Truly captures the Spirit!!! Just watch it NOW!!!

Seamless, personal, brilliant acting, directing, and production...written with the Rasta Spirit at its Heart.

It is honest, and doesn't shy away from the man, and the legend.

Rita is brilliant, this one really shows their Love, their struggles, their strength...together.

I loved the real Jamaican accents, and talk, even though I couldn't understand it all in one sitting, I could still feel every word!

If you know nothing about Rastafarianism...this movie will help introduce you. If you know nothing about Reggae and music recording, this movie will bring you in.

Do your Soul a favour, and enjoy!

A Wonderful mini-series chapter of the silver screen lady-legends!
18 March 2024
2017 series: Certainly give it a chance until at least the third episode...it gets better and better, as do ALL the performances!

Great production value, very nicely written, and dynamic directing (if you ignore the many axis-crossing moments...which i could not, being a filmmaker myself.) otherwise stellar directing...The performances are second to none...the casting is perfect, Sarandon and Lange are an absolute pleasure to watch, especially Lange, who delivers a mind-numbingly brilliant performance!

With all the mediocre crap out here in the streaming world, do yourself a favour and watch this well-crafted and delightful piece of entertainment/history!

The subject matter is so very sensitive and tragic but this film is a perfect testament of the power of art and true story-telling.

I really cannot say enough about how beautiful this movie is. Words really fail...and, for me, that is saying a lot.

The script is perfectly crafted...and I know a good script when i see one...this one is perfect.

The directing is astounding.

The cinematography stunning.

The editing is spot on.

The cgi is epic.

The sound and production design is second to none.

If you have lost a loved one...see this film now.

If you haven't lost a loved one...see this film now.

If you love great story-telling, and that of it's power to heal the mind...

See This Film Now.

(nothing more need be said)

Had to rate this after seeing so many bogus high ratings...
30 May 2022
The Directing and Writing are amateur at best...if that was taken care of and done well...this would be a workable tv series with any other flaws easy to look past...but when you get the writing and directing so bad and stilted and vision-less...it takes the whole ship down. Stop it Disney...sad.

Moon Knight (2022)

Watch it if you have time to kill...do not expect much from it though.

The show had promise, a cool concept, and very interesting location/history/avatars-heroes in it. Cool concepts do not necessarily translate into Vision...that has to come from the writing/directing and of course the production side of things...lack of vision, pressure from the suits killed this cool concept.

PEOPLE!!! PLEASE dont blame the actors...each one does a great job in there own right and are quit capable...its the directing. It was lacking in vision.

And the writing was lacking in coherence and purpose...that it. But of course without Vision and Purpose what is anything?

Thats what we got...lots of words, and movements, and sounds, attempting to deliver something, but not entirely sure what that something is or should be.

At least we got to see Mark and Stephen (moon knight) develop somewhat...because for anything to be well received, we need to see the characters journey...but that journey will still fall flat without Vision and Purpose. (oh and a free(ish) hand from the suits)

WOW! This is a perfect example of masterful writing with near perfect directing. The Actors, especially, Mark Rylance (award worthy performance by the way), are all superb. You know something is masterfully crafted when it holds your attention completely throughout, and without needing any major sets, action, or cgi...just seriously great storytelling and then carried through by all the key parties. For those that LOVE story...this is for you.

Val (I) (2021)

How can one not give a film like this 10 stars? what is the measure?: honesty? intimacy? creative weaving of ones life and musings...Val has it all.

(no Spoilers here) Val: an autobiographical and up-close and personal film about the life and acting/artistry of Val Kilmer...mostly filmed by him and/or his loved ones through the years...how can one not give a film like this 10 stars? What is the measure?: honesty? Intimacy? Creative weaving of ones life and musings...Val has it all. A beautiful deep-ish dive into the life-family-acting-artistry of Val Kilmer.

I was transported backwards into my youth, with many of his biggest films being somewhat big milestone eras of my teen years...Batman, The Doors, Topgun, Willow, and the silly and beautiful Top Secret...but what really impressed me the most was his real life silly nature! I mean you could see it in the old home movies with his brothers, but with kids, that is to be expected to some degree, carefree and silly. As an older, life-experienced adult we see Val as a consummate silly person, a natural clown. This is the most revealing aspect of the actor-man for myself...a natural born clown as well.

(almost a spoiler)...and just wait till you see/hear his (possible) magnum opus...re: Mark Twain...!!! (thats all I will say...)

Like I say, a must see for, well, anyone...artist, or not...this is a humanizing film, a touching film, and a very very creative film to watch...do yourself the FAVOUR ! (ya im canadian...eh)...and watch this movie :)

Think David Lynch, meets Spinal Tap, meets 'Eraser Head'...Very entertaining on all fronts!

'The Nowhere Inn': (No Spoilers here!)

Think David Lynch, meets Spinal Tap, meets 'Eraser Head'...Very entertaining on all fronts: Musically, Visually, Storytelling, Editing, and Fun-tense character arcs...very creative!

I didn't expect much, I didn't know much about it before watching, and I even hesitated to watch it because i didn't want to hate it since I really like St. Vincent...But I was surprised!

Well written, very well acted, lots of creative use in the editing that rides the line of 'too much' but never seems to cross it. The story is clear, so I didn't have to work to stay with it: Expectations meet Reality...Glamour meets Simplicity...Trust meets Freedom...Friendship meets Challenge and Sanity meets Unravelling. These are some of the wonderful conflicts and resolutions in the film.

I was entertained throughout and yes, I definitely felt that i got to know St. Vincent - Annie Clark (and Carrie Brownstein!) a little better...well done!

I cannot find a flaw with the 'Storytelling Aspect'...not one. It gets a 10.
21 March 2021
Utterly Brilliant! I study film, i make films, iam a passionate story teller...and let me tell you this film is nearly flawless...in fact none come to mind, though there must be some. lol

***There are zero spoilers in this review :)

The film is quite possibly the most subtle and diverse character study of 'conflict' that i have ever watched. The film Braveheart was brilliant and deserving of all its rewards, but its narrative arc and focus are much more wide in scope than this film. In contrast Blood on the Crown, is a beautifully nuanced look at the age-old empire vs rebellion story, completely dedicated to the characters' journey, and to my delight, both sides are equally represented in this regard.

The angry: hawks, simpletons, and youth of each side is well represented. The compassionate and more reasoned characters of the empire/rebellion, are both finely tuned and developed.

It depicts a very 'real' world. Each type of character with their flaws, and we see their struggles, and we understand their motives through many character development and story techniques.

I am in awe.

And notice how i haven't said anything about the Directing, Acting, Cinematography, Editing, Production design, Music etc?

For me, and for stories in general, character development and journey is primary...crucial to any great storytelling.

Having said that...All of the above-mentioned key positions in film-making, are without a trace of doubt...MASTERFUL!

I was literally blown away by the subtle and nuanced choices the Director/editor made to tell this story!

This story could have been about anywhere, and anytime...it is the classic story of human conflict that spans recorded history, and is still equally present or relevant today. The choice to make a film set in Malta, with its beauty and rich history, and the fact that Malta's example sparked future rebellions in other colonized countries, was the perfect choice.

Respect to Malta, respect to all the players who helped to make this masterwork of storytelling. It brought me to tears...not because of the troubling and painful history being depicted, but for the sheer power and illumination that great storytelling can, and in the case of 'Blood on the Crown'...absolutely, does possess.

A must see... A must feel... Simply a must.

P.s. through the entire film i was wondering how I knew, but couldn't remember, who one of the actors was...until i saw the credits...Mr. Keitel...your back baby!!!
