinds of great films he would be turning out today! Regards, Michael Kelly
